[Watch] iamamwhoami – To Whom It May Concern (Concert)

By Will, November 16th 2010 — with 5 comments

Last night iamamiwhoami went through with their promise of a concert, titled “To Whom It May Concern”. It’s more so a big long music video with the “band” (Jonna Lee and friends). It takes a while to get going with a 10 minute car ride starting the video. It takes us to a isolated forest area where the real concert experience begins. Slowly the songs from iamamiwhoami’s videos start playing and we get treated to her dancing/singing to them.

The songs really connected with me while watching this concert. Don’t know what did it, but these songs sounded super cool/chilling.

I take back my statements about me not caring anymore about this project. This whole experience just made up for it. This was the first really successful viral internet band/project and who knows what else may follow. This concert was extremely well made, and a pleasure to watch.

They took the concert down from the site, but it’s already on youtube. I found the video split into four parts. If you missed it, now is your chance to watch. Found them via iambounty. When the rest show up I’ll post them. Update: I found the rest of the videos, check them out:

The Beatles Come To iTunes

By Will, November 16th 2010

The big announcement from iTunes turned out to be that they finally got The Beatles on iTunes. After so many years of trying, a deal has finally been made.

At 2010, this announcement isn’t as important as it would have been, say, five years ago. We already got all their albums remastered last year. I don’t think any fans of The Beatles are really benefiting from this, not at this point. But the deal is made and for some this is a big breakthrough. It’s certainly cool to see them on iTunes, but many people are going to upset people are going to buy songs individually. As well all know, The Beatles really should be listened to through their albums as a whole.

The only real benefit I can think of is that younger kids who aren’t too familiar with The Beatles, but are strictly iTunes buyers, may discover the band on their own.

One cool thing I have noticed from the massive Beatles takeover on the iTunes Store is that there are some cool free features like mini documentaries and concerts, such as their February 11th, 1964 performance at The Washington Coliseum. Now, that’s cool.

Best Coast & Wavves – Got Something For You

By Will, November 16th 2010 — with 4 comments

Best Coast & Wavves are sort of an item together. They both like to smoke a lot of weed, and have had incredible success this year. Now they’re collaborating for an exclusive Christmas song that will be on a Target Christmas Collaboration album called The Christmas Gig.

Don’t hate, they gotta pay for their weed somehow. The song is called “Got Something For You” and it’s a cheery song with plenty of Christmas cheer. It sounds exactly like what a Best Coast/Wavves collaboration should.

Stream it over at Target.

[music video] Band Of Horses – Dilly

By Will, November 16th 2010 — with 2 comments

Band Of Horses have released a new music video for “Dilly”. Oddly enough, they’re giving the exclusive stream to IMDB. The music video is a bizarre one, coming off as a Tarintino short film.

Watch it at IMDB. Apparently this is the first time anything like this has been done via IMDB. Cool stuff.

Rogo has been telling me good things about Jay Electronica for a long time. It’s my fault for not listening sooner. However a lot more people are going to be paying attention to Jay now, as he has just been signed by Jay-Z to Jay-Z’s label, ROC Nation.

To celebrate, Jay released “Shiny Suit Theory”, a new song that features none other than the Hov himself. “Shiny Suit Theory” will be on Jay’s album, Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn). “Shiny Suit Theory” showcases Jay’s refreshing style of rap. It’s old school style where Jay takes great care and consideration with his lyrics. You know, the way it should be. His flow is also considerably chilled and relax, something that I really enjoy with rap.

Here’s “The Announcement” another new song that Jay Electronica released after signing to Roc Nation.

Remember Spoons new album Transference? Yes, it did come out this year. It’s early January release seems like ages ago now. There’s just so much music out there, stuff gets forgotten. That’s a damn shame though, cause Transference was a mighty fine record. One that is probably going to get overlooked with the best of 2010 lists. With songs like “Nobody Gets Me But You”, how could you not be swayed to include it?

The band released a new music video for “Nobody Gets Me But You”. The video is footage from the bands intimate performance at Cake Shop a little while back. It’s perfect. Watch it below:

Sports – Mind Has Changed

By Will, November 16th 2010

Sports continue their winning streak of excellent songs. The young band is making for themselves as one of the must watch acts of 2011. They’re no strangers to my blog. They just sent me a new song called “Mind Has Changed” and it’s another gem.

“Mind Has Changed” is a futuristic vision of emotion that captures your heart and soul. It’s a synth heavy track that can make you dance, but it will also extract emotions from you. Hold on tight, Sports are taking us for a ride.

Will you join them?

Unless you live under a rock, you probably know that Girl Talk released his new album All Day. The demand was so high, people were unable to download it. In other words, he broke the internet.

The album plays really well. Gregg Gillis a.k.a. Girl Talk has possibly made his best album yet, putting together some mind blowing mixes (you can see what songs he uses on the album, already). I don’t know how he does it.

Three tracks in particular have me hooked right now. “Jump On Stage” features Big Boi’s “Shutterbug”, Radiohead’s “Creep”, Skee-Lo’s “I Wish” and many more. “This Is The Remix” on the other hand features an incredible mix of Lil Jon’s “Get Low” blended with Simon and Garfunkel’s “Cecilia”. Also take notice of the great use of Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer”. In “On and On” the moment where U2′s “With Or Without” you blends with Twista’s “Wetter” in puts me in a good place

Grab all three below. Download the album here if you haven’t already.

[CMJ] GZA @ Brooklyn Bowl (10/23/2010)

By Will, November 16th 2010

Immediately after Kanye’s “surprise” appearance, GZA of The Wu-Tang Clan came on stage and performed “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and “Liquid Swords”. It was surely one way to keep the momentum going. I was blessed to see two rap legends in the course of 30 minutes. That’s CMJ for you.
