[new] Tyler, The Creator – Tron Cat

By Will, April 29th 2011 — with 7 comments

A reader in my shoutbox has pointed me to a yo-yo video that features “Tron Cat” a new song from Tyler, The Creator that will be on his incredibly anticipated new album, Goblin. Don’t know how the user got a hold of it, but it seems like it’s legit.

Take a listen below:

Big Boi Working With Modest Mouse

By Will, April 29th 2011

Of all the unlikeliest collaborations, Big Boi and Modest Mouse is definitely high up there. Big Boi announced on his twitter that he’s been in the studio with Modest Mouse for a week, working with them on their new album. He also indicated that Outkast producer, Chris Carmouche is also there. Big Boi also made it seem like Turnt Up could possibly be the title of the new LP.

This is all kinds of awesome. Modest Mouse are certainly spicing things up a bit, and I couldn’t be happier. Let’s see what comes out of this.

[video] Craig Finn – One Single Saviour (Live)

By Will, April 29th 2011 — with 1 comment

Here’s a pretty solo song that The Hold Steady’s frontman, Craig Finn, did live for Minnesota Public Radio. Heaven Is Whenever was hit and miss for a lot of people, but I don’t think many people will be disappointed with “One Single Saviour”:

Titus Andronicus Playing At Binghamton University (Win Free Entry)

By Will, April 28th 2011 — with 1 comment

Concerts here at Binghamton can be very hit or miss. For instance, we got Taking Back Sunday for our spring fling concert next week (buzzkill, much?). Last year we had Girl Talk (awesome). The year before that? Eve 6 (yikes). Gotta love being on New York state’s budge. Thankfully, I’m a part of the wonderful Binghamton Underground Music Presents, who try and balance things out.

Next Thursday Titus Andronicus will be playing at Binghamton University’s Mandela Room, for the amazing price of $5. Support comes from River City Extension & The Jean Jackets (who come from Old Tappan/Ridgewood – which is really close to my hometown). For $5, this is quite a bargain. If you’re a student here at Bing, you better find a way to the Mandela Room next Thursday.

I’m also allowed to give one person free admission to the show. To win, just be the first person to leave a comment. Easy as that.

For more info on the show, head here.

Gold-Bears – Record Store

By Will, April 28th 2011

Gold-Bears’ “Record Store”,  gives off a 90′s garage-indie vibe that I never tire of. It’s a easy to adore summery jam that has just the right amount of fuzz surrounding it’s every move.

If Gold-Bears remind you a bit of The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, you’re not too far off. Both are signed to Slumberland Records, who are releasing the bands new album, Are You Falling In Love?, on May 17th. “Record Store” will be included. Download it below via RCRD LBL

The Strokes Return To The Studio

By Will, April 27th 2011 — with 3 comments

The Strokes have returned to the studio to work on the music – presumably on a (quick) follow up to Angles. Bassist Nikolai Fraiture gave us a bit of insight on the band’s ongoings with the following set of tweets:

So it’s not much to work with, but hey, it’s something. The Strokes weren’t shy about being frustrated about Angles recording sessions. They seemed eager to get into the studio to record again, so that’s certainly exciting. If you didn’t like Angles, this is probably great news to hear. Nikolai also posted a photo of the bands studio set up:

Bon Iver will play his biggest New York City show yet on August 10th when he plays at Prospect Park Bandshell for a Celebrate Brooklyn! Benefit show. Bon Iver is going to have a big, big, 2011, and this is going to surely be one of the highlights. Justin will be backed with a 9-piece band, many of which contributed on his new album.

There will be a pre-sale this Thursday at noon. The regular sale will be the same time on Friday. Head here for that.

Bon Iver’s self titled new album will drop June 21st via Jagjaguwar.

Miracle Fortress – Raw Spectacle

By Will, April 26th 2011

Montreal’s Miracle Fortress has delighted and reeled me in with his seductive single “Raw Spectacle”. It’s a lush electronic offering from his upcoming new album, Was I The Wave?, which drops May 17th via Secret City Records.

You can grab a download for free (gotta click through, sorry! – running low on my monthly bandwidth for box). There’s also a remix from the masterful Pantha du Prince right after it.
