[Contest] Win A HP Envy 14 Laptop

By Will, April 13th 2011 — with 245 comments Contest HP

  • This contest is now closed. I’m currently reviewing all the entries. I will notify the winner within the next week. Thanks to all of you who entered. Good luck!

Hopefully it goes without saying, but I don’t know where I would be without my laptop. Last December, HP hooked me up with an HP ENVY 14 Beats Edition notebook with Windows Live Essentials 2011. Since then, I’ve put it through its paces and am impressed. It’s a super fast system that does everything I need and more. The ENVY is a notebook clearly made for the music listener, providing an awesome listening experience especially when paired with good headphones, such as the Beats by Dre. Solos. When paired with the storage provided with SkyDrive, the syncing ability of Mesh and the other social features of Windows Live, this really is the ultimate computer.

Does this sound like the system for you? If you answered yes, then you may just be in luck. The good people at HP are letting me give away one of these ENVY 14 systems to one of you. That’s right. I have a laptop to give away to one of you guys.

You’ve been great to me for these last few years, and now it’s time to give back. I know that having a computer is more important than ever before, and that in this economy, getting a brand new machine is not a possibility. I think this is where I can help.

I want to give this computer to someone who really needs it. So, in order to enter this contest, and win this computer, I’m asking that you leave a personal note in the comments of this post explaining why you need this notebook, and what features in particular would be most helpful. Please be as honest as possible. I really want to give this to somehow who is in need of a new computer and can truly benefit from it. Be creative. If you’re current computer is falling apart, show me photos. I’ll trust your word, but good concrete evidence will always prevail.

(Note: Unfortunately, this contest is only valid if you’re a U.S. resident. I just got word of this. I’m sorry if you participated and you’re out of the U.S.)

Two weeks from today date (so-April 27th), I’ll personally read through the notes and choose someone to send the notebook to. There are no bonus points for multiple entries or spamming my comments, so please don’t bother. Follow me on Twitter, and become a fan on Facebook. Let me know through them that you’re following me. I’d also appreciate your help thanking HP for allowing me to give this computer away. Follow @HP_PC on Twitter, and send them a thank you with a link to this post.

I’m honored to be working with a company like HP. I’m even happier knowing that one very lucky reader of We All Want Someone To Shout For will be receiving this great laptop. Please enter below, tell your friends, and spread the word.

Good luck to you all!

As an avid music lover, particularly of metal and rock genres (although i appreciate talent in all its forms) i listen to music all day long. I would love to be able to do adjustments so that i could better hear some of the guitar solos that give me goosebumps. with the computer that i have i feel i can not EXPERIENCE the music that i live for that way it is meant to be enjoyed.

My husband’s last day at work is tomorrow and recently his computer is on the fritz, it’s been clinging to life for some time. The left mouse button is permanently “depressed” and the wireless recently went out and i put in a wireless usb and that seems to be holding for now. it’s over 3 years old and so worn, we could really use an up to date system. Thanks for the great contest!

  4. Jennifer Peters13 Apr 11

I Need this notebook because im tied to this desktop, i could use the freedom of a notebook , i love music and ive heard the BBD solos are awesome also have heard windows live is the best, also HP envy is the very top of the line in notebooks and would change my whole computer experience, my system is beyond outdated & slow i would love to own it! xo HPenvy

I’m a homeschooling dad with kids hitting their high school years, and I need a computer that will let them take advantage of everything out there. One is a photographer/graphics wiz, another a screenwriter/novelist/songwriter. I think this computer would be great for both of them (and, of course, I’d borrow it from time to time as well!)

  6. Steven Ryan McClean13 Apr 11

Obviously, like most other people, I would love this Laptop because I love music. However, Next fall I will be going to Indiana University to study Music Informatics and Business. To have this laptop means that I would have a terrific computer to do my schoolwork on, as well as a NECESSARY tool that I will need to help me proceed though my Musical Education. Also, I wouldn’t have to spend my money on buying a laptop, so I could spend it on other, more important things… POSSIBLY food?

  7. Jakob13 Apr 11

I need it because i currently have no laptop and this one looks super cool and i need one to listen to good music and to communicate with my friends

  8. Brad13 Apr 11

As an avid music fan, the beats capability would be an amazing attribute to enhance the music listening experience. I will say that the computer would be used for more than music listening. I have a wife who is a stay at home mom and is working on starting a consulting business for adopting children. My son was adopted a year ago and has touched our lives very much. WE are currently teaching him about all things from a very old laptop which cannot play video well. THis laptop would help teach him pre school lessons as well as other activities to stimulate his mind, which does include listening to music out of the norm. I do hope I win this contest for my wife and my baby son nate!!

I am a junior in high school, and hope to go off to an Ivy League school in a couple of years. Until recently, for money and music, I worked at my Dad’s record store, Vinyl fever, in Tampa, which was named one of Rolling Stone’s Top 25 stores in the country. Until a couple months ago, when we had to close. Wasn’t making enough money any more. I am now out of a job and have had to turn to the computer to support my massive listening habits, but the laptop I have right now is rather slow and doesn’t have much storage space (I have to go through it and delete a shitload of stuff every once in a while to make room for new stuff). I do not have the money and I cannot save enough money for a new laptop, because I spend most of my money on concert tickets (no joke). I would benefit greatly from having an efficient laptop to help me keep up with both music and social networking-I spend all my spare time on Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter and Last.fm. I could save a lot of time with a faster laptop, and as you know, those things are essential for going to college because I type a lot faster than I write and I will probably do all of my homework on it. I’m not going to pretend that I can’t get by on my current laptop, but a new one would help A LOT and save me a lot of time. I’m following on Twitter (d_wolfman) and Tumblr (workingfortheclampdown.tumblr.com) and friends on FB

IN need OF a laptop DESPERATELY as currently i have to share with my family and im a uni student whom has assignments to complete so i have to go to the library every time which is a pain so this laptop will help massively with my studies.
also the performance of my shared laptop is painfully slow and im therefore unable to properly continue my favourite pastime of mixing songs as the laptop doesnt meet the required performance

  11. David Wolfson13 Apr 11

oh yeah, and if I win this laptop, I will give away my old one. Keep spreading the love. I’m not in this for money

  12. Victor sebastian13 Apr 11

in the last 1 1/2 years my personal laptop died, i migrated to an external HD, when that died I put over 60GB of MP3′s on my work lappy and in the three weeks I’ve been experiencing HD failure and I probably have another week to either migrate to a cloud or to a new lappy/pc/whatever. please help me clear my work HD before it fails, they find out, and i get canned. :) good luck to everyone

  13. YK13 Apr 11

I read your blog everyday but this computer i read it on is a piece of junk (a 4year old PC). So this post has certainly caught my attention. my touch pad is basically missing, the system is too slow, and itunes always has problems loading for some reason – extra frustrating for this fellow music lover. Not to mention how embarrassing it is to bring this into school/the office amongst the shiny new macs (I stand by the PC though). Getting this laptop would pretty much change my life. But either way, keep up the good work – and how excited are you for the new arctic monkeys album?!? :)

  14. Ella13 Apr 11

wHERE TO START…FIRST OFF, i’VE RECENTLY STARTED A BAND WITH A FRIEND – IF i WERE TO TELL ANYONE THEY’D PROBABLY LAUGH – BUT IT’S A LIFE LONG DREAM TO SAY THAT I PERFORMED ON STAGE IN NYC, EVEN IF THE BAND PLAYS ONE SHOW HOW AMAZING OF A MEMORY WILL THAT BE! oF COURSE A LAPTOP IS EXTREMELY ESSENTIAL IN HELPING WITH WRITING, CREATING, RECORDING MUSIC! aLSO…I’M IN A 2 YEAR LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP AND THE THOUGHT OF SKYPE AND BEING ABLE TO SEE HIS FACE IN BETWEEN MONTH LONG VISITS MAKES MY HEART WARM AND FUZZY!

    tHANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY!

  15. Timbre13 Apr 11

My current laptop is about 7 years old, and barely handles my Design work, DJing, and music production. I could write up a pity story, but I’m mostly just hoping that on a whim, this avid reader can get a helping hand from one of the few music blogs I still have time to follow.

Backlit keys would help me see what I’m doing while DJing, a high-contrast display would mean I could do more design work away from home without an external display, and high-quality onboard audio would mean I could carry one less peripheral device for listening.

In any case, keep up the quality blogging.

    Thanks

I work in an awesome independent Record store, called Euclid Records, In st. Louis, mo. I’ve had my pc since about the time I started working there, which was around 7 years ago. I don’t Make a lot (and work a second job at a concert venue to cover my costs) And so as badly as I have wanted to upgrade, and need to, I simply can’t afford to go into more debt. I love my record store job so much, and your bLog helps me keep on the lookOut for new stuff to order for our stock and what everyone is going to want to have. I appreciate all you Do to help me dO my awesome job to the fullest. I also DJ from time to time, via records and an iPod, and would love to give this laptop a spin on how it handles a DJ gig. There’s so much I would like to be doing now for music (making it, wRiting about it, collecting it, listening to it) that is just simply hard to Do and time consuming with this old, slow, out of date Computer. Thanks for the consideration, and if you are ever in St. Louis, stop by the store and I will shoW you around!!!

I can’t say that I need the help more than anyone else, but here’s the state of my (2008) laptop: http://tinypic.com/r/2ez704z/7

It wasn’t in the best shape to begin with ( i had literally wore the paint off of where my hands had rested near the keyboard), but while bouncing around last year (only moved 7 times) the screen shattered. hooked it up to a friend’s monitor and fortunately the whole computer didn’t die, so I HAD TO GET AN INEXPENSIVE MONITOR (WHICH ISN’T BAD TO HAVE ON HAND ANYWAYS, I GUESS).

It won’t “restart” ever… so when there are software upgrades it just kind of sits there, taunting me until i do a hard shut down… have to just leave it in a perpetual sleep state (which it kinda remains in when it’s still running, haha) and given how much time I spend on it (you know more than anyone how hard we put these to the test) i can only imagine that its days are numbered.

regardless, thanks for hearing me out – hope that whoever gets it is able to put it to work.

