I’ve been beyond eager to hear the Strokes new single “Under Cover Of Darkness” ever since it’s 30 second clip premiered. The band premiered the song today, giving it away for free on their site.
I’ve had a few listens now, and it’s everything that I hoped it would be. It sounds like the band has effectively combined the best parts of all of their different sounds. It’s definitely sounding a lot more like their earlier days, which is something most Strokes fans will be happy to hear.
The guitars come blazin’ tuned to the perfect degree, with some pretty great riffs. Julian does some of his signature vocals tricks. There’s even vocal harmonies from some of the band (sounds like Albert) giving us something fresh.
This is quite a comeback single. Welcome back guys.

[...] Ok, I have listened to this new track that crashed the interwebz 3 times, and I am not mad about it. At the same time I was hoping to hear something a little more memorable or maybe not sound exactly like they did 4 years ago. Judge for yourself, check out “Under Cover Of Darkness.” [...]

i fully loved First Impressions of Earth (not to the extent of Is This It? and Room on Fire, but still), but I am more than stoked to hear them getting back to the old sound to some extent. Pure Fire!!
