Foo Fighters Announce New Album: Wasting Light

By Will, February 15th 2011 — with 1 comment

Just yesterday we got an official music video for Foo Fighers new song,  “White Limo”,  a song that was on their “untitled” new album. Well that album now has a title, and it’s called Wasting Light. It will be released April 12th via Roswell/RCA.

It will be the 7th album for the band. It was produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Alan Moulder. Recording took place in the garage of Grohl’s home in California’s San Fernando Valley. Apparently no computers/no software were used during recording, giving the songs a raw form that may remind fans of their earlier days.

You can watch live versions of the entire album right here. First single “Rope” will be available on March 1st.

Tracklisting is posted after the jump:

Death Cab For Cutie Announce New Album: Codes and Keys

By Will, February 15th 2011 — with 1 comment

Lots of new album announcements have been coming these last few days. Death Cab For Cutie felt left out of the loop, and announced that they will release new album, Codes and Keys, on May 31st via Atlantic Records.

During an interview with BBC Radio Host Zane Lowe, Death Cab’s guitarist Chris Walla said that “You Are a Tourist” is the likely first single. The band is experimenting with reverb and synths, which is certainly going to be interesting. Alan Moulder is mixing the album.

It’s good to hear that the band is experimenting with new stuff. We all know how well The Postal Service came out. So maybe this experimentation will be a breath of fresh air for the band.

I would think that we can expect a more upbeat album this time around. Don’t know what Ben could be sad about. Seriously. If you’re married to Zooey Deschanel, I don’t know how you can ever be sad….

Bonnaroo Announces 2011 Lineup

By Will, February 15th 2011

The Manchester, Tennessee music festival Bonnaroo has announced their lineup for the 2011 edition of the famed festival. It’s the 10th year of the festival. It will take place from June 9th-12th on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee.

The lineup has been announced, and it doesn’t disappoint. Eminem, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Lil Wayne, The Black Keys, Robert Plant, and The Decemberists are some of the major headliners. Then you got acts like Iron & Wine, Girl Talk, Florence & The Machine, Explosions In The Sky, Big Boi, Beirut, Ratatat, The Walkmen, Wavves, Best Coast, Wiz Khalifa, Smith Westerns and The Drums are some of the other artists playing the festival. It’s a very diverse and solid lineup, offering something for everyone.

I think I may actually make the trek this year. It’s worth it for The Strokes and Arcade Fire alone.

Here’s the Bonnaroo Lineup posted in full:

So who else is going? Tickets go on sale here, this Saturday at noon.

Tonight LCD Soundsystem stopped by The Colbert Report to give their last TV performance. James did a short interview with Colbert, and then the band ran through “I Can Change”. It was a great performance. Definitely a good sign off. It has to make you excited for their farewell shows.

By Will, February 14th 2011 — with 6 comments

Valentine’s Day isn’t exactly the best holiday for everyone. So I decided to throw together a little mixtape for all you guys out there who are cruising solo right now. To be honest, I’m really enjoying the single life at the moment, so I decided to give Valentine’s Day the middle finger. There may or may not be a cohesive bind to all these songs. These are songs that I have had an emotional attachment at one point or another. Figured it would be a good way to share my mood with ya’ll.

If you’re with me, grab this little mix. A big thank you to Camilo Bejarano for making that wonderful artwork that you see on top of this post.

[new] Foo Fighters – White Limo

By Will, February 14th 2011 — with 1 comment

A few days ago Foo Fighters played their new album in its entirety in Los Angeles. Consequence Of Sound has videos of all of them. I wasn’t even aware that these were around until I saw that Foo Fighters released a music video for one of the new songs, “White Limo”.

The posting of the new song/video was their Valentines Day gift to us. Dave’s heavy vocals caught me off guard. This sounds like they turned the clock a bit to their old days. Old fans of Foo Fighters are going to love this song. It’s really raw and a bit on the heavier side, a good mix for the Foo’s. The video has a perfect early 90s feel to it. Watch it below:

The still untitled new album is set to come out on April 12th via RCA Records. First single “Rope” will be released on February 23rd.

[mp3]: The Outdoors – Barricades

By Will, February 14th 2011

“Barricades” is a song from The Outdoors, a band hailing from Echo Park, California. They sent me their new self titled EP and I’m enjoying it a lot. (It’s available for free download via their bandcamp page). “Barricades” is the song that really caught my attention right from the get go. I haven’t stopped playing it ever since.

It’s an uplifting rock song that sounds pure and hopeful. It has a lot of breathing room so the listener can dive into the center and soak up all the beauty. It’s also pretty catchy. It’s got a lot going for it, as you can tell.

As nice of a song as they come. Enjoy:

The band has a Kickstarter Campaign going right now to help fund the release of the EP and a West Coast tour. If you like what you hear, and have change to spare, help them out right here.

Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino lent vocals for a anti-human trafficking video that MTV Exit made to raise awareness about the disturbing topic. The composition was scored by Black Iris, and received sound design from Brian Emrich.

MTV Exit made an animated video for the song, and it shows just how messed up the topic is. The song will be available to buy on iTunes tomorrow, with all proceeds going to the organization.

Girls Names – Seánce on a Wet Afternoon

By Will, February 14th 2011 — with 1 comment

Belfast three piece, Girls Names, is the latest signing to Slumberland Records. On April 26th they will release their debut album, Dead To Me.

“Seánce on a Wet Afternoon” is the album’s closing track, and it’s available to stream right now. It’s a good way to showcase the catchy rock that Girls Names bring to the table. The band has a dark/haunted sound that is very 80s. You can’t help but love that throbbing bassline.

This is a refreshing change of pace from what I have been listening to as late. I like this a lot. I think you will too. Stream it below:

By Will, February 14th 2011

As a Valentines gift, Yeasayer released a music video of single “I Remember”, along with a free EP that includes two remixes.

Watch the equally scenic/trippy/weird music video below. You can also download the EP using the same widget:

The band also announced a new tour. They will be playing at NYC’s Terminal 5 on June 18th. So for those of you who missed out on their free show (like me), this may be your chance to see them.
