The Hundred In The Hands – Pigeons

By Will, December 3rd 2010

I’m enjoying The Hundred In The Hands self titled debut album. Lots of loveable electronic/post-punk jams that should be a lot of fun to see live. They’re hitting up The Studio @ Webster Hall next Thursday (December 9th). You can get tix here. The band hails from Brooklyn, so you all should so them some hometown love.

Here are two of my favorite cuts from the album:

You should also check out, Sleepwalkers, a great cut from their This Desert EP.

Crash Avenue Comp Series: For Andy Kotowicz

By Will, December 2nd 2010

This months Crash Avenue Comp Series is a special one. It’s somewhat Holiday themed, but there’s a lot more to it. It’s a way to benefit the Andy Kotowicz Family Foundation. Andy was an important member of the Sub Pop team. Sadly he died on October 24th due to severe injuries he suffered in a car accident. He left behind a wife and daughter, and the foundation is meant to help them get through this hard time.

All proceeds will go to the foundation. You can buy the album now, and you can name your own price. You can also donate via paypal.

The compilation is available to stream below:

[Listen] David Lynch – Good Day Today

By Will, December 2nd 2010 — with 3 comments

I’m surprised at how enjoyable David Lynch’s single “Good Day Today” is. For those of you who don’t know him, David Lynch is a pretty famous director, with movies like Eraserhead, Dune, and  Mulholland Dr. I had no idea he made music (away from his films), until I found his single “Good Day Today”, streaming at The Guardian. Lynch nails a mighty fine electronic pop song that sounds like what Crystal Castles would sound like if they had a good day.

I’m really enjoying this. Pleasant surprise. Check out his website for more. It’s available to buy on iTunes right now. It’s backed with a b-side called “I Know”.

[Watch/Listen] Booka Shade – Regenerate

By Will, December 2nd 2010 — with 1 comment

“Regenerate” is a great single from German electro-house duo, Booka Shade. It’s a wonderful 5 minutes of electronic bliss. I was playing the game Snake on facebook and it oddly goes along perfectly to the game. As weird as that sounds, give it a try.

It’s taken from their more recent album, More!. They just released a music video for it and you can watch that below.

If you switch the country preference of your Itunes Store to the United Kingdom, and search for British Sea Power’s new album, Valhalla Dancehall, you can listen to 30 second previews of each song on the album. It’s just enough to give us an idea of what the new offering will sound like. Clips that caught my attention are: “Who’s In Control”, “Luna”, “Cleaning Out The Rooms”, and album closer, “Heavy Water”.

Try this link to get to the the album on the UK’s iTunes Store. If that doesn’t work, you have to switch countries manually.

Check out the music video for the album’s lead single, “Living Is So Easy”:

John Legend & The Roots are certainly fans of Arcade Fire. They named their cover album after Arcade Fire’s concert closer, “Wake Up”. John Legend and The Roots oddly left the studio version out of the album, leaving us with only a video of them performing it live.

However, the studio verison has been out for a little bit now and it’s finally found it’s way to my computer. I’m really enjoying their take on it. It’s a different offering, but it maintains the strong spirit that the original graces our hearts with. I’m really feeling this right now.

Deakin Returns To Animal Collective

By Will, December 1st 2010

I’m a little bit backed up on the music news, but I’m playing catch up. Word is that Deakin is officially back in Animal Collective. I couldn’t be happier to hear that. I’m excited to hear his guitars in Animal Collective’s music once again.

When I saw him at CMJ I asked him about his solo material after his set, and he said he should have an EP or something of the like out sometime next year. So there’s that.

Animal Collective will be playing at Barcelona’s San Miguel Primavera Sound Festival and Minehead, England’s All Tomorrow’s Parties next year, and Pitchfork reports that Deakin will be playing with them. Don’t know if we will get any new material from the group just yet. Realistically, we will (hopefully) get Panda Bear’s Tomboy.

[mp3]: Destroyer – Chinatown

By Will, December 1st 2010

Destroyer, the Dan Bejar fronted band, (from The New Pornographers), is releasing a new album on January 25th called Kaputt. He’s offering up “Chinatown”, the fantastic lead off track from Kaputt for free download.

“Chinatown” may just be my favorite offering from Destroyer yet. It’s dreamy layers of sound are putting my mind at rest. The song is causing some childhood memories to re-surface. It’s giving me a nostalgic feel. I don’t know if that’s what Dan is going for, but its working for me.

Lovely piece.

Kaputt comes out on January 25th via Merge Records

[New] Coldplay – Christmas Lights

By Will, December 1st 2010 — with 2 comments

As we hit the first day of December, it’s time to get into the holiday spirit, right? Well we just got a new song from The Killers, and now Coldplay has dropped a Christmas song called “Christmas Lights”.

It’s reminiscent to the Parachutes era Coldplay sound that we first fell in love with. This is certainly one of the better Christmas song I’ve heard. Wonder if this reflects the direction that Coldplay is going to go to with their next LP…

Check out the music video below:

Buy the single on itunes if you’re really feeling the spirit.