  18. Luke Schnoebelen13 Apr 11

I have to say that nothing (besides hearing my daughter laugh) has touched me as much as music has. And seeing that my Daughter is growing into a little girl I hope that she can be influenced by music as I have.

I would use this laptop to create the perfect learning experience for my family. From learning about different types of music, to watching videos on how to play instruments, and discovering the ability to build things digitally.

I also would use this laptop to promote local talent in Kansas City, I take in a lot of shows and celebrate a lot of music locally. I think that this laptop would allow me to spread the love and perhaps enhance others live through music at the local level.

MY wife and I also enjoy hosting people at our home and this would be a great addition to our home, being able to plug this bad boy in and set the mood with all of the audio offerings, a lot of good times would come from it.

Lastly, I will pay it forward and donate our current netbook to charity.

HOpe I’m offered the chance to win!

  19. kevin13 Apr 11

Well, this couldn’t come at a better time! for your consideration…

I’ve recently switched Life paths and I am returning to school (after 20 years!). I’m planning on going into design and a laptop will be very necessary. my current computer has been fixed and rebuilt and fixed and…you get the idea. Having to afford tuition, a desktop and a laptop will be excruciating, so winning this would make things a little bit easier.

thanks, and good luck to everyone!

  20. martin berefus13 Apr 11

Hi guys, well I’m a dear follower of your blog and the reason why I greatly need this laptop is because I’m going of to college in a few months to full sail university for film and its Randle expensive school and I will needs a great laptop to edit film which iis what will be my major. So I would greatly appreciate if you guys would pick me as a winner for your giveaway. It would help me alot to have a laptop of that kind for school.

    Thanks :)

  21. David13 Apr 11

This contest sucks. Seriously, it’s a cool prize but just offer it at random to people who get a question right. This is essentially ‘Who has the most deserving sob story?’ and it stinks. You might as well ask your readers to send in videos of themselves begging.

  22. Malachi Douthit13 Apr 11

In Early 2010, I moved back to the us from Australia to work with my father learning the family business. i missed my connecting flight in la and had to wait until the next day to get home. In the meantime, my father went under the knife to clear his carotid artery because he had been suffering TIa’s (mini strokes). during surgery (while i was stuck in la), dad suffered a major stroke and has not recovered. my apprenticeship quickly became a job i wasn’t prepared to take. My dad spent 3 months in a rehab facility but has been left with severely impaired vision, a dead hand and is not able to walk. I am still using his full sized laptop while he tries to look at porn on a netbook (which i assume is massively frustrating). Every time I see my father, he asks, “when can i have my laptop back?” to which i respond, “when i can afford to buy a new one.” I would love a new laptop so that I can give my dad back his computer. I would use it for work (data collection systems) as well as to continue composing short songs with fruity loops XXL in my spare time. I honestly sit at my desk (home office) looking at the screen of my dad’s laptop all day, every day…listening to music, reading blogs and composing music. Thanks for your consideration. Cheers!

  23. Emily H13 Apr 11

A few months ago my hard drive died and I was laid off so I wasn’t (and haven’t been) Able to replace it. Not only is it hard to find a job in this day in age, but it’s made even worse by not being able to be on the internet daily/hourly/minutely (is that a word?). Thank goodness for my smartphone and the free computers at the library or I don’t know how I would be online. but i miss having my own computer. This would help me out so much more than you know. I need a laptop so i can get a job…oh and listen to music and read blogs and stuff. thanks for what you do :)

  24. bohsandos13 Apr 11

wow, I like HP’s advertising strategy. very convincing!!!!!

  25. Mark Dancer13 Apr 11

I do not own a laptop, but I do own Beats by Dre On Tour headphones, so this computer would be the perfect companion. My wife, daughter and I travel quite a bit, and this would really come in handy in hotel rooms, so we could listen to music, and my daughter could watch movies on Netflix.

As the parent of a 5-year-old girl, I feel that it is my duty as a parent to give her the music education that she will not get from school, her friends or (God forbid) the radio. I am an avid “WAWSTSF” reader, thanks to my RSS reader, and I download many of the site’s offerings on a daily basis. It would be awesome to be able to read and download on the same, portable machine.

I always take excellent care of all of my possessions, as evidenced by my Honda Accord, which I bought new in 2000, and I am still driving, 188,000 miles later. I am also my company’s IT manager, so I know how to properly take care of a laptop. This laptop would definitely be going to a great and loving home!

Pick me, so my kid doesn’t end up with a musical background based entirely on Victoria Justice and The Beebs. Future artists thank you.

  26. Brad Bruce13 Apr 11

I need this notebook because I am currently using a MDG notebook that has seen better days. The mounting for the screen has LITERALLY snapped in half, and now I get to prop the SCREEN against something to even use it. Very PORTABLE lol. I am EMBARRASSED of my notebook, and just cannot afford to buy something adequate at this time, do to raising a family. The features that mean the most to be, would be the quality of audio “Beats”, and multimedia functionality. I am an audio engineer, and also a videographer. The power and performance in the hp envy line will ALLOW me to move my CAREER forward. Nothing worse than showing up to a client with a busted notebook. P.s. I am probably one of the only audio/video guys that prefers pc over mac.

  27. SPORTS13 Apr 11

i need this computer because it will help take sports to the next level in our live show by helping us trigger lights and and helping us to perform musically as well.

    love,
    sports

  28. Kat C13 Apr 11

Your generosity in giving the laptop away could not have come at a better time for me. I’m an avid blogger, music addict, and web surfer of all things music. I’m also a chick with a 9-5. And at that 9-5, they love the SonicWall. They block everything I need. In order to tweet about what I’m “#nowplaying”, or to “Like” a new artist on FaceBook, or to even see my own tumblr, I have to rely on a wireless internet connection from my personal laptop. And last night (I promise you, I’m not making this up), my laptop died. I’ve been getting by with my phone, but I can’t keep this up forever. Eventually, I’m gonna need to get the old laptop fixed, or buy a new one. However, if I got a new one, and I was able listen to all the new music I crave daily with the Beats Audio experience, it would be awesome. I also need the i5 processor to work fast (and not have to wait forever for things to load up) so that I can get right back to work after I do my music-related stuff. When I don’t have time to put everything I’ve downloaded on my iPod, I usually just throw everything in on a Flash drive so I can update my iPod whenever I get home (again, waiting and waiting for files to transfer), and iMesh would definitely eliminate that problem. This would make my life so much easier!

Thanks so much for your consideration! :-)

  29. Anthony (PARALLELCOMICS)13 Apr 11

My computer has had a few… quirks for a few years. My brother tosses a dvd case, thinking I can and will catch it. TRagedy strikes:
    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/BoShek-ITG/2011-04-13155850_Arlington_Massachusetts_US.jpg
Not to mention that the hard drive is undersized and filled to bursting with music. The rig you’re giving away is a fresh start, a clean new hard-drive and scary-good speakers to kick out jams for years to come.

But everyone’s got SOMETHING up with their computer. why should you, Will, select me to win this new one? Simply this: because by running a music blog that cuts so close to my tastes, you’ve cost me a computer’s worth of cold hard cash! You just HAD to get me excited about the Vaccines… three months before their album’s US release date! I almost never bootleg, so what did I do? I order the CD from Korea: http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p175/BoShek-ITG/2011-04-13155836_Arlington_Massachusetts_US.jpg
    20 bucks.

A post on your site tells me that arctic monkeys tickets are nearly sold out in all American cities, I blitz to Ticketmaster, get there in time.
    38 bucks. (Damn convenience fees!)

And on and on through the years. By keeping me well informed and excited about new music, you are slowly bleeding me dry. Time for an infusion of sweet new computer action.

(In all seriousness, this is my #1 visited music blog. Congrats on the site’s rapid ascent through the world of online music writing and thanks for the tunes.)

  30. Sarah Ann Smith13 Apr 11

Music is the main reason I’m alive today. In college i suffered my first episode of major depressive disorder. i now have recurrent depression, meaning i will deal with it the rest of my life. without question, music gets me through my darkest periods. i now work at a mental health facility with troubled adolescents. one of my favorite things to do is talk music and blogs with the kids. any urge, from using drugs to cutting, can be sidetracked by listening to the right playlist or song. i help the kids build playlists for when they’re going through rough moments. i plan to start a master’s program in social work in the fall so i can help struggling teenagers out even more. unfortunately, i’m barely paid enough to cover my monthly bills at my job. i can’t afford concert tickets, so the beats audio would give me the next best music experience. the sound of my netbook only works if i turn the screen a certain way and hold it there, haha. that doesn’t keep me from listening to listening to every mp3 on your site though! my car also breaks down pretty much every week, so there’s no way i can afford a laptop anytime soon. I have no disc drive, and not nearly enough memory to support the amount of music i listen to(640 gigs of storage space would be so awesome). it would also kick ass to have a computer for school(currently don’t have memory for microsoft office). my boyfriend recently took a job 7 hours away, so decent video quality(High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED-backlit Display!!!!) and screen size(14.5″!!!) is a must so we can skype. music got me out of feeling suicidal, and i want to convince the younger population it can do the same for them.

  31. Sarah Ann Smith13 Apr 11

OH, AND I WOULD GLADLY DONATE MY NETBOOK!

  32. Will13 Apr 11

David: If the contest stinks, no one if forcing you to enter. I made it this way so I could give it to someone who is truly in need of a computer. I don’t see the point of just randomly giving it away. That’s cool too, but the times are hard, and I’d rather give it to someone who really needs one, instead of just wanting one.

But like I said, if you don’t like the way I’m running it, then you don’t have to enter.

  33. Harry13 Apr 11

Hey Will! First Of all Great contest! i love the blog in general and I’ve been checking it almost daily for two and a half years. I found the blog at first by accident when i typed the lyrics to the monkeys song into google and the rest is history! Anyway, back to the laptop! I’m not going to bullshit you and say it’s going to help my kids etc, because that doesnt even make sense! but I will say that I am a music lover and my current PC, that’s right Pc, is 10 years old and falling apart. It’s painfully slow mainly due to the amount of music on the hard-drive and i feel like anyday it’s just going to give up on me! i’m starting college next year and need a laptop for assignments, etc. from reviews I have read, the HP Envy Beats is awesome! I’d love to blast Suck it and See at full volume through this bad boy! Keep up the great work! Oh and I’m following you on twitter also! @monkeyloops

  34. Kris13 Apr 11

Do you have to have a fb account to enter?

  35. Will13 Apr 11

@Kris – Nope, everyone can enter. just follow the instructions and you’re good to go!

  36. Jesse13 Apr 11

    Will,

thank you so much for putting this contest together with the help of HP. It is very generous of you both!

My wife and I are just starting out the blogging world. We were married in october and have started writing about our marriage and (more importantly ;) ) about baking. We find it a beautiful thing to discuss our successes and failures in baking and then be able to look at it all as relative to the fact that we are married.

Our computers are both about to die. We met in college 5 years ago, and we both had the same computers we have now! Functional, sure, able to handle what we want to do with our website, no.

We would be able to use the new HP Envy as a tool to further our want to get our thoughts and advice out to the world. We think that marriage is something that is continually looked at as temporary and not a big deal, so when folks get married and find it hard they don’t think they can admit it is hard and get help. We want to spell that idea.

ANyway, thanks for your’s and HP’s generosity! We love your blog.

    BEst,
    Jesse Crouse

  37. Reniazen13 Apr 11

I could give you the whole sob story about how I haven’t been able to find work for a year, that I live with my in-laws and access the internet on my crappy dell, but instead I will just say that I desperately need a new computer because I have .97 gb of storage left on the one I have and since music is my life, that isn’t going to last very long. Please help your friend in music:D

  38. dudz13 Apr 11

to be fair, davo has a point… seems quite a loose comp!

i do like Malachi’s effort though.

    good luck bandits x

  39. ad!13 Apr 11

as you can see i’m running a blog, love music and do a lot of sound editing for dance companies. just because i like it. since my money is going away for people in need, i’m still sitting here with a some years old desktop computer. getting stuck once in a while and just can’t finish my sound editing in time.

so, in another words, a hp laptop would be very welcome.

  40. gary13 Apr 11

I’m going to do a something a little crazy. I’m going to suggest someone else as the recipient of the laptop. His name is Charles Munat. About a year ago he quit his job and began traveling the world. he earns his keep wherever he is by doing freelance work from his laptop. A couple weeks ago while in Buenos Aires his laptop was stolen by a group of very organized thieves. The full details are at http://munatbros.com/ Without a laptop he can’t continue to support himself. We have been fund raising through paypal to help him replace his laptop but if you decide to send him this HP he could use the money we have raised so far to replace his backup drives. Thank you for your consideration. -Gary

  41. Didi13 Apr 11

    Hi,

  42. Alyssa13 Apr 11

I would use this laptop to mix music to play while I work On my business. I have used beats audio before it would be amazing on a laptop!

  43. JUstin13 Apr 11

thank you for offering such a great product! I would love this laptop! HP has impressed me quite a bit lately by their new stuff! my family has been without a decent computer for a long while, with no room at all for photos and music for the family. this would really be a lifesaver. i’ve also been looking into developing for webos and realized my computer now can’t do anything that is needed for doing that.

thanks for the opportunity to get such a great computer you guys and hp!

  44. Jeremy13 Apr 11

well im going to be going to high-school next year, and i really need something that i can do my homework on easily. I also was thinking about getting involved in media so i would need something that could run programs like beats and Sony Vegas with ease. Right now, im using My family’s 7 year old low-end dell that takes FOREVER to load anything. An upgrade would Really be nice.

  45. WillDewBadley13 Apr 11

Hey will, I will try to keep this short, seeing as how you’ll have a lot of reading to do. I am a music student in Colorado and I partake in a number of ensembles.

I recently have began jamming with an old friend who I was in a band with in high school. The material we’ve been recording lately has been much better than anything we wrote in high school. We both attended school on the same scholarship and were given computers as part of that. Unfortunately, as you could guess, these computers are not the best for making music. Because we both have such busy and conflicting schedules, it is important for us to be able to record ideas and parts to send to one another.

More recently my friend’s computer stopped working (it was only 6 years old, but that is pretty much ancient for a computer). As a result our music making as been slowed down to a halt. This would be more than amazing to be able to use to record and listen to music. We’re both followers of your blog, and hope to one day be featured on it. Here is a link to our Soundcloud:
    http://soundcloud.com/dusseldorf-zimmerman/surgeons-tongue-demo
We try to mix our singer-songwriter style with electronica, and I feel like a product backed by Dre would probably do well with that sort of thing.

Whether or not we win this laptop, we will continue making music, and we will definitely continue reading your blog. But winning this computer would make both of those things much easier.

i was trying to brainstorm some ideas for why i should win this contest, and these were the best ones i could come up with (do me a favour and read through them…)

-the bad thing about my current computer is how old and slow it is.

-the beats audio would really make me put my dancing shoes on.

-good sound quality is the cornerstone of any great laptop.

-when the sun goes down i can’t see my keyboard because it isn’t backlit.

-my battery currently lasts for about 505 seconds before it dies.

-I have a certain romance with great technology and even better music.

-my current laptop is falling apart brick by brick.

Currently running an ANCIENT 2003 laptop (http://twitpic.com/4kkqdg – I got it when I started uni) that is on its LAST LEG and by last leg I mean the monitor is shot and I’m using an external monitor and you can imagine how slow it runs. MUSIC is my blood, over the past two years I have been to 100+ shows driving all over the north east of the US and rocking out to my favorite bands like The Audition, Anarbor, Parachute, Oh No Not Stereo (to name a SMALL few)!

A new HP envy would be the BEST most amazing addition to my techno family and would give me the ability to find MORE bands and attend MORE shows and maybe even make remixes of my favorite tunes <3 Thinking of all the new technology that I am unable currently to take part in, video blogs, uploading edited concert footage, basic photo editing and SO much more really gets me SUPER excited to actively participate!!

I try not to think about how much technology I'm missing running my old machine, but reading about this machine designed with techno geeks in mind has really got me excited about the possibility of trying this stuff out! AND BONUS! its SOO PRETTY.

I am asking for this laptop not for me personally, but for my family. my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. The last two years have been the most difficult for me and my family. On march 31st of this year she passed away in her home with her whole loving and supportive family besides her.

If this whole experience was not difficult enough, our family is burdened with very expensive hospital bills that we no longer have the money for. WE are having a benefit to try and raise money for our family. If we win this laptop we would raffle it off at the benefit. you can see the facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Benefit-for-Judy-Calabrese/204417779569979

    thank you for your consideration.

    Hello,
I am currently a freshman at a top 25 university. I come from a low middle class family and I am paying for college with scholarships and financial aid. When I started college I couldn’t afford to get a macbook (it seems like everyone on campus has one) or a new pc so I had to use my older brother’s laptop. This old laptop is unreliable and crashed many times on me while writing papers and doing my assignments. Fortunately I was able to recover some of my documents but right now i am currently laptopless. I have been using the dorm lab to do assignments.

ThE Envy would help make college less stressful and would help be more productive. Did I forget to mention that I love music? I’m not sure where I would be without it. It DEFINITELY helps me out during long nights

  50. Eric14 Apr 11

I’m an avid fan of music, art and technology and would like to start making music of my own and work on various art projects that i haven’t been able to work on all while i look for a new job. my old hp pc which is 7 years old just took a dive on me and i lost more then half of my music collection and all of my digital art that i had been working and all i currently have is netbook and my cell phone and i’m sad to say my phone works better then my netbook. the hp envy would be perfect for me to download and listen to music and give me the chance to start mixing my own. i recently moved and have been looking for a new job in a new field and having a functioning computer would definitely help me . i’m also looking at going back to school too. so needless to say this computer could quite a game changer for me in many ways from being able to listen to music how it should be listened to, to being able to make music of my own and finding a new job so i can get back on my feet. plus in my social networking endeavors i’ve had the chance to meet some great people and companies and am looking to start a real blog of my own , not just a tumblr page. This computer would be a great stepping stone to help me rebuild my professional life. thank you and hp for the chance at winning this awesome laptop.

  51. Jade14 Apr 11

i think you know all the reasons i need a new laptop ;)

let me know which lost disc you need,by the way. I found a place where i can buy each disc separately for super cheap.

also, nice new font on the comment box!

  52. Jost14 Apr 11

Oh man! one seems to be in tough competition for the worst laptop.

I Hope i can win, even though i’m situated in europe. But better try than not even have tried.
Well I’m Jost and i’m writing this musicblog. I’m a 20 year old student and spending all my money on Cds. Since that is my obsession i never got around to save enough monye to bux a proper laptop to work with. (or even a camera to document mine)
The one i’m owning right now was already in average shape when i got it. Bought it in 2009 with the money i got for my exams. It’s a nice little 13″ screen with some scrathces here and there. Since i don’t even have a desk in my room the pc always stands on my bed. Once, my girldfriend came over and we were so absent minded that my pc dropped on the floor. It cracked open on the one side and the power socket smashed. Got it fixed for nearly the money the thing had cost in the first place.
The best about my laptop is the really huge storage of 80gb which is packed with 70gb music. But that’s okay. I Had to delete some songs anyway since taste changes. Nearly better than the storage is the great speaker system it has (there is none because the boxes got damaged by the fall) But let’s face the truth, headphones are way cooler than pc speaker boxes.
I’m sorry I can’t proof my words with pictures. Just think of a fine 13″ laptop with some tape here and there and a really awesome power socket.
Perhaps there is chance for me to get it if not my blog will live on without good quality sounds.

Thank You for hearing me judges.

    PS: Check out my Blog.

to say i’m an avid music lover is an understatement… i’m one of those people who has their headphones in their ears from when i start my day to when i am ready to sleep, and i’m a fan of all music… i know a lot of people say that but i really am. all music. music is just as important to me as breathing. but about my laptop… I’ve pretty much had my laptop since my senior year in high school in 2005… this laptop (that i am on right now) is almost 7 years old now. i am waaaay overdue for a new laptop… i got it with a warranty and had to send it in for various repairs over the years. even paying an extra $200 for an extended (now expired) 2 yr warranty… so i guess you could say my laptop has seen better days. but it really is getting way too old to function… at 80gbs of hard drive space and 512 mbs of ram… it can barely keep up with all the latest technologies the internet has to offer. however its the only laptop that i have… and i’m glad it can at least still get the job done. my laptop does have its problems though… the screen will randomly give out from time to time… i have to smack the keyboard in order for the screen to possibly come back on.. even then there is no guarantee that is will turn back on unless i close the laptop and keep repeating this process until it comes back on.. and if all else fails i have to restart the laptop for it to come back on. the battery has gave out… the only way it turns on is if the laptop is plugged in… other than that it won’t turn on. the cd drive won’t burn cd’s anymore (thank goodness i can sync music to my ipod). but all in all my laptop is waaay to old and prob will eventually give out. times are tough and i don’t have the money to get a new laptop right now. timing is also very unfortunate seeing as how i am going back to school this upcoming semester and am in need of a new laptop. usually i don’t participate in contests b/c it seems like luck is never on my side… but i thought i’ll at least give it a shot. if i were to win this laptop… it would be more than just a prize for me. it would not only help me in school… but also get me inspired in creating music. I’m an aspiring dj/producer/ musician… and this laptop with its features would really help me on my journey to achieve this goal. i feel like i’ve tried my best in convincing you that i really need this laptop, and if you need any pictures or proof of this laptop then i would be more than glad to send you the photos of my laptop. just let me know where to send the photos.

p.s. i just wanted to thank you will for all the great music that you post and share… as a very busy person i sometimes don’t have much time to discover new music. i have your blog bookmarked in my explorer and check wawstsf as often as i can… so thanks again for all the incredible music you share. it is greatly appreciated!

  54. Bob Moston14 Apr 11

    hello,

first of all, thanks for your blog; i’ve found so many new artists who i now love… so thanks!

the laptop… well… where do i begin? i’ve had my current laptop for nearly 10 years now; it was the cheapest one i could get from tesco and bought because i needed one for work. it takes around 10 minutes to load up and freezes on average once a day. it even seems to have a permanent layer of dust and dirt on it now; regardless of how much i have tried to clean it!

i spend a lot of my time writing, recording, playing and listening to music so the laptop is essential to my everyday functioning as a musician. I can write and play music fine without the aid of a laptop, however when it comes to recording and listening to music, this is where it falters.

i have a good 300,000 strong mp3 library which the laptop doesn’t really enjoy having to load and access and, when i’m recording music, i have to re-start the laptop after i’ve recorded each individual track because it freezes otherwise. it really hinders the creative process and, baring in mind it takes 10 minutes to load, kind of kills the buzz when i’m trying to record something. i’d really like to get better at the technical side of music, but i’m not in a position to do that with this current laptop.

oh, and i’m a high school teacher, so i have to use my laptop all the time at work as well as in my spare time as a musician.

thanks for reading! hope i don’t sound too pathetic!

    Bob

Though the laws of probability are not currently in my favor, I’ll give this a shot. I’ve just begun high school this year and I’ve already had a ton of projects requiring a newer operating system. My current computer is my parents old one (from the 90s). So far, I’ve narrowly been able to make it work, but it’s getting increasingly difficult due to storage issues. Its particularly my vast music collection thats taking up so much room. My current computer is unfortunately still somewhat functional, so my parents won’t get me a new one, and I’m not in a decent financial situation, so I’m somewhat stuck. I’d really appreciate winning, but the only reason I’ve even decided to enter was so that I could get the feeling that I at least tried to do everything I could to upgrade. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this Will(:

  57. Chuck14 Apr 11

I work in radio…so I make no money…my laptop is over four years old…it’s been beat battered and bruised! The power supply has to be wrapped in electrical tape just at the right angle so I can power the piece of crap up!

Here’s the worst part…whenever it goes into hibernation mode…I lose sound. That’s every time!!! So go head and take a guess how many times I have to restart my computer a day…it blows.

I need that slick piece of hotness in my life, not only for my day to day work responsibilities but so I can jam or rock or bump and pound massive amounts of quality music that I discover on your site.

  58. james14 Apr 11

i can’t afford to buy a laptop so i am entering this contest to try and win one. I am going back to school to upgrade myself so I need a laptop to help me manage my assignments, tutorials, etc. I do a little freelance Photography, compose music, write blogs also and this will mean i need the portability of a laptop when i need to be on the go.
THe features of the laptop that would be most helpful to me is the fast speed and mobility, excellent sound system and HIGH Res display. This will enable me to accomplish all my tasks in a productive and efficient manner.

  59. Helen Stockwell14 Apr 11

Giving this HP ENVY away is a great gift and anyone that you give this too would be better off for it. You should present it to someone who would get the most out of its amazing MUSIC sound system; an avid lover and appreciator of all genres of music, like Adele, Michael jackson, Dr Dre., green day, et. The new owner should be a constant user of social media applications for professional and personal reasons. They should know the impact and resources that will be made available to them on a daily basis and be grateful for this extraordinary gift. That’s who i am and no one would be more appreciative to have this great machine to listen to the music I love and communicate in a world willing to listen. I am a current owner of a desktop that has been brought back to live twice but is about to take it’s last & final breathe. to stay connected to the World is my goal and your generosity would help me accomplish just that.

    Thank you!

I am a junior in college working on my ba in psychology. i’m taking a 19 unit course load and I bring my laptop with me to every class. unfortunately my current laptop has decided to eat its own battery so now i have to get to class ten minutes early so as to be sure to sit beside one of the three functioning outlets that each room has. my computer also has hearing problems and sometimes rejects my requests to play any sound. this is quite unfortunate as i plan to be writing my thesis on the physcological hearing effects of music in depression patients-which, as it turns out, is quite positive. in light of this, I’m pretty sure if I do not recieve (see also: win) a computer that has adequate music perfomance, storage, and sound-I am destined to become depressed. -the end.

  61. Brian l14 Apr 11

Hey i couLd really use a laptop. Any laptop would do really because i need it for college. I am In the middle of a semEsTer and my macbook just bit the dust. Too much to repair and Way too much for a new one. Just want something depEndable to Researchand writE papers on. It’d be a real life saver because my wrist is in a splint righT now due to fallinG off a roof (docTor’s bills are why i Am lacking in the financE department). I understand that there are probAbly people who need it way more than me but if thEre is a second or third place laptop that is really slow or beat up i will take it. Just need soMEthing so i’m not forced to write all my papers.

  62. Steven W14 Apr 11

I need this computer because I do not have one of my own. Right now all I have to use for the internet is my Blackberry and the computers at the public library – which I can use for one hour a day if available. As far as features that are important to me, as long as it has wifi and video and audio capabilities, I would be in heaven. Thanks for your consideration. I haved “liked” you on facebook for a long time. Thanks for the contest and thanks for the website.

  63. Stephen Insana15 Apr 11

This hp laptop could help me in so many ways. i don’t currently own a computer. i only listen to cd’s and the only way i find new music is by burning cd’s from my girlfriend’s computer. i also am in a 1 man band and have not been able to record anything but cassettes lately so that means no multi-tracking. this laptop could also help me on stage by functioning as an effects processor or sampler, 2 things that i don’t have the money for right now but need to play the kind of live music that i want to. this laptop would be putting me where i would like to be in music community. it would make me a better, more adventurous listener. it would help me make the type of music i’ve been dying to record, and help me get my music out there for others to enjoy. thanks for the opportunity -Stephen

  64. blake15 Apr 11

don’t you love when you’re giving something away, for free, because you want to make someone feel good…… and then some piece of shit feels the need to bitch about the way you choose to do it?

    good times.

  65. Amanda15 Apr 11

Can people from the uk enter?

  66. Pooch15 Apr 11

So let me start off by saying that I’ve been using my beatup netbook for the past three years and have recently dived into the “game” of blogging. Having big clumsy hands doesn’t help much with my being a quick typer using a tiny, useless keyboard (the “y” and “v” keys are missing… i’m pressing this straw-like thing to type the letters).
I’m also struggling to get by with the horrible amount of memory that is available (even with the additional hardware and whatnot). It’s just not the same… Lastly, having a system like this awesome HP would be great for my music listening and analysis, which has been somewhat distorted by the not-so-effective sound-system and hardware in my netbook. I’ve been using Beats headphones for my iPod and can only imagine the sound that the HP would be able to play! Operative word “Imagine”. Being a student who was recently fired from my former job as a legal clerk at a now-defunct law firm, i don’t really have the money to get a new computer so, really, we’ll see if my site can survive longer than my computer does, because without it, i’m not really sure how i’d be able to maintain my hobbies of music and writing.

  67. Alex15 Apr 11

I was thinking about writing an elaborate essay for this post but instead i think i’ll just list some reasons why i think i would be a good candidate for this hp laptop
    - I am currenlty a sophmore in college without a laptop which makes the library basically my second home
    - I am passionate about music and have been a fan of this site for a couple years now
    - I am a journalism major, and ideally i would like to integrate my love for music into my writing
    - I have always wanted to create/maintain a blog similiar to this one, and a laptop would enable me to pursue that dream
    - A laptop would mean the world to me, It would allow me to keep in touch with my family/friends, eliminate the nightly trips to the library, and make everything more enjoyable

    thanks for the oppurtunity
    peace

  68. Brandon Zingale15 Apr 11

Why do i need an HP envy Laptop? because it’s everything i could have ever wanted in my life and more. as an inspired artist, i am always working on my music and trying to get the music to sound perfectly. With Dre Beats installed in my computer, i can do just that. after my last laptop got stolen and all my files were lost, i feel that this is destiny, that dr dre and yourself mr. will oliver, are sending me a message from the computer gods. I don’t think i would ever be happier. I think i have been waiting for this contest my entire life.

