Win Tickets To See Badly Drawn Boy @ Le Poisson Rouge

By Will, November 30th 2010 — with 3 comments

Badly Drawn Boy is playing in @ Le Poisson Rouge in NYC on December 3rd. I got a pair of tickets to give away to one of you guys. These tickets are running at $30, so this is a great deal.

To win, leave a comment below with your top 3 favorite bands of all time. I’ll pick one at random, but I’m just curious to see your picks. Good luck!

You can still buy tickets to the show otherwise.

Ravens & Chimes have a bright future ahead of them. If you haven’t heard their new song, “Division St.”, you’re truly missing out.

Tonight at 10pm they are doing a live interview/acoustic performance with David Greenwald of the great Rawkblog. Asher from the band, says that they will even be playing some new songs. Hopefully they play “Carousel”, a fantastic song that they played when I saw them at Bowery Ballroom this summer.

You can watch the video now, right here.

Donovan Woods’ “Lawren Harris” is truly a magical tune. I don’t know how he isn’t a bigger artist yet. The power of “Lawren Harris” alone should be enough to propel this man to huge fame and glory. If you need a refresher, here’s the post I did on it.

I just came across this breathtaking version he did for Southern Souls. He sings it live at an empty theater, giving his voice the necessary space to haunt and grow. If this doesn’t convince you that this song is one of the best of 2010, than I give up.

Bright Eyes Announces New Album: The People’s Key

By Will, November 30th 2010 — with 2 comments

Bright Eyes will release their new album, The People’s Key on February 15th, 2011, via Saddle Creek. It’s their 7th studio album, and the first since 2007′s Cassadaga. It’s been a while since we’ve heard any new Bright Eyes, so you can imagine his fans are ecstatic about this news. The People’s Key was recorded in Omaha, Nebraska, at the band’s own ARC Studios. The band’s very own Mike Mogis produced it.

The band has also announced a show at Radio City Music Hall on March 9th. Tickets will go on sale this Saturday at 10am.

[music video] Little Comets – Joanna

By Will, November 30th 2010

I told you that I’d have more about Little Comets. They have just released the music video for their new single “Joanna”, which comes out on January 17th. It’s the 2nd single taken off their debut album In Search Of Elusive Little Comets, which comes out on January 31st, 2011 via Dirty Hit Ltd.

“Joanna” is a stunning single. This is some of the freshest British indie that I’ve heard in ages. “Joanna” is bound to capture the heart and soul of many. It’s sweeping chorus will be stuck in your head in no time. I’m hooked on Little Comets right now.

They are surely a band to watch in 2011. Their debut album is now one of my most anticipated. Thankfully we don’t have to wait too long.

Watch the music video, below;

The band has made an alternative version of the song available for free download. It’s called “Joannacapella”, and you can download it below:

Win Tickets To See Chief @ Bowery Ballroom On December 7th

By Will, November 29th 2010 — with 12 comments

Chief are one of the coolest new bands around in my opinion. One could say they are modestly filling the void that Fleet Foxes have left. Their debut album Modern Rituals, is one that you shouldn’t be without.

Chief are coming to NYC to play at Bowery Ballroom on December 7th, and you can win a pair of tickets to go. Domino is also offering a copy of Modern Rituals on CD to the same winner. All you got to do to enter is leave a comment telling me your favorite blog, other than this one (of course). Explain why. Best explanation as to why your pick is your favorite, wins.

Leave a comment before December 6th to be officially entered. Good luck!

New Details on The Strokes 4th Album

By Will, November 29th 2010 — with 2 comments

The Strokes News has just posted an update about The Strokes new album. In an interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., said that LP #4 is complete & awaiting mixing. The album was recorded at Alberts upstate studio for the last six months. Here’s what Albert said about the end result:

“We are beyond thrilled with the 10 songs we have for this record. We cannot wait for everyone to hear it. I’m positive that you’ll be as excited as we are.”

According to TSN, the sessions from Avatar (remember that video from last year?) have been scratched, and it looks like the album consists of all the material they recorded at Albert’s place.

I have a feeling this album is going to be quite good. I for one, like the fact that it’s only 10 songs. Less chance for filler. Also, let’s hope a NYC date is announced sooner or later as well. It’s long overdue at this point.

[Listen] Iron & Wine – Walking Far From Home

By Will, November 29th 2010 — with 13 comments

“Walking Far From Home” is the new single from successful folk act Iron & Wine. It was released as an exclusive Black Friday single and it leaked, to no ones surprise.

Similar to Sufjan, Sam Beam has reshaped his folk-rock sound. Sam is a fantastic songwriter, and he doesn’t stray too far from his sound. The electronic effects that he adds creates a dreamy atmosphere that will take you away from your world, leading your straight into his. I personally don’t think he departs too far from his old sound, but some fans may not know what to think of the change at first.

“Walking Far From Home” will be on Iron & Wine’s new album Kiss Each Other Clean, which is set for a release on January 25th via Warner Brothers. The 7″ includes two exclusive songs, “Summer In Savannah” & “Biting Your Tail”. It’s available to purchase from Amazon on November 30th.

[music video] Little Comets – Isles (+ “Orchestral” Version)

By Will, November 28th 2010 — with 2 comments

I had seen the name Little Comets floating around blogs and British websites this year, but never did check them out. I finally gave their new single “Isles” a listen, and am enjoying it a great deal. It has a real British sound to it. Some British bands come off the wrong way, almost sounding forced fed for the NME. That’s certainly not the case with Little Comets. You get a sense of their hometown pride in “Isles”, and it plays off well. I don’t live in the UK but you can tell that the band is aware of what is going on in their homeland. The band had smart lyrics, something that will never go out of style.

“Isles” will be taken off their debut album In Search Of Elusive Little Comets, which will be released on January 31st, 2011 via Dirty Hit Ltd.

Check out the music video for “Isles”, below:
