Arcade Fire Perform KROQ Session

By Will, February 11th 2011 — with 7 comments

Yesterday Arcade Fire jammed into KROQ’s tiny Studio R to play a short acoustic set for the station. They played acoustic version of “Month Of May” and “Ready To Start”. As expected, the band make the most of the performance and shed new rays of light into their songs. MP3′s of both songs are posted below along with videos.

Grab it below.

The Strokes Reveal Angles Album Art

By Will, February 11th 2011 — with 3 comments

Nikolai Fraiture promised us something Strokes related at 10 A.M. this morning. True to his word, we got the first look at the album art for Angles. It’s the cool looking album art posted above.

I thought it was going to be tour dates, but hey, I’ll take whatever they’re willing to give us at this point.

[video] LCD Soundsystem – Someone Great (Cello Cover)

By Will, February 11th 2011 — with 2 comments

I’m sitting here getting nervous about buying LCD Soundsystem tickets at MSG. I’m really hoping I get GA, but I feel like half of NYC is thinking the same. I wasn’t able to attend the Mercury Lounge GA pre-sale (Stuck in Binghamton….) and missed out on Pitchfork’s pre-sale.

So I hope I’m able to snag tickets at 11. I’m sure the rest of NYC is right there with me.

To calm the nerves, check out this amazing Cello Cover of “Someone Great” that I’ve been playing this morning. It’s quite beautiful.

Something Strokes Related Is Happening Tomorrow Morning

By Will, February 11th 2011 — with 1 comment

The Strokes
bassist Nikolai Fraiture just posted an interesting message on his personal facebook account (yeah, we’re bros on the ‘book). About half an hour ago he posted:

“‎10 AM… EST…”.

That was it.

If I had to guess, it may be the announcement of some new tour dates. Fans on facebook are speculating that it’s the b-side, but Albert Hammond Jr., said that was coming next week, so, I’m not sure about that.

Either way, I’m pleased. I’m ready for some Strokes tour dates.

[mp3]: Norton – Two Points

By Will, February 10th 2011 — with 1 comment

Check out “Two Points”, the clean cut new single from Portuguese band, Norton. I thought they sounded a lot like Phoenix the minute I heard that clean guitar riff. There are definitely some similarities, but this band certainly shows its chops here. This is a highly enjoyable song. Try and argue against it.

It’s taken from their upcoming album, Layers Of Love United, which will come out in March. If the rest of the songs are this good, we may have a great album for this summer.

While we’re at it, check out two other songs that they have for free download at their bandcamp. The first is a cover of Technotronic’s “Pump Up The Jam”. The second is “Make It Last”, a song they recorded for the Portuguese film, Um Funeral à Chuva.

Little Scream – The Heron and the Fox

By Will, February 10th 2011 — with 2 comments

Little Scream is set to release her debut album, The Golden Record, on Secretly Canadian this April 12th. The song “The Heron and The Fox” gives us a taste for the lovely brand of indie folk that she brings to the table. The song was produced by Richard Reed Parry, and featured Aaron Dessner of The National. Calling it pretty is a vast understatement.

She performed a live session of the song in a car during the bitter cold. It highlights the purity of the song. You can watch it below, then grab a mp3 of the studio version right after.

The Vaccines Reveal Debut Album Artwork

By Will, February 10th 2011 — with 1 comment

Posted above is the album art for The Vaccines debut album, What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?.  They posted a link on their site today telling fans that the albums release date has been pushed up to March 14th. They also used it as an oppurtunity to reveal the albums artwork.

Can’t wait to hear this album. Easily one of my most anticipated of the year.

If you’re in the UK, you can pre-order a signed copy from Play. Unfortunately they don’t ship to the U.S.A. Anyone want to buy me a copy (I’ll paypal you the money).

Justin Taylor – Good Morning

By Will, February 10th 2011 — with 6 comments

As promised, Justin Taylor delivered “Good Morning”, the final song off his Questions & Answers Mixtape. It’s a hazy song that sees Justin singing/rapping in a Kid Cudi style. The song does create an early morning atmosphere. As the last single, it gives the mixtape good closure.

Justin Taylor keeps showing me promise. I think he still has a little way to go until he reaches his full potential, but this is a fine start.

By Will, February 9th 2011 — with 9 comments

James Blake is living it up right now. Today he got a rave review from Pitchfork, 9.0. Music blogs and publications alike have been raving about this guy for months. For good reason. He has talent.

He stopped by Zane Lowe’s show today and delivered a great cover of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You”. The guy can do it all.

I have a mp3 of the performance for you guys. Download it below:
