Today Black Bell Records released “Bowl Cut” the new digital single from DOM that features an assist on vocals from everyone favorite new buzz band, Cults. It’s a pitch perfect combination that sounds like candy to my ears. Lush vocals and tight melodies all around.
Posted above is the album art which features a baby picture of DOM, according to Pitchfork. It will be released as a 7″ vinyl on February 8th. Stream it below:
I won’t pretend to say that I’ve been listening to Broadcast for years. Truthfully, I just never got around to it. Even so, it still saddens me to hear that their singer Trish Keenan, passed away this morning after battling pneumonia. It’s always sad to see people go, but as a music blog I felt it was only right to honor her, even though I never listened to their music.
Below is the official statement from Warp, the bands label:
I am planning on checking out Broadcast today as a way to honor them. I’ve heard great things about them, and I’m sure they will be great. Maybe you can do the same.
Last night, Fleet Foxestweeted that their record is complete and mastered. They’ve been hard at work on the follow up to their debut album for some time now. The band has used twitter to give us thoughts about the process, and at times, they haven’t been all that upbeat.
Album #2 has been kept pretty quiet, so it’s going to be exciting to finally get new material. I’m sure that it’s going to be brilliant. All we have to do now is play the waiting game.
Talib Kweli is another rapper that I’ve been meaning to get into. The small amount of stuff I’ve heard from him is pretty great. This includes one of his newest songs, “I’m On One”. It’s taken from his new album Gutter Rainbows, which is due out on January 25th via Javotti Media/3D.
This is the type of rap that I can really get behind. It’s intelligent, smooth, and in control. I really got to get into more of his stuff. Any recommendations?
Doesn’t look like we are going to get new TV On The Radio anytime soon. However, we’ve been seeing/hearing scattered projects and contributions from it’s members. The latest is Tunde Adebimpe’s guest performance on Antipop Consortium member Beans’ new song, “Mellow You Out”. It’s taken from Beans’ solo album End It All, which comes out February 15 via Anticon.
This is my introduction to both Antipop Consortium & Beans. The song is pretty cool, and it’s worth it to hear Tunde Adebimpe at the end. I found it, via Pitchfork. Grab the song below:
In an interview with NMEColdplay’s Chris Martin said the band are still trying to make their masterpiece. He was quoted saying “”We still don’t think we’ve delivered our masterpiece, so we’re still trying to do it. As long as we feel like that and we’re hungry… that’s all that matters.”
I think that’s a very good attitude. Hopefully it results in a great album. At least they’re not saying they will make a masterpiece, as we so often hear from bands. NME also reports that two songs on the bands next album will be titled “Princess Of China” and “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall”.
I loved Viva La Vida. If they can find a way to up the anty once again, the new album is going to blow me away.
The Kills announced on their website that they have a new album out later this year. It’s called Blood Pressure, and will be released on April 5th, via Domino Records. Here’s the note that they left on their site with all the information. Check it out.
It was a cold bitter night when I was waiting outside of The Mercury Lounge last night. I wasn’t worried though. I knew that I was soon going to be warmed up by The Rural Alberta Advantage, and boy, was I ever.
Brooklyn natives Soft Landing opened the show at 7 p.m (Early, I know!). They had a unique sound that sounded like a mix of experimental rock and dance folk. I later found out the band consisted of Beirut members, Paul Collins & Perrin Cloutier. This made sense to me. It was a strong set that had the crowd bopping and swaying, all with a smile. They released their debut s/t album last year, and I definitely would recommend giving it a shot.
The Rural Alberta Advantage started with two cuts from Hometowns, and then they made us joyful when they revealed that they would play the first side of their new album Departing. I was floored with how incredible the new songs sounded. They weren’t too much of a departure from what we heard on Hometowns, and I’m perfectly fine with that. These songs were aggressive and full of energy and emotion, a lot due in part to drummer Paul Banwatt. Let me tell you, Paul can play the hell out of the drums. You couldn’t help but stare in awe as he rapidly tore through his drum set, wowing everyone in attendance.
The band did indeed play the new album from front to back, and let me tell you, it’s going to be quite an album. We are looking at one of the best albums of 2011. One song that really stood out to me was “Under The Knife”. I can only hope that it’s recorded version sounds as great.
The band weaved in some more cuts from Hometowns before embarking on side 2 of the album. They ended the show by taking their instruments into the crowd, singing a beautiful ballad called “Goodnight” to the side of the crowd on a couch. The band sang it to us, for us, and you felt like you were a part of something much bigger in spirit. It was a magical moment.
Keep an eye out for Departing. From what I heard, we are looking at a powerful album that’s every bit as rocking as it is emotionally gripping. The Rural Alberta Advantage are a band that you need to see live once. They bring a warm energy to their live shows that you can’t find anywhere else. I promise.
Here’s a great video of last nights performance of the aforementioned “Goodnight”:
