Archive for October, 2010

still remember when I first discovered N.E.R.D. way back in middle school when I saw the music video for “She Wants to Move”. They are back this year with a new album called Nothing. One of the songs from the album is the newly released “Hypnotize U”. It features production from the legends known as Daft Punk. You may have heard of them.

“Hypnotize U” is a smooth soul inspired song that floats near r&b territory. This is something different from what I’ve been listening to as of late, so it’s somewhat refreshing.

The band first performed it last week on Letterman, and now the studio version is out there for our enjoyment.

Watch the performance right after you check out the mp3:

Kanye’s Announces New Album Title

By Will, October 5th 2010

Kanye has finally finalized the details of his highly anticipated new album. Today on twitter he announced his new album is called My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It will come out November 22nd, and will even feature some of the songs that he has released for G.O.O.D. Friday.

All Of The Lights is still the next single.

Can’t wait to hear this bad boy.

Weezer are bringing the real rock back to NYC. On December 17th they will play the ever so classic Blue Album in full. Then on December 18th they will do the same for Pinkerton. Both epic nights will be held at Roseland Ballroom.

I can’t believe this is happening. It falls right after final exams too, so I will be able to make both nights. I have yet to see Weezer live, so this is going to be a pretty special way to do so.

Tickets will go on AMEX presale on Saturday 10/9 at 10AM. General sale begins one week later.

I better see all of my new yorkers out there!

[new] Avery Tare – Lucky 1

By Will, October 4th 2010

We finally have our first taste of Avery Tare’s debut solo album Down There. The Animal Collective member has made his first single “Lucky 1″, available for free download.

“Lucky 1″ is a murky vision of Avery Tare’s underwater imagination, expanding all the sonic explorations previously heard from Animal Collective. It does have some traces of Animal Collective, and that was expected. “Lucky 1″ favors the Avery inspired side of Animal Collective, and it’s one that is probably going to make a damn good solo album.

Down There is out on October 26th via Animal Collective label Paw Tracks.

Kanye made a triumphant visit to SNL last night, bringing on “Power” (with a new verse, and without the SNL bit), and “Runaway”. He was on fire, and delivered quite a performance.

[mp3] Hesta Prynn – Can We Go Wrong

By Will, October 3rd 2010 — with 5 comments

I just recently really got into Hesta Prynn’s Can We Go Wrong EP. It’s a firey EP full of dance ready electronic based pop. Think of her as the white Santigold.

One of my favorite jams is the title track of the EP. It’s jittery funk-tastic jam with crisp guitar hooks and big beats. It’s throws together all the best sounds to create a massive track. This one should be a dance party essential.

It’s only a matter of time till Hesta Prynn spreads like wild fire.

Stay tuned for more Hesta Prynn. I got something special coming in a few days.

Christian Dior Denim Flow - Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, John Legend, Lloyd Banks & Ryan Leslie

I didn’t expect to see a new G.O.O.D. Friday song this week considering two songs from Kanye’s album were leaked, and he even said there would be none. Well, he actually came through despite everything that he said. Truly shows that Kanye really has a love for music and will do anything for it. He loves his fans, and it’s pretty evident. It’s not Friday, but who the hell is going to complain?

His latest G.O.O.D. Friday song is called “Christian Dior Denim Flow”. It features Kid Cudi, Pusha T, John Legend, Lloyd Banks & Ryan Leslie. It has a Kanye/Cudi like chorus that fans of both will enjoy. It’s nearly 7 minutes, but you won’t be checking your watch.

Grab it below via Kanye:

Scala & Kolacny Brothers – Creep (Radiohead Cover)

By Will, October 1st 2010 — with 4 comments

http://www.disneydreaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/The-Social-Network-Movie-Poster.jpg

I saw The Social Network at a midnight screening last night, and let me just start by saying, go see it right now. It may just be the best film of 2010. It was damn good. It’s a movie for our generation, about our generation. Great script, great acting, great direction. I loved it.

A lot of people have been asking about the child choir cover of “Creep” from the trailer, and rightfully so. It’s a fantastic cover. It comes from Scala & Kolacny Brothers, a Belgian women’s choir headed by conductor Stijn Kolacny and pianist Steven Kolacny. The cover comes from their cover album On the Rocks, which came out in 2002.

It does what a great cover should: Gives a song a completely new sound, bringing creativity to the forefront. Truly making a great song even greater.

Download it below:

Update: Apparently the cover has gotten Scala & Kolacny a U.S. deal with Rhino Entertainment imprint ATCO Records. So they have found their American market. Found this via Billboard.
