[new] Okkervil River – Mermaid

By Will, February 8th 2011 — with 2 comments

Okkervil River’s new single Mermaid comes out today, and a stream of the song has surfaced online. It’s a lovely ballad that see’s Will Sheff and co. put it all on the line, ultimately delivering a bare bones performance that will leave many fans breathless.

This single precedes the bands new album, I Am Far, which is due later this year. The 7″ is backed with b-side “Walked Out On a Line”. Be sure to pre-order the album at Jagjaguwar.

Arcade Fire’s Short Film: Scenes from the Suburbs

By Will, February 8th 2011 — with 1 comment

Remember the Spike Jonze directed music video for Arcade Fire’s, “The Suburbs”? Well, it turns out that was a trailer/preview for the 30 minute short film that Jonze directed called Scenes from the Suburbs. The film was written by Jonze, Win Butler, and Will Butler.

The film is premiering this weekend at the Berlin Film Festival. Hopefully we will have more on this later. I can’t wait to see it. For more info, head here. That’s the film’s poster posted above.

[music video] Elbow – Neat Little Rows

By Will, February 8th 2011

Elbow’s new single “Neat Little Rows” is a doing it for me right now. It’s taken from the bands upcoming album, Build a Rocket Boys!, due out on Fiction/Polydor on March 7th. It’s a warm song full of passion that shines with a warm glow.

Watch it’s music video below:

You can also watch a great in-studio performance of “Lippy Kids”. It’s a new song that will also be on the new record. Check that out below:

Local Natives debut Gorilla Manor has been out for a while now, but the songs still sound just as fresh. La Blogotheque just uploaded a brilliant performance of “Who Knows Who Cares”.

It’s fitting that the video came out now. After plenty of time to let the album grow on me, I think it’s safe to call “Who Knows Who Cares” my favorite song from the band. It just has this stunning beauty live that I haven’t been able to shake for months.

See what I’m talking about below:

Don’t see how anyone can dislike this song.

[new] The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – Belong

By Will, February 8th 2011 — with 1 comment

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart’s new album is titled Belong. It also happens to be the title of the 2nd single from the album. “Belong” is a clear indication that the band has taken their sound to a whole new level.

The guitars have a big, bold, crunch that sounds very 90′s (in a good way). The bands formula may not be too different, but why mess with a good thing? Instead, they honed in on what they do best, and found a way to get even better.

Belong is going to be pretty impressive if the rest of the album is this strong. Stream “Belong” below:

TV On The Radio Announce New Album: Nine Types Of Light

By Will, February 8th 2011 — with 1 comment

TV On The Radio’s
hiatus ended a lot quicker than any of us expected. Today they announced that a new album called Nine Types Of Light is on the way. It will be released on Interscope later this spring. They also announced a comeback show on April 13th at Radio City Music Hall.

Just another release that is making 2011 quite a year for music. Can’t wait to see what the guys come up with.

[music video] The New Pornographers – Moves

By Will, February 7th 2011 — with 1 comment

The New Pornographers new music video for “Moves” is a classic in the making. It features a pretty stacked cast that includes Paul Rudd, Bill Hader, Ted Leo, Donald Glover, Kevin Corrigan and Horatio San, and many more.

Words can’t describe the amazing-ness of this video. You just have to hit play, and see for yourself:

New Arctic Monkeys news is like music to my ears. Earlier today the band announced a pair of gigs in their hometown of Sheffield. The shows will take place on June 10 & 11th. Both shows will have support from Miles Kane. The June 10th show will also include The Vaccines. In other words, I am extremely envious of all you who make it out to the June 10th show.

The band is currently recording the album in LA. The announcement of this show is certainly a good thing. It hints that the band will have new songs to share by this summer, and that the record isn’t too far away. Let’s hope that they will announce some U.S. Tour Dates sometime soon.

I know I’ve been posting constantly about the Submarine Soundtrack that Alex Turner did. Most of it was speculation and rumors. Well now we got the official details via a press release.

It will be a 6 song EP released digitally via Domino on March 15th. Here’s the official tracklisting:

1 Stuck On The Puzzle (Intro)
2 Hiding Tonight
3 Glass In The Park
4 It’s Hard To Get Around The Wind
5 Stuck On The Puzzle
6 Piledriver Waltz

So it will be about a month until we get to hear what our boy Alex can do on his own. I can’t even contain my excitement. Can you?

Hear 30 Seconds Of The New Strokes Single: Under Cover Of Darkness

By Will, February 5th 2011 — with 3 comments

If you head to Amazon right now, you can stream 30 seconds of The Strokes comeback single, “Under Cover Of Darkness”. I’ve listened to it a few times now, and it sounds great. It’s only a 30 second clip, but things are sounding really good. Definitely sounds like a return to their earlier sound.

Strokes fans should be really pleased with what they hear.

Listen to the clip here.