  69. Will15 Apr 11

Bad news, Amanda. I just spoke to HP and this contest is only valid for U.S. residents. I’m so sorry!!

  70. Santalopian's Tubes15 Apr 11

I know it’s going to be tough competing with all the other depressed, long distance relationship people with 7 year old laptops (really, does a 7 year old laptop even work still?) but, I’ll give it a shot.

First off, I bought my newly wed Brazilian wife a pink Dell netbook for Christmas and it was stolen. A lot of stuff was stolen out of her bags on the flight back from Brazil including a cell phone, most of her designer clothes, some high heels, Tommy Hilfiger sweat pants (Brazilians seem to love Tommy) and a pair of running shoes. Hopefully the airline does something about it, but I highly doubt it so far.

Anyways, I need my own laptop since she’s taken over mine. It’s really hard to dedicate quality time to masturbatory acts when you’re married and even more so when your wife takes over your laptop. Sure I can borrow it back, delete all the history, hide the downloads in a “Tax” folder, etc. but I really need my own. It’s been weeks man!!

Watching porno isn’t that only thing I engage in on my Laptop as I do check my emails, download music from your blog, edit songs our band has recorded (and realize we aren’t nearly as good as we should be) and maybe even read the news.

help me get back some of my independence. I understand that I’m your typical whipped married guy supporting a wife that is way too hot for him, but this will help me big time. I will put the top notch sound quality to good use when I’m watching videos and listening to songs. I know you feel my pain. Help a brother out.

  71. dino15 Apr 11

I’m constantly on the go with the Army and currently am running a small netbook that just does not cut it. Music and movies are the only thing that keeps me sane with school, work, and the army.

I need a mobile media machine that will allow me to do everything i need and still give me time for some entertainment. There is nothing i do without some good music in the backround.

This machine is absolutely killer and would be a fine addition to my media arsenal. thanks for the contest, good luck to all.

  72. Teresa15 Apr 11

So I need a computer because my current computer has a very irritating short in it. Because of this it makes it extremely difficult to write my master’s thesis for Physician assistant school. Mid-sentence my computer shuts off without warning leaving me cursing and at times blinking back the tears. I would love to fix the problem but it seems to be married to the motherboard which would cost at least 200 dollars to fix…200 dollars i don’t have since i am in school. the parts of this computer that excites me the most are 1. it turns on and stays on. 2. I no longer lose hard fought paragraphs to my paper. 3. it will not have black electric tape holding the power cord in just the right place so that it won’t shut off! Thanks for sharing this neat opportunity. I hope that you are able to pick just the right person to bless them with a computer!!

  73. Jon16 Apr 11

    Hello will,

well to get to the point, this contest couldn’t have come at a better time, currently i am working and going to school, and the only reason i am working are for two reasons , one is to help my mom pay for the bills around the house, and the rest is to save up for a laptop computer that i have really needed for some time now, but you see, 15 dollars put aside a month isnt really the going to get me to a new laptop anytime soon, not to mention that sometimes have i have dig into my savings to buy food and take some money out to have cash on me, for my bus ride to school and back home…

winning this contest would really help me , although i am trying to save up for a laptop, its really not easy for me at the moment, anyways t hanks for the opportunity

  74. Andrea16 Apr 11

I’ve been using my sisters old netbook for the past several months because my old laptop, a lenovo t61 is incredibly unportable and unusable. The screen got crack somehow, something this wrong with the battery (it won’t charge anymore, but the laptop doesn’t say its bad, just tries to insist its not a legitimate lenovo battery). Add to that the fact that its graphics card is quite weak, and I’m studying 3d animation at school. School loans and dues make it hard to afford a new laptop, so I end up only able to use the macs in the schools computer lab, which is very inconvenient. At least with this hp laptop, it has a powerful graphics card, and is more adept at high priority and performance tasks (from programming, to animation, to photo manipulation). Doesn’t help that it looks nice, and being 14″, shouldn’t be hard to tote around to class.

  75. Rajee16 Apr 11

i Need this notebook because my laptop is very slow. I need to use it for my blog work. I heard HP envy is the very top of the line in notebooks and would make my life easier,

  76. Shawna Elkins16 Apr 11

I need this laptop simply because I do not have one, that’s right I am the only person left on earth without a laptop. If I had this laptop i could do so much more with my newly started blog, and elevate my photography to the next level for sure. i’m a stay at home mommy to a gorgeous little angel named rylie, who is 22 months old. as all mommies know, it’s so hard to do stuff when you have a 22 month old who is never still. especially if you have a desktop that is in the back bedroom. i don’t have the time i would like to have to get my blog & photography where it needs to be but if i had a laptop i would have so much more time to do it. photography is my passion and this laptop would be amazing. because i could add music to slide shows and my blog. my daughter loves music too. i’d never be able to afford to buy one and that is as honest as i could be. thanks for the chance to win this.

  77. Mateusz Gajor16 Apr 11

I could use a computer in general (laptop especially) as I am currently traveling around the world and do not have one. Yes I am a Us resident despite being in Australia at the moment asstated in my blog. I would like to have one as I travel now because it would be quite convenient to have a laptop that is fairly portable but powerful enough to edit some photos. During this trip I have taken crazy amounts of pictures and having a laptop would make it 200x more amazing. Also family would love to see my face from time to time via Skype.
Also being a backpacker for the next few years it might be a little more difficult to get a good laptop while traveling due to being on a budget ^_^ Would be nice to be able to watch a movie or do soke Photoshoping while traveling around ^_^ Great site btw. Hopefully mine could be like yours one day.

  78. ERic16 Apr 11

WEll, after being in a touring band years ago, I’ve spent the past few years blogging about music. I have recently resurrected my career as a musician. I’ve been writing songs and need a way to record and capture them. a laptop with beats audio would be great! The beats audio is supposed to be superior to standard computer audio and I think it would make all the difference in my recordings.

  79. Lindsey16 Apr 11

I’ve read through all the other entries and I’m not expecting much here as I don’t have a career in music to any degree and that seems to be what you’re looking for. I’m a writer and OCCASIONALLY am asked to assist in writing lyrics but even that’s once in a blue moon. Wait, I write. There’s an in I could use. I need a machine that I can trust won’t stop on me at any given moment and lose hours, even days of manuscript! Though, some of the best books in the world were written without the assistance of a machine. Crap. I could go with the sob story (it’s rather compelling. It includes 1 dead fiance, 2 parents with cancer, and having myself, a heart condition that could take me out at any moment.)

Truth is I have no #1 reason/compelling argument why I deserve a free computer more than anyone else who has posted but I hope to still sway your consideration. I do listen to music approximately 12 hours a day. It’s my motivation, my emotion, and if I had any talent in the field, it’d be my life. This used to be from my laptop but since it’s been on the fritz, i’m stuck with the good old FM radio which seems more concerned about the traffic situation here in Kansas City than playing music. I work from home. My life is completely centered around my computer and if I don’t win this contest, I will likely have to give in and purchase a new one, which would include not eating anything more than Ramen for a substantial amount of time. It’s not in good shape. It has no viruses but that doesn’t stop it from giving me the blue screen of death on almost a daily basis. The touch pad doesn’t work, there’s no sound, and it’s literally falling to pieces (as if it wasn’t already huge and awkward to carry). Check out the pictures:

    http://yfrog.com/h0opygyj
    http://yfrog.com/h76z1ggj

As you can see, it doesn’t even shut all the way.

Because of the broken pieces, I can’t tilt the screen at any angle.. it has to sit up at a perfect 90 degrees (at best, sometimes it’s even less). Which is annoying. I know it doesnt sound that bad… but try it with your computer for even 10 minutes. I’ll wait. (Horrible, wasn’t it?)

There is no PARTICULAR feature I need. I straight up just need a new computer. I need Microsoft Office, working speakers, preferably a working touchpad (though not a requirement) and storage to hold at least 10,000 songs.. That’s not asking so much right? I don’t need glitz and glam but would be ecstatic to get this machine that clearly has it.

Thank you (and HP) for consideration. This contest rocks and congrats to the lucky winner!!!

    Lindsey

I came to the united states from India because i got a scholarship to attend an american college. I grew up on a farm in a small village in rural india (where we literally rode horses and dirtbikes instead of driving cars) and moved to new york to study business. The adjustment period was scary and exciting, but i’ve fallen in love with america and I plan on working here after I graduate.

Besides being a student, I work two jobs – One to pay rent on the tiny room in a house that I stay at, and one to use the computers at school. I took a job working in a computer lab at the school I’m at just so I can have access to a computer whenever I need it. I don’t have my own computer and it would literally change my life if I owned this machine. The first thing I’d do is quit my job at the lab and actually have some free time to enjoy instead of constant work and studying.

I found your blog because one of my american friends (whose computer I am using now) frequents it, and you’ve introduced me to tons of new music. For that, I’m grateful, and if you chose me as a winner for this laptop words can’t express how appreciative I would be. Thanks will.

    Jay

    Will,

I am a 20 year old college student at case western reserve university. I have been a fan of your blog for some time now ever since I came across it when i was searching for music from the national, my favorite band.

i am separated from my parents due to being excommunicated from the religious commune they live in. as a result i have to pay for 100% of my college costs which here at case is in excess of $60,000. Fortunately i receive scholarships and grants and have to cover the rest with loans. unfortunately, due to recent government bills that were passed in congress, a large portion of federal funding for independent students like me was slashed. In short, I am unsure if i will have enough money to continue school in the fall.

on top of this, my computer that is over 5 years old is starting to crap out. it is blue-screening several times a week and is really slow, to the point where it takes 20 minutes to start up and start working on homework. also, the wireless internet connector stopped working, making it very inconvenient to work wherever i can’t plug in to ethernet ( i.e. most of campus) and the battery only holds its charge for 10 minutes. as you know, a good reliable computer is absolutely essential to being successful in college. I am going to have to get a new computer soon; hopefully mine lasts until summer. I was looking in to taking out a loan to buy one since i don’t have enough money from my part time job to buy one.

winning this computer would mean alot to me because i would not have to spend all that money and it would probably save enough to make it possible to stay in college, which is extremely important to me being successful. I don’t know what I will do if I can’t pay for school next year as i have pretty much exhausted all my options at this point…

I hope you consider my situation. I have never been one to beg but faced with the reality of not being able to pay for school, I am getting desperate.

p.s. i will send you pictures, where should i send them?

