Comodo. – To The Sun EP

By Will, March 24th 2011

Last week I introduced you to a great upcoming artist named Comodo. His moody electronic/dubstep has the ability to mesmerize. I was really impressed with “To The Sun” and have been craving to hear more, ever since. Comodo capitalized on this, and recently released the To The Sun EP.

It’s a 4 song EP that dances between dark spaced out dubstep and haunting electronic. He uses vocals as another instrument for the music, adding more depth and perspective to his soulful music. This is music for when your lounging in your bedroom at 4 a..m. You know, when your eyes are heavy and you’re in a daze. This is the perfect go to jam.

The EP is available as a free download at his bandcamp page. I have the whole thing streaming below, so take a listen:

New Bon Iver Album In June

By Will, March 24th 2011 — with 3 comments

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Bon Iver revealed that he has a new 10 song album coming this June. He told RS that he had help from outside artists like saxophonist Colin Stetson (played with Tom Waits + Arcade Fire) and pedal-steel guitarist Greg Leisz (Wilco, Joni Mitchell). He said their presence helped him change his role as the author of the band.

Justin described the 10 song album as a collage where each song represents a different place. He then provides interesting details about a few songs. Very excited to hear the album closer “Beth/Rest” which Justin described as “the part where you pick up your joint and re-light it.” How’s that for awesome?

Seems like the new LP is going to be an immense collection of songs that will be true to who he has become. One thing’s for sure: It’s going to be a lot more studio influenced than the bare cabin inspired Emma, Forever Ago.

June isn’t too far away, but we’ll all still be waiting impatiently for some new Bon Iver. I trust that Justin is going to deliver another magical album that we will all be raving about this summer.

Be sure to read the interview, right here.

[new] Burial – Street Halo + Stolen Dog

By Will, March 24th 2011 — with 1 comment

Burial is releasing a new single titled “Street Halo” on March 28th via Hyperdub. It’s also features two b-sides, “NYC” and “Stolen Dog”.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Benji B played “Street Halo”, as well as “Stolen Dog” on his show last night. Both songs are dense, dark and atmospheric; exactly what you expect from him. He’s able to create such a moody atmosphere through his music. His stuff digs deep into your soul, hitting your emotional core. Both songs are phenomenal. He’s truly in a league of his own.

It’s the first new Burial in nearly three years, and Burial fans can all agree that it was well worth the wait. You can stream radio rips (Pretty great quality, even with the DJ’s talking over the song) of both songs below. The 12″ is available to pre-order at Bleep right now.

Kina Grannis – White Winter Hymnal (Fleet Foxes Cover)

By Will, March 24th 2011 — with 1 comment

Kina Grannis is a singer-songwriter from California who has delivered an incredibly pretty cover of Fleet Foxes “White Winter Hymnal”. It’s taken from her upcoming album, Stairwells, which is being released on April 5. She’s got quite a voice on her, and it really shows on this cover.

She came to fame after getting quite a following on youtube, and winning Doritios Crash The Superbowl contest. She’s come a long way since then. Take a listen:

[video] The Strokes – Taken For A Fool (Live On Letterman)

By Will, March 24th 2011 — with 1 comment

The Strokes brought “Taken For A Fool” for The Late Show with David Letterman tonight. It was a pretty solid performance overall. Definitely good to see Julian getting involved in his performance. Hope he keeps the same intensity for the rest of his live shows. Whose going to MSG?

Watch the performance below courtesy of The Audio Perv:

We All Want Someone To Shout For does have a meaning. It stands for those artists and heroes that make a difference in our lives. Music matters. It sucks that our generation doesn’t have that one band that we all love. There will probably never be another band like The Beatles, and that just flat out stinks.

I spill my mind out about this topic for the Paper Crane Collective. Check out my post:

Coldplay Release New Studio Video

By Will, March 23rd 2011 — with 2 comments

Coldplay are hard at work on their new album. Not too much is known about it other thsn that Brian Eno is once again producing it, and that the band spent some time recording it at a church.

Today the band just uploaded a very brief video of them in the studio. It’s less than 30 seconds, and features schizophrenic jumps of sound clips from their recordings. From what I heard, it sounds like band are experimenting more and more. It’s obviously hard to tell from these clips, but things sound a bit more experimental/psychedelic.

You can follow the bands status at their blog. For now, check out the video of the band in the studio:

BABY JAZZ – Billy Ocean

By Will, March 23rd 2011

BABY JAZZ is the collaboration between Golden Chow (Samuel Cooper of Sunglasses) and Teen Wolfe (Elgin Braden of Aux Arc). They teamed up to create BABY JAZZ, a new project where they’re releasing individual singles to be collected for a full-length album that will come with a companion comic book.

They first caught the blog world by storm with the incredible 12 minute jam, “Michael Jordan”. Now they are back with “Billy Ocean”, a song that’s part ambient, part electronic drowsiness. I imagine that this is what the world sounds like when we’re all in a deep state of sleep. Sound a bit like Animal Collective at parts.

Bad Panda Records, who released the song, called it a “spaghetti western reggae song”. Groovy.

You need “Michael Jordan” as well. Grab that below:
