It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from The Rurual Alberta Advantage. Hometowns was a mighty fine debut, and now the band are ready to follow up. On March 1st they will release their new album, Departing, via Saddle Creek.
I really loved their debut album, so I can’t wait to see what they bring on album #2. Check out the tracklisting below:
Departing:
01 Two Lovers
02 The Breakup
03 Under the Knife
04 Muscle Relaxants
05 North Star
06 Stamp
07 Tornado ’87
08 Barnes’ Yard
09 Coldest Days
10 Good Night
The Babies is the duo of Cassie Ramone of Vivan Girls, and Kevin Morby of Woods. They have given us their song “Run Me Over” as a free download. It’s an uninspired slacker anthem that sounds like it’s taken straight out of a California garage. It’s the opener of their debut self titled album that comes out on February via Shrimper.
Jens Lekman played a show in L.A. a few days ago, and he debuted a new song about actress Kirsten Dunst. The song is about when Jens tried to find her during his time in Sweden for the Way Out West Festival. Kristen was apparently filming a movie at the time, and was rumored to be at the festival.
Neon Indian has a new music video out for his current single, “Mind, Drips”. It’s a trippy one alright. It was directed by Lars Larsen who used a new technology called LZX Visionary to make the video the way it is. Larsen and his partner Edward Leckie used the device to manipulate and create images in the same way a synthesizer would.
It perfectly suites the single. Watch it below, via IFC:
Miles Kane is best known as Alex Turner’s partner in crime in The Last Shadow Puppets. I’ve been a fan of his work for a while, enjoying what he released with The Rascals. We may not get another LSP album for a while, so Miles has decided to go solo. He is releasing his debut solo album (tentatively titled My Fantasy) next year, via Columbia Records.
He has played a few solo gigs, and has released one song from the album so far, called “Inhaler”. It’s a funky tune that sounds like a throw back to 70s-80s guitar rock. I’m even more impressed by the albums first single, “Come Closer” (due out on February 21st). They played the single live at RAK Studios last week, and I gotta tell you, it’s extraordinary.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t think his solo stuff would be this good, but it is. Miles can hold his own.
Stream “Inhaler” below, and watch the RAK Studio performance of “Come Closer” below.
Due to my unorganized planning, I totally missed out on Gobble Gobble’s many CMJ shows this year. I am really upset at myself, because I heard that their live show is out of this world. With incredibly unique offerings like “Lawn Knives”, I can see why people are (literally) going nuts for this band. It’s blipped out electronic fuzz laced with smart pop wits. Say what?
I still owe you guys my best of 2010 lists. You can bet “Lawn Knives” will be included.
The band has just made all of their material available for free download on their bandcamp. Be sure to follow them on Tumblr as well, they post lots of free songs and remixes of their own stuff.
“Buy Nothing Day” is the first taste from The Go! Team’s new album Rolling Blackouts. It’s a sunny/upbeat song that features Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast on vocals. It’s a great way to get us interested in the new album, due on January 31st via Memphis Industries.
Hercules And Love Affair are returning with a new album called Blue House on January 31st via new label Moshi Moshi. They just released “My House”, which is our first taste from the new record. It features vocals from up and comer Shaun Wright, who adds flair to the bands exciting disco revival.
I’m really enjoying this. Grab a free mp3 download via Moshi Moshia:
Young Galaxy’s upcoming new album, Shapeshifting, is one of my most anticipated of 2011. The shine of “Peripheral Visionaries” was enough to secure the album that spot.
Now we got another new song to enjoy. It’s the mesmerizing jam “Cover Your Tracks”. It’s a song that will make you move in your chair, while also giving off it’s fair share of blissful joy. It breathes and dances in the air, allowing you to become fully absorbed in it by the time it ends.
Dan Lissvik of Studio is responsible for the admirable production heard on these songs. The duo of him and Young Galaxy is not one to mess with. It’s early but I have a feeling Shapeshifting is going to be one of the more well applauded albums in 2011.
Don’t know anything about this King Koyote. No matter. He sent me a pretty cool psych/garage rock tune called “Balloon Song”. Reminds me a little of The Black Keys + Black Lips. Pretty cool stuff. The only info attached to the e-mail was that the song was produced by Boe Weaver.