Hello, I’ve been coming to this blog for awhile and you have helped me discover some amazing music and for that im so thankful. Everytime you post about a new up and coming band i cant help but feel excited but also very dissapointed at the same time. i feel if i had just something to even make a super basic demo with i could actually become something and end up doing what i love to live. My computer doesnt is a desktop and doesnt have any recording programs and the hp envy seems amazing with the diy studio. i’m working two jobs and can’t afford a laptop or really any instruments other than my the guitar and amp i bought a few years back. i want to be one of the those people you post about being the next thing and to keep your eye on. Either way no matter how the contest goes im so glad you are around and you really do drive me even more so than i already am to make something amazing and worthy of your blog. Thank you so much, Mario.b

(sorry about the first post, i got all mixed up with errors cause of the all caps text haha not trying to post twice)

Ive gotta say, the first thing that interested me (besides the twitter post a few days ago) was this laptops stunning looks, great job working with HP on this one!

Okay, now on to the story- Well, first off, i did have a perfectly working computer, built from scratch by myself, with mega amounts of storage for music and movies in mind. (160gb for the OS and programs, 3 tb for media) I have meticulously arranged my music into folders, by artist and album. The mistake, however, was splitting the cost of this computer with my girlfriend of 4 years (As of about a month ago). Needless to say, she got the computer. I only just convinced her not to trash the collection (almost 20k songs!), very thankfully. But, working two jobs (As a waiter, and at Target in the early mornings) just DOESN’T pay the bills, let alone for anything extra i might need. I am typing this from my local LIBRARY, to paint a clearer picture. Not only would this computer help with my CAReeR (trying to land an APPRENTICESHIP as a carpenter), but i could have my beloved music collection back! In style, no less.

    Thank you for considering!

  85. Jaime G17 Apr 11

Sorry for the random errors… spell check sort of goofed them into caps lock. And pictures of my build:

what a great contest, I need to win because my wife and I share my old dell. It runs slow and overheats. I love music so much so the best feature would be how aweseome it would play music and how amazing it would sound.

  87. Michelle Simons17 Apr 11

Its getting too hard to keep using my ipod all the time and it would be a wonderful upgrade to get to enjoy a hp laptop. i would be so happy with the sound while watching music videos. i could upload my videos from my flip camera to youtube that have been waiting for me to do so. thank you.

  88. Katy17 Apr 11

I need a laptop because my desktop is on it’s last legs and I can not afford a new one.I have never had a laptop, would love the freedom of moving around with it and listening to music with it.Also my daughter will be going to college and will need to have one!

  89. Angela kinder17 Apr 11

The current laptop we have is great, but I love heavy metal and when I play it on this laptop, it doesn’t sound right. It sounds like something you would play on a cheap radio or CD player. Sure, we also have an iPod, but it’s an old 4th generation and the sound still isn’t quite there. Plus, my Mom’s birthday is coming up and I think she would love to have her own laptop to do her research!

  90. Julie b17 Apr 11

Very excited at the oppurtunity to try to win a laptop. i’m very tired of not having a portable computing device. i’m still using my desktop from 1999… yikes! i need an upgrade.

  91. Laura17 Apr 11

I need this computer because, well I don’t really need it. I would like it, because I love HP… and it would be nice to trade out my boys’ old desktop for something they can use online to play games~~~ or do homework ;)

  92. chris17 Apr 11

this is cool, i love music. my laptop is on it’s last leg!

  93. Amber17 Apr 11

I would really love to win this computer to give to my mother. I have been teaching my mother how to use the computer to better communicate with me, my little brother, and her grandchildren more effectively. Since my father died, she has felt out of touch with the family, and now she is comfortable using Skype, sending email and looking at our photos online. I’m so glad she’s been able to incorporate technology into her world in such a positive way. She was definitely apprehensive and nervous at first, but after a lot of personal coaching, she’s learned so quickly! I had given her my old Toshiba laptop but it recently completely broke – I think it was a hard drive failure but I’m not entirely sure. Now, my mom is searching for a new computer but has no idea what she is looking for. I’m so busy with work I haven’t really had time to research like I should, but reading your review, I think this HP Laptop would be perfect for her. She’ll be able to listen to her favorites – Rod Stewart and The Beatles – and stay in touch with all of us!

  94. angela17 Apr 11

I would love to win this it would make a great mothers day gift for my mom.

  95. Margaret Smith17 Apr 11

We could really use this laptop because right now my family and I share one desktop. My sons, both require use of a computer for their school work and this coming year, our oldest son will be going into high school and will be using the computer often. Having a laptop, for the family, will really help us out with not having to time everyones use on the computer.
    Thanks so much.

  96. Gary W.17 Apr 11

This laptop would be great because it’s light weight and powerful. I will be starting college in the fall and this would really help.

  97. Patricia17 Apr 11

My husbands laptop died a cruel death. I would love to win and give this laptop to him. He loves music and would be in music heaven!

  98. TAMMY HANKINS17 Apr 11

    COOL PRIZE

  99. Michael S17 Apr 11

current laptop is so old. Love the audio performance

  100. catherine copeland17 Apr 11

I’m a school teacher and I could really use the HP envy both in and outside of the classroom.

My classroom computer has broken down four times this year, sometimes for weeks at a time. This means that I need to go to the city library to create my lesson plans and do research for my classroom projects.

Having the HP envy would be a lifesaver

  101. William W17 Apr 11

I’m currently running on a 7-year old computer. Seeing as it went obsolete the second i bought it, a new one would be amazing.

  102. amanda18 Apr 11

there are 4 of us in the family, and often times, one of us needs to do research (mainly my mom for her condition) but we don’t want to disturb the other person. this would greatly help us.

  103. Debra Hall18 Apr 11

i’d like to have it for my mom, she has been very ill and is in a rehab center this would be great for her. she misses normal things i life

  104. allyson18 Apr 11

OME A GREAT PERSON. SHE GOES TO SCHOOL ,WORKS AS A MASSAGE THRAPIST AND HELPS AROUND THE HOUSE. THIS COMPUTER WOULD ALLOW HER DO HER HOME WORK ELSEWHERE. MY FAVORITE FEATURE IS THE MEMORY

  105. LEROY T.18 Apr 11

    NEED A NEW LAPTOP BADD!!!

  106. Tari Lawson18 Apr 11

I could really use a computer that had high speed and lots of storage capacity. I take lots of photos and want to work on editing and organizing them for projects. Right now I have to share a computer with my husband and kids. Not an ideal situation.

  107. Amy B.18 Apr 11

I would give this to my teenage daughter. She loves music and really needs a computer of her own for her own room. She needs to have one that she can get on when she needs to and not have to share with the rest of the family. We share the desktop and at times it is hard for her to do what she wants when she wants to. She is really into music (as about all teens are) and would enjoy this to the fullest. I just can not afford to get her one right now. In these times it seems like teenagers in middle and high schools need to use the computer a lot for all their assignments and with this she could have the best of both worlds. Music and lessons. Thanks for the chance. Following you on twitter with my twitter name makeetis.

  108. Cynthia C18 Apr 11

I have never owned a laptop and it’s not in the budget anytime soon. I would love to be able to use my computer on the go to keep in touch with my kids.

  109. andrew gordon18 Apr 11

I just started a new business and one thing I am lacking is an up-to-date laptop to take on the road for presentations. This laptop fits the bill.

  110. aisling18 Apr 11

My gRAnddaughter’s excellent hp laptop died after nearly 6 years of continuous use. Luckily, she could hook it up to a desktop monitor and didn’t lose any data (but the screen is gone). she’ll graduate college next month and head for graduate school in the fall. she really has to get a new laptop before then and it would be great to win one for her.

  111. Brittney18 Apr 11

I would like to win it so that i would have a computer to take on photoshoots. it would be a lot easier to be able to take my computer with me to show clients their photos, instead of having to schedule another day for them to come to my studio to view.

    brittneydejajason (@) gmail(dot)com

  112. Lynda edghill18 Apr 11

My son is starting college in the fall and is going to really need a laptop, especially for online books. This would be a big help and one less thing i have to figure out how to pay for!

  113. MJ18 Apr 11

Thank you for this opportunity. In my house, the aging desktop is the only entertainment device for the whole family. (I don’t count my ancient Sansa mp3 player with a capacity of around 200 songs…) WE don’t have cable or Tivo, or even a TV or music player. Cell phone? No. A typical day looks like this:

9 am- My daughter watches a cartoon while I check my email and the news. We do this on the same machine at the same time, and it results in a sticky, skipping cartoon and sluggish web browsing.

around 12:30 pm- daughter goes down for her nap. I put on internet radio or music. Usually the computer slows down about now, and the radio tends to crash.

around 4 pm- I start dinner. I let my daughter watch another cartoon. If we’re lucky Netflix streaming or Hulu won’t be too slow.

Evening- It’s my husband’s turn. He watches youtube and other videos, news and sometimes hulu or a movie with me. Things are sometimes quicker to load. The entire computer crashes several times a week.

At times throughout the day I’ll catch a youtube video or listen to music, but it varies. This seems to be a lot for our old desktop to handle. As far as features, all the music features sound amazing, but since I store all of my media on my computer, the storage is probably most important to me- wait, speed would be nice, too. Can you tell I am dazzled by the thought of a new, elegant computer?

As a PS, I am expecting a baby in July, and the sum of luxury to me would be the ability to nurse on my bed while watching PBS or listening to music on my laptop. It might sound silly, but it’s where I am right now!

