Cyhi Da Prynce was another guest on the Fool’s Gold Anniversary lineup, and he showed us why Kanye signed him. He’s got a lot of energy live and makes the most of the stage. Kanye knew what he was doing signing this guy. I am usually not too into rap shows, but Cyhi Da Prynce brought it. Excited to see what he aside from Kanye related tracks.

When a girl tried to pull him into the crowd, he said:

“I’d jump in with you, but I got too much money in my pocket.”

Arguable the best quote of CMJ.

After Cyhi got a little bit through “So Appalled”, Kanye made his way onto the stage. The rest, is history.

[CMJ] Donnis @ Brooklyn Bowl (10/23/2010)

By Will, November 16th 2010

Donnis is an upcoming rapper from Atlanta Georgia who played at Fools Gold’s Anniversary Party as well. I just happened to read a magazine article about him a few days prior to the performance. I was pretty impressed with a few of his songs. Definitely has potential to get big soon. A lot of radio friends raps. Reminded me a little bit of T.I.

[CMJ] The Suzan @ Brooklyn Bowl (10/23/2010)

By Will, November 16th 2010

The Suzan are a girls fronted band from Japan who are signed to Fools Gold. Their sound was sugary pop that came off as gimmicky to me. Not my cup of tea. I did enjoy their fun cover of Miike Snow’s “Animal”, though. By this point I was impatient for Kanye (it was almost 1:30 a.m.), and didn’t want to sit through it. The crowd ate them up though, and I think they could see some moderate success here.

[CMJ] Glasser @ Fader Fort (10/23/2010)

By Will, November 16th 2010

I saw Glasser open up for Cut Copy earlier this summer, and to be honest, I wasn’t blown away. I now realize the outdoor setting probably isn’t the best way to enjoy her music. The more intimate indoor setting of Fader Fort did her wonders. Her set was deliciously eccentric and mysterious. Don’t know how to put her voice into words, but it’s powerfully different. There was a power failure towards the end, but she just finished things up acapella style. Classy.

[CMJ] Tanlines @ Fader Fort (10/23/2010)

By Will, November 16th 2010

Walked into Fader Fort for the last bit of Tanlines set. They had everyone dancing when they played the always incredible “Real Life”. I need to see these guys live again. They really bring a lot of fun energy to their sets.
