Acid House Kings – Would You Say Stop?

By Will, March 31st 2011

On March 22nd Swedish poppers Acid House Kings released Music Sounds Better With You, their first album in nearly 6 years. The album’s single “Would You Say Stop?” is a warm, comforting, piece of pop. Julia Lannerheim has warm vocals that fans of Belle & Sebastian and Camera Obscura are bound to eat right up.

This is as charming as indie pop can be delivered.

[video] The Strokes – You’re So Right (Live On Jimmy Fallon)

By Will, March 31st 2011 — with 1 comment

The Strokes performed underrated Angles cut, “You’re So Right”, on Jimmy Fallon a few hours ago. The footage was shot in black & white, giving the performance a more than appropriate sinister feel. This song definitely breathes better live. I can’t wait until Friday. Who else is will be at MSG this Friday?

Arctic Monkeys Releasing Exclusive Single For Record Store Day

By Will, March 30th 2011 — with 1 comment

Arctic Monkeys
will release an exclusive white 7” vinyl on Record Store Day (April 16th), as found on the UK Record Store Day website. According to Arctic Monkeys US, the 7″ will feature a new song from Suck It And See called “Don’t Sit Down (Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair)” and the already familiar, “Brick By Brick”. Unfortunately for most people reading this (I think?), we are shit out of luck. This is a UK only exclusive. If any of you UK fans want to help me out and get me one, I’ll gladly throw you money for the 7″, shipping, and a little extra for your efforts. Do let me know.

In other news, it’s confirmed that Zane Lowe will play the Arctic Monkeys new single for the first time on April 11th. So close, yet so far. Can’t wait to see. The band told Q Magizine that Josh Homme contributed backing vocals on Suck It And See track, “All My Own Stunts”. We knew this was coming, but it’s nice to know for sure.

Young Empires Perform Daytrotter Session

By Will, March 29th 2011 — with 2 comments

Our pals Young Empires performed a session for the always wonderful Daytrotter. They performed the (already) familiar tracks “White Doves” & “Glory Of The Night” along with two new tracks: “Enter Through The Sun” & “Let You Sleep Tonight” where Matt sounds a lot like The Cure’s Robert Smith. So much so, that it’s scary.

Young Empires are able to put the same amount of emotion and depth into their studio recordings as they do live. Their a live band first and foremost, and it really shows.

White Denim – Anvil Everything

By Will, March 29th 2011

White Denim keep on impressing me. The latest taste of new album D came in the form of “Anvil Everything”, another psych rock journey down their mind. It’s a track that is very 60′s psych, sounding very Beatles-esque at some points. I even hear a bit of Radiohead deep within “Anvil Everything”‘s DNA. It’s got a lot going for it.

From what we’ve heard from White Denim, it seem as though they’ve stepped up their game heavily for D. If the rest of the album keeps the same quality, D is going to be unstoppable.

The band also put together a mixtape featuring some of their favorite jams. You can stream that below or download it here, via GVB.

Two Wounded Birds – All We Wanna Do

By Will, March 29th 2011

Two Wounded Birds are a band new to me, but I can assure you that I’m now a fan They released a music video for their song “All We Wanna Do” and it’s a minute in a half of indie pop perfection. The Margate, London band have nailed the perfect formula of early guitar pop that’s catchy, irresistible, and unabashedly fun.

“All We Wanna Do” is taken from the bands “Midnight Wave” single that’s due out 18 April 2011, as part of Moshi Moshi Recordings Singles Club.

The video is perfect for the song. It was directed by Phil Sharp.

The single’s available to pre-order from Rough Trade right now.