  114. Nadine L18 Apr 11

I have had the same computer for 6 years, it is really time to upgrade and get into the new techno-world. This thing is slow as bleep, cannot be upgraded anymore and is freezing up on me constantly. I think the feature I would love most (besides the fact that it would be lightning fast compared to what I have now) is the Red Backlit Keyboard , weird I know, but I love the idea of being able to surf online at night without having the lights going full blast and disturbing my hubby. Seeing the keyboard without the lights on would be great since I am a night owl (insomniac)

  115. Robert bocanegra18 Apr 11

I do not have a laptop
so i am unable to svisit this website when I am away from my desktop
which means i miss all the new and womderful music when i am out of town, on vacation or when my desktop crashes
please save me from being the last to know about good music

  116. Elizabeth Snow18 Apr 11

I am in need of this laptop because I am a stay at home mom and need to be able to bring the computer wherever and whenever. I also need a good computer to be able to communicate with my mom who lives in sc and I am in ny. She needs to be able to see her grandkids and them her! It is important to keep family that is far away close…so we need a fast running computer and our desktop is not cutting it :/ Thank you so much for this oppurtunity to with this computer. It would mean alot to us!

  117. Heather M.18 Apr 11

I’d love to win this for my husband. He enjoys making music and would love to have a computer he can dedicate to that purpose.

  118. Deborah R18 Apr 11

I have an OLder compaq computer that’s starting to go. Every once in a while the video card malfunctions and all i can see are a bunch of bars. i think the fan’s going, too, since it seems to run a lot more than it used to. i use my computer to stay in touch with my son and grandson, who live on a usaf base in turkey, so i’m coddling this as much as I can. A new computer…and a laptop, at that!…would be such a blessing. Thanks for the chance! btw, the computer looks fine or i’d send you a photo, and when the lines come up, i have to hurry to shut it down…but if you choose me and want evidence, i will provide it.

I would like to win this it would make a great mothers day gift for my mom…she could use it to archive her recipes.

  121. Maria S.18 Apr 11

Wow what a great giveaway, I could really use this computer because my current computer cannot handle all that I want to do with it. I have a podcast that i’m trying to get off the ground and my current computer makes it very difficult for me to do so. everytime i have to use my ipod to record and then try to convert files, put them together, etc (it’s a whole ordeal) I think this computer would make this so much easier and for a music lover as myself it would be a dream to be able to work with this computer. thanks for hosting this giveaway!

  122. Jacob18 Apr 11

this would be such a huge help because i could seriously use it for work! I work at a job where we use computers that have special software that my work will give us but i do not have a computer at home that can handle it. my pc is really obsolete (windows 2000) and can’t support the programs i use. if i had this computer i would be able to work at home and this would be great because 1. there is very limited room at work and they really want people to work from home so i am annoying the bosses and 2. it would save a ton on gas which is certainly not cheap. plus a laptop would allow me to set up office anywhere in the house!!!

  123. amanda h18 Apr 11

I was going to enter this because I’ve always loved this laptop, being an avid music lover … i have music note tattoos :) but i then read the details of entering and i’m sure someone needs it more than i do. i think it’s great that’s how you’re running your giveaway. Just make sure the winner pays it forward and passes your kindness on. good luck everyone!!!

  124. Jimmy18 Apr 11

My computer is old and slowing down so this would be great

  125. Jacob LaFountaine18 Apr 11

I like new toys and I would enjoy taking this outside to keep up on email and news

  126. @emilydunlay18 Apr 11

i would like to win this because im graduating college in may and would love to start my own business suite whether it be in the office or on the go. This computer would be so light weight and handy for me to upload my photography, artwork, and keep up to date on all my social media networking with ease on this handy dandy laptop. I would love to be able to own this and not be stuck at a desk when it comes to working and communicating and starting my photography internship this summer, I know this will definitely be a valuable tool for my success.

  127. tracy davis18 Apr 11

I need it because i currently have no laptop. The feature I like best is the ability to download music

  128. Christina bandy/Deftonesgirly6919 Apr 11

First, I’d like to say thank you so very much for this opportunity. I am so grateful for people like you that give back to the less fortunate.

ok..let me start this off with a link to a twitpic of a laptop i am currently borrowing. http://twitpic.com/3kfvrf . the cracks/blackness have only gotten worse since. it is very hard to use. i am borrowing this from my mother. we are on a very limited income, and our old computer crashed. thank goodness for my mother & our neighbor who each sometimes allow us to borrow their comps.

my husband is disabled, i have a job that does not pay very well, and we have a 10 yr old son to provide for. i know i can try to find a better job in the meantime, but i have job security where i am at, and with this economy i cannot just take the risk.
i do plan on going back to school so i can provide better for my family. this notebook would be essential!

speaking of school, my son needs something to where he can better his studies, do projects, and reports. i used to take him to the library, until, in a move, we lost some books from the library & i am working on paying them back, slowly but surely, but until then, we cannot use their facility. He also has certain websites he can use that are linked to the school for extra credit. He loves doing the extra credit. We explain to him how important his studies are, yet we cannot provide the means for proper research.

one other factor is that my husband & his family are from the ar/ok area. We live in Nevada. We did live in ar/ok, from my pregnancy, sons birth, up until a few years ago. My husbands family adores our son, and i would love to email them pictures on a regular basis. borrowing a laptop/computer, I do not want to download anything to something that is not mine, so we are unable to do that. Family is very important, and we miss them, and they miss us & our son so very much. our nanny & pa are the sweetest people on the planet. We know how much it hurts they cannot see our son, so this would be an absolute blessing for them, for us to keep in touch more regularly, in faster means.

I’d like to add that the music features on this laptop are absolutely amazing!! music is a huge part of our lives. it’s how my husband & I met, and we actually played in a band together for years, up until my husbands health had deteriorated. Our son has grown to love music just as much as we do, and we are very proud. I feel badly for my husband, the ultimate music lover, not being able to do what I know he was meant to do in life. On his good days, when we have the laptop from my mother, he can lay down & just look up different bands, or listen to our old c.d’s. Needless to say, with limited internet time, we aren’t “up with the times” and there is a lot in the music scene that we are missing out on.

We had planned on purchasing a computer from a pawn shop with our income taxes. Unfortunately, we were unable to do that. With us living paycheck to paycheck & struggling, I have loan after loan out. With our taxes, I payed some towards the loans, and my car has been acting horribly lately. I drive 20 miles to work, and 20 miles from work. We have only 1 car. I had to get my car worked on, which cost a pretty penny. now adding the gas prices, We just cannot afford anything extra in our lives. My husband and I will go without eating dinner so our son can eat.

This laptop would mean the world to us. From me going back to school, to helping my son with his studies, to keeping in contact with family, listening to music, and so much more!!

I can honestly go on & on, but I know you have a lot of entries to read. Thank you so much again for this opportunity!

  129. Janna jOHNSON19 Apr 11

Hello! Not sure why this will only let me type in caps! I would love to have a new laptop for school! The skydrive feature would be great for me because I can upload documents and powerpoint presentations for school and access them there. I am a music fan to so the beats audio would be a great way to relax to soothing music!

  130. Annette D19 Apr 11

I would love to win this computer for my son! He is graduating from High School in may and will be attending college in the fall. He does not have a laptop, so this computer would be so helpful for him as he starts college. He loves music and is a musician himself, so this computer would be absolutely perfect for him. Thanks for the chance!

  131. 216amyc19 Apr 11

i WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A GREAT COMPUTER LIKE THIS ONE, BECAUSE i DON’T HAVE ONE AT HOME. i USE EITHER MY WORK COMPUTER ON BREAKS OR GO TO THE LIBRARY. i USED TO HAVE AN eBAY BUSINESS AND USED MY THEN BOYFRIEND’S COMPUTER TO MANAGE MY LISTINGS. wE BROKE UP, i MOVED AND NOW i DON’T HAVE ONE. sO, IF i WON THIS COMPUTER i’D USE IT TO START UP MY EBAY BUSINESS AGAIN. i JUST RECENTLY FORECLOSED ON THE HOME MY EX AND i OWNED TOGETHER, SO i REALLY LOVE BEING ABLE TO MAKE EXTRA CASH AT HOME TO HELP PAY OFF SOME OF MY DEBTS. tHANK YOU!

  132. Jonathan nunez19 Apr 11

HIYA IM IN DEEP NEED OF THIS LAPTOP I MEAN YES I WOULD VERY MUCH ENJOY LISTENING TO MUSIC ON THIS BEAUTY BUT I ALSO WanT AND NEED to work on it. I love to make music as a musician , and student wise I need to do some studies. I got nothing zip nada right now and would kill for such a gift I really hope I can get some amazing things done with this notebook thank you for listening :)

  133. James19 Apr 11

My main reason for needing a new laptop is for my website. I currently commute on the bus (an hour each way) to work and could use 2 hours with a laptop each day to work on my music blog. I am currently using blogger and with a laptop I could have 2 extra hours a day to spend getting my site over to wordpress.

  134. Colin Gross19 Apr 11

Recently my life became extremely chaotic. After about six months of listening and contributing to my favorite indie radio station Newnormalmusic.com, they contacted me with the offer to be a dj for them. As a college student it has always been my dream to prove my parents wrong in their thinking that spending all my free time scouring the web for the next cool thing in music is not a waste. The catch is: I desperately need to upgrade my computer for this opportunity to work out. tHE MUSIC CAPABILITIES OF A NEW envy WOULD MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO dj VIA REMOTE DESKTOP FROM LITERALLY ANYWHERE meaning I could possibly have the career of my dreams by going to shows and interviewing bands on the go! This would help the station out immensely and would be life changing for me. With my setup now, there just isn’t any hardware that is up to date or at all oriented towards these musical endeavors. I’d like to thank HP for providing such a sweet opportunity, as well as the site housing this amazing contest.

Here is a link to the site I’m djing at.
    http://www.newnormalmusic.com/new-normal-music-dj-info
My passion in life is music. Whether it is creating, collecting, or sharing with others. At the moment, my laptop is severely hindering me from reaching as many people as I possibly could with a computer that was both running well and had the tools to interact more with the music. I would be incredibly honored to win this contest.

