Alex Turner’s Submarine Soundtrack Gets Release Date

By Will, February 5th 2011 — with 4 comments

The release date for the songs that Alex Turner wrote for the Submarine Soundtrack has finally been announced.

According to HitFix, the soundtrack for the upcoming movie, Submarine, written by Alex Turner, will be released on March 14th in the U.K. The U.S. release date will be announced at a later date (it should come out in March as well). This is all according to Domino, whom I assume will release the soundtrack.

The songs that Turner wrote for the soundtrack see him using only acoustic guitar, and piano to record. This will be Turner in his purest form, yet to date.

Some lyrics from the songs include:

“the polka dots type,” and “getting a pass into heaven” and needing a wristband.

Definitely sounds very Tuner-esque to me. I can’t wait to hear this. I can only imagine how magical these songs are.

Head to HitFix to read the entire piece.

[Video] Watch Beach House Play A New Song

By Will, February 4th 2011 — with 3 comments

Here’s a new song that Beach House played at The Laneway Festival in Singapore a few days ago. It’s a raw version and it doesn’t have a title, but I’m like what I hear so far.

Take a listen:

Update: The owner of the video has informed me that the video has been removed. The band want to wait until a proper version is released. Quite understandable!

Ice Black Birds – 22:22

By Will, February 4th 2011 — with 1 comment

Ice Black Birds bring the rock. They’ve got a similar southern garage-rock sound that a young band by the name of Kings Of Leon once had.

Check out their incredible new single, “22:22″. It’s no bullshit rock & roll in its purest form. They make rock & roll sound fresh and exciting during a time where it has practically lost its identity. Kudos to you, Ice Black Birds.

Download it below. It’s got me buzzing on all kinds of levels:

The single drops on March 22nd backed with b-side “S.S.W”. They will be playing in NYC on March 8th at Piano’s, and March 10th at Cake Shop. They will also be playing at SXSW. Check them out if you get the chance.

Poor But Sexy – Hotter Than A Poptart

By Will, February 4th 2011 — with 2 comments

This song “Hotter Than A Poptart” from Poor But Sexy is all kinds of cool. It totally belongs in the 70s/80s with it’s soul inspired r&b influences. The band features Jason Caddell, guitarist of Dismemberment Plan.

“Hotter Than A Poptart” is pretty hard to dislike. Awesome title aside, this music is soothing to the soul. You’re going to want to download this immediately.

It’s taken from their debut album, Let’s Move In Together. The band is self releasing the album on February 15th. The band will also be playing in NYC @ Union Pool on February 25th.

Death From Above 1979 Hint At Future Plans

By Will, February 4th 2011

It’s been a long time since Death From Above 1979 were together. I thought that they were done as a band. It certainly seemed that way. However, something happened, and the band are scheduled to play Coachella this year. Now it looks like it’s not just a one time deal, either.

The band just posted a message on their blog saying that the band isn’t dead, and that more things may be on their way. To them, 11 is a good number, and 2011 could be the year to make all the magic come back. Who knows if we will get a full tour or even new music. Either way, something is brewing, and that’s a very good thing.

[new] Cold Cave – The Great Pan Is Dead

By Will, February 4th 2011

Cold Cave has made the opening song from their new album Cherish the Light Years (due April 5th via Matador Records) for free download. The song, “The Great Pan Is Dead”, is an aggressive song that can be seen as a progression from their last album. I can hear a little of The Cure within the bands big sonic explosion. It’s a sweet combo.

This is a pretty great song. Grab it for free below:

By Will, February 3rd 2011 — with 1 comment

Check out the worthwhile efforts of Pepepiano on their self titled album album. They’re giving it away for free on their bandcamp. They describe the album as “The collected culmination of recent efforts”. It’s a solid album full of spacey chill jams that should warm you up a bit.

Stream it below, or download it for free on their bandcamp.

“So High” is the new single from Austin, Texas band Ringo Deathstarr. It’s a song buried with reverb and feedback. If you like My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain, you’re going to love this young band.

Check out the music video for “So High” below.

It’s from the album Colour Trip, due out on March 8th via Sonic Unyon Records.
