Edwyn Collins is the former singer/frontman of Orange Juice. He released his 7th album, Losing Sleep, this year. One of the albums singles, “Do It Again” just had a music video released. It features Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy from Franz Ferdinand. It’s no secret that Orange Juice probably influenced Franz Ferdinand, so the features are more than appropriate.
Loving both the single and the video. Watch it below:
Vampire Weekend stopped by BBC Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton’s show this morning. They performed a cover of UK Pop Star Cheryl Cole’s “Fight For This Love”.
Here was Ezra’s explanation for the bands “odd” selection:
One day we were in the car driving to the airport and we heard a song that reminded us of K-Ci & JoJo’s ‘All My Life’, which is a very important song for people our age. We were like, ‘This song is awesome.’
I actually can see the connection to “All My Life”. Nice one, guys. The cover itself is a ball of fun. The band has done a lot of touring for Contra, and I can imagine this is a good way to wine down. They even have a brass band backing them. Epic.
Grab an mp3 of the cover below, and stream the original, right after it:
The Rural Alberta Advantage have released their new song “Stamp” as a free mp3. It’s the first taste off their new albumDeparting. The band still maintain the sound found on their debut album, Hometowns, while also finding ways to advance it towards new heights.
I can’t wait to see what other treasures the band shares with us with Departing. Grab “Stamp” below:
“Colours” is a bright electronic track from Young Liars that will not leave your head for hours.
It’s quirky and different, which gives it a fresh aroma. At first it comes off as post-punk, but soon it soars into the glorious territory of electronic. When the two fuse together at the 3 minute mark, it’s a glorious thing.
If you haven’t made your best of 2010 lists yet, you may want to pencil “Colours” in.
Neon Indian took T. Rex’s “Children Of The Revolution” and gave it a blipped out electronic re-work. Don’t know how T. Rex die hards will feel about this cover, but I’m liking it a whole lot.
Young Empires are one the best young bands in my opinion. They only have a handful of demos released, but they are more than enough to prove that Young Empires are worthy of inclusion on any best new bands list.
They just sent me a new song called “The Earth Plates are Shifting”. Young Empires describe it as a “slow jam”, but there’s more to it then that. The layers and textures of smooth electronics are more than enough to sooth your soul. The song is controlled in its efforts to take you away from your problems, shifting them far away. These guys are releasing incredible demo, after incredible demo. Be sure to grab their others songs, here.
Grab the mp3 of “The Earth Plates are Shifting” below, straight from the band themselves.
Smith Westerns music video for “Weekends” features the guys having the perfect weekend. Junk food, partying, and hanging out. It’s good to be young and alive. and the music video for “Weekend” proves it. I can’t want to return home and do the same with my friends.
The band has also announced some tour dates, that will go along with the January 18th release date of their new album, Dye It Blonde. The band will be in NY for the release of the album, along with the day after .
