[video] The Morning Benders – Dreams (Live @ Webster Hall 11/18/2010)

By Will, November 19th 2010 — with 1 comment

It pains me that I had to miss the morning benders in nyc last night, but that’s a part of life. Thankfully, someone uploaded a clip of them covering Fleetwood’s Mac’s classic “Dreams”. It’s becoming a near staple of their live shows, and there’s good reason. The benders have given it a refreshing makeover. They were also joined my Twin Sister’s Andrea Estella who contributed some vocals.

Catch the cover below, via Stereogum:

[music video] Klaxons – Twin Flames (NSFW)

By Will, November 19th 2010

Klaxons have released a music video for “Twin Flames”, my favorite song of their new album, Surfing The Void. The NSFW music video, directed by Saam Farahmand, is creepy and bizarre. Lots of going on, and 95% of it is somewhat weird.

There’s some nudity so if you’re at work or whatever, don’t watch. The video is posted at NME.

[video] The Vaccines – Post Break Up Sex (New Song)

By Will, November 19th 2010 — with 2 comments

There’s a new clip of The Vaccines playing a new song called “Post Break Up Sex”. It was recorded from their show at York Stereo on 11/11. This song is further proof at why these guys are my favorite new upcoming act. They have a great sound live, and it shows on this pristine recording that could probably pass as a studio recording.

I’m excited to see these guys in January. I hope you all join me so we can sing along to this:

Bob Dylan @ Binghamton University (11/17/2010)

By Will, November 19th 2010 — with 1 comment

I’m not as knowledgeable about Bob Dylan as I should be, I admit that. Although, I would call myself a pretty casual fan. I’ve been meaning to dive into his (intimidating) catalog, but I haven’t found the timeĀ  (shame on me, I know). When I found out that he was coming to play at my school, how could I possibly not go?

I went into the show knowing that his voice was pretty rough these days. It was hard to accept at first, but I soon got used to it and was able to work around it. His band was incredibly tight, and the Dylan quality songs obviously shined through. It was the first time I’ve ever seen a crowd so mixed with young kids and much older adults. It was quite a site.

Dylan played a great mix of songs from his albums that should have left everyone in attendance, pleased in some way. He ended his set with the only song he could: Like A Rolling Stone. Now I can tell my grand kids that I heard it.

Not a bad way to spend a Thursday night in Binghamton.

Setlist (via):

Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking
The Man In Me
Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again
I Don’t Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met)
The Levee’s Gonna Break
Spirit On The Water
Honest With Me
Desolation Row
Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum
Blind Willie McTell
Highway 61 Revisited
Love Sick
Thunder On The Mountain
Ballad Of A Thin Man

Encore:
Jolene
Like A Rolling Stone

The Morning Benders gem “Excuses” is still the likely winner of being crowned as my favorite song of 2010. There’s no denying its greatness. It’s been remixed and covered a handful of times, and months later fresh remixes are still pumping out. The Golden Filter took their turn at remixing it, and the result is a tight electronic remix that shows the song in a new light.

Grab that below:

Their tour-mates, Twin Sister also released a remix of “Mason Jar”. They’re calling it a remix, but this is more of a of a cover than anything.

The Strokes New Album Is Finished

By Will, November 18th 2010 — with 2 comments

As The Guardian reports, The Strokes 4th LP is finished. When a fan asked Julian about the status of the album on twitter, Julian responded with the following:

Still not going to be out for a few months-mixing, etc, but JUST finally finished it yesterday actually!?

Then bassist Nikolai Fraiture confirmed that the album is complete with his own tweet:

YES! It’s true. Strokes IV is DONE!! Let’s go party…

The albums headed towards a likely March 2011 release. It’s the most collaborative effort from the NYC rockers yet.

Call me excited to hear what LP4 brings. Thank you to Jess for the tip.

Introducing: Oh Stereo

By Will, November 17th 2010 — with 1 comment

Meet Oh Stereo. They’re Scott Marquart and Mason Hickman, a duo from Nashville, Tennessee. They met after becoming roommates in college. They soon started making music together, retreating from guitars, and experimenting with electronics. The result is the delicious synth pop of Oh Stereo. They’re releasing their self titled debut album on December 2nd, and it will be available as a free down at their bandcamp.

“Waiting For The Sun”, the first single from the album is available for free download. It’s my first taste of this band, and I’m convinced Scott & Mason are onto something good. “Waiting For The Sun” is dipped with the finest layers of electronic happiness. With vibrant synths, and a chorus that will reel you in, their sound is probably easiest to identify with bands like Passion Pit. Don’t worry though, these guys have their own agenda, and it’s one that seems to be working.

For now, here’s “Waiting For The Sun”. Be sure to grab their debut album on December 2nd.

Cults Sign To Columbia

By Will, November 17th 2010 — with 3 comments

This weekend, We Listen For You reported that Cults may have signed with Columbia Records, and Pitchfork confirmed it on Monday. So Cults, the little indie band that could, have signed a big league deal with major record label Columbia.

I’m glad for them, but I’m just worried that this is too soon. The band only have a handful of songs under their belt. I just hope that they don’t crumble under the spotlight before they even have it. I guess we’ll find out next spring, when their debut LP comes out.

What do you guys think about this?
