Artist To Watch: Jamie Woon

By Will, March 19th 2011 — with 4 comments Artist To Watch MP3 Music Video Video

Some artists hit with me instantly, others take some time to settle. Jamie Woon is the former. Immediately upon listening to his magical song “Lady Luck”, I was swayed. It was love at first listen. He has an incredible voice that flourishes with his dark sexy beats. You could call his music dubstep but you can also call it electronic. The best comparison that I can come up with is a mix of James Blake, Burial, and The XX. Jamie captures a sound that can be described as lonely quest for love during the night.

Buried beneath the electronic surface is an organic singer songwriter. Jamie truly is a singer songwriter type that also benefits from electronic sounds. He’s able to manipulate his voice to work side by side with the electronic beats, creating an entire world of sound. It’s a magical combination that shouldn’t be missed.

His debut album Mirrorwriting will be released April 11 via Candent Songs/Polydor. Stream “Lady Luck”, and “Night Air”, both of which will appear on Mirrorwriting. Jamie is offering his song “Blue Truth” as a free download. It’s not on the album, but it’s worth your time. That’s posted below as well.

How come there is no mention of R’n'B influences. I would say this guy sounds closer to Justin Timberlake that most of his listeners would want to admit. However I would say that is his best attribute.