Since you like evidence, I figured I would also give you the link to my band.camp, seeing as the Envy’s capabilities would allow for me to advance technologically in production quality and in performance.
    http://kidnickels.bandcamp.com/
here is my other profile (which i think better illustrates how much improvement could be made with this Envy)

    Thanks for everything,
Much love for what you do,
    Colin

I need This laptop to make better music.

  136. Ryan O19 Apr 11

I am a college student in san diego. I play guitar and drums almost all day, everyday. i’m constantly recording and showing off my new songs to my friends. I record on a mac right now which i carry with me wherever i go. It’s enough to get the job done, but i’m not quite getting the quality i need. i’d love the new hp envy to store not only my personally recorded music, but also my beloved collection of other music. it would also help me record better, more awesome stuff. So please help me out.

oh and i also have rabies, i’m really ugly, and i live in a cardboard box.

  137. Nathan19 Apr 11

I saw your contest on twitter, and I really would like this laptop. I would be using it for work: Swiftsharing.net which is a new social network that my friends and I just started. It has shot off like a rocket, and we are at 7k members in 3 full months. I really would like to win this laptop because of the i5 processor, and it’s 4GB of ram. This would be a great addition in helping me code my way to the next facebook with SwiftSharing. The graphics card that comes in the envy is a great addition, and it would greatly benefit me in re-doing the graphic design on SwiftSharing. Beats audio is amazing, and I have tested out the headphones, which are truly amazing. The envy also comes with Photoshop Elements, which is a greatly appreciated program. I so much wish that you would pick me to win this laptop, and I would use it to help further swiftsharing development, along with helping others to the best of my ability. Thank you for the chance to win this great laptop.

i’ve been trying to save up for a laptop for a long time. i’m not a free loader or anything ( i have a job and support myself) but i can’t afford a computer with my part-time wage so i’ve been hopping on my friends computers whenever i i can and using my works computer too.

i play guitar so i hope to use some of the music software on the hp to make/improve my music. would be a nice break to actually win something for once. thank you.

I travel alot for work and I have a 3 month old Daughter. Its painful to be away from my Wife and Daughter having this would allow me to Skype them when I am on the road and be able to see them and them see me. I hate to miss my daughter growing up.

Computer crashed last year. Been using my son’s desktop. Would be nice to have my own laptop. I would like to write stories or maybe a book.

WHERE TO BEGIN? I DON’T HAVE A PICTURE TO SHOW YOU OF MY PAST LAPTOP FALLING APART BECAUSE IT’S BEEN TWO YEARS THAT I’VE SUFFERED WITHOUT MY OWN PERSONAL COMPUTER; MY 2004 MACBOOK ENDED IT’S LONG AND USEFUL LIFE IN 2009 AFTER A GOOD FIGHT AND AFTER MANY BATTERY REPLACEMENTS AND HARD DRIVES…BUT STOPPED TURNING ON ALL TOGETHER.

I’M A FREELANCE WRITER FOR 3 DIFFERENT WEBSITES AND HAVE BEEN LAID OFF 3 TIMES IN THE PAST 3 YEARS – 3 SEEMS TO BE THE NUMBER, EH? ANYWAY, AFTER A FEW YEARS OFF, I FIGURED I’D GO BACK TO COLLEGE TO ADD ON A WRITING CERTIFICATE TO MY DEGREE TO MAKE ME MORE MARKETABLE BUT AM FINDING MY COLLEGE COURSES AND FREELANCE WRITING GIGS ARE A LOT HARDER TO DO ON PUBLIC COMPUTERS OR SHARED COMPUTERS WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

MY FAMILY HAVE AN HP AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT – IT’S A TOUCHSMART. I THINK IF I HAD AN HP BEATS LAPTOP IN MY POSSESSION THE FEATURES I’D LOVE MOST IS THE AMOUNT OF DISK SPACE (MAC’S DON’T HAVE MUCH AND AS A WRITER I NEED SPACE!) AND THE EXCEPTIONAL AUDIO QUALITY (MOST OF MY WRITING IS ABOUT MUSIC AND HEARING EVERYTHING CLEARLY WOULD MAKE MY REVIEWS THAT MUCH BETTER). I ALSO WOULD LIKE THE HP MEDIASMART – I USE THAT ON MY PARENTS’ TOUCHSMART AND IT’S NICE TO HAVE EVERYTHING ALL IN ONE PLACE.

THANKS! WILL HEAD TO TWITTER AND THANK HP FOR THE CHANCE ON MY ACCOUNT @ITSJUSTSTARLA.

i know i probably wont win but i thought i would try anyway. i need this notebook because music is everything to me its my life its the reason i can get up in the morning with a little bit of faith in my eyes and hope in my heart.in my house either the computer is broke or its turned off or somebody else has it . i would like to pursue a music career and this would be an incredible start. nobody from my family that i know of hasn’t done something with their lives they just ended up broke and at dead end jobs if they have one.i just thought i could give it a shot if it doesn’t work out i guess i will just get a regular job like everyone else.the feature that would be the best in my opinion would probably be the quality of the sound also the beat making applications.

  143. Briana Kenno19 Apr 11

I do not want this for myself. As tempting as it would be to keep, I would give this to my dad. He is and has been a dj for a very long time. He has made all of his own equipment by hand. music has been a very big part of my life because of him and every memory i have leads back to music. i wish to give him this computer in hopes that it would simplify his job a little bit and move him forward in time and technology ;o) He is an extremely hard working man and he deserves something like this for all of his hard work.

I am 18yrs doing my 1st yr Accouting and Finance in Middlesex University im writing this comment thru my mobile…im using an old and out dated laptop which is approximately 10yrs old in its poorest position with broken side screen protector…the touch pad also doesnt work…with the oldest windows version which almost creates a mess in my studies as i will have to change the compatability and if i forget i wil be unable to complete my project on time….i neither can download any of my accounting softwares it starts hanging it also doesnt have internet i use an internet usb stick or i hav to go for the wired connection and my dad is so old dated and old fashioned he says that he never even had a laptop and this is far too much for me so either i have to use only this or go without it…and i am a music lover too bt my laptop has less space to store my music files as my dad also uses that laptop to store his office accounts files and salary files and he says music isnt dat important for me and my sister loves to play internet games but my dad is really orthodox he doesnt allow her to play any games and wat wud she do with such an laptop…i feel so ashamed infront of my friendz to carry such an laptop where my friendz have the latest hp dv6…mac book and mac book pro…i would really be lucky to have this laptop as it would make my projects even easier as its got Wifi downloading would be much more easier….also store my musics allow my sister to play games and prove how old dated my dad is an show him the current technology….i really really want to win this laptop

hey. First off, I want to thank you for this. And also, for some reason I can’t take this off of capslock, apparently.

This laptop would be such a blessing. I bought a toshiba back in 2007 and this past december, it slowly stopped working on me. At first, it would freeze up every now and then but now, it won’t even turn on. I would post photos but, I don’t have a computer to do so and I’m a single mom so, I don’t really have any chance to go anywhere to upload any. Right now, I’m posting this from my phone. But, anyways. I’ve been needing a computer so I can find some way to make money. A friend has offered me a job but, I would need a computer to even do the job because it involves working on websites. Right now I can’t afford to buy a computer because I get about 500 dollars a month and most of that goes to my children. I am not totally familiar with all of the programs that come with the beats laptop since I haven’t done any reserach on computers because of my financial situation but, I’m sure I can put hem to good use. Especially if I start working on websites.

Well, I hope I am atleast slightly considered to get this gorgeous laptop but, I can understand if I don’t win. I’m about to follow you on twitter(@punkstie) and facebook then I’ll be on my way to thank hp. And once again, thank you!

I need this laptop. I’m about to enter med school and I need to get something that is speedy and will fit on my lap. Going to school on loans, I’m a little tight on money. I’m grateful for this contest and the opportunity to win the Envy 14.

Right now, what I have is a 4-yr old 17-incher that ran out of warranty ages ago. The love affair has long since been over and I’m now trapped in a deadend relationship. It’s time for a change. Things have gotten too hot lately and not in a good way. The fans in the laptop no longer work and the plastic around the screws has melted and welded the case shut. I use two cooling fans (and I mean FANS) to keep it from overheating. The hinges connecting the screen are broken so I have to jerry-rig a spoon while angling the screen at just angle to keep it open and viewable. I do keep an extra spoon on hand for emergencies (or beat myself on the head with). The main problem is that it shuts down on me randomly, usually in the middle of something important. I don’t know how it detects that I’m doing something important, but paranoia has begun to set in.

    Pics for reference: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/1272/04202011001.jpg
(The red message box in the bottom right is indicating that I have a virus…)

Winning the Envy would allow me to keep my sanity and do things never possible with my old laptop such as taking it to class or on long trips. With the power the Envy packs and its compact size I would be free to travel the world (not of warcraft) and stay connected with friends via Twitter, Facebook and email. The versatility of Beats audio and the bright display are the icing on the cake, adding true versatility. Whether I use this outdoors or take it to a party and DJ, the Envy would be my constant companion.

The absolute best thing about this HP Envy 14? Everything about it, from it’s appearance to its hardware specs, HP has spared no expense to create this masterpiece. It’s the perfect blend of FORM and FUNCTION. Let me spell it out:

    FORM:

F-Finish -> The magnesium alloy base for reduced weight, and aluminum chassis for strength durability, no design detail in this laptop is just about beauty. But what a beauty it is! The sleek gunmetal gray exterior contrasts with the imprinted pattern on the palm rest, making a bold statement.

O-ooh Factor -> Why do you think they call it the Envy? This thing will turn heads, at school, work, or even while you’re sipping your Mint Mocha Chip Frappuccino at Starbucks. If seeing strangers oogle jealously at your gadgets unsettles you, I suggest buying some pepper spray.

R-Right Size -> Around 1 inch thick and at just 5.25 lbs, it’s smaller and lighter than your Organic Chemistry textbook! Welcome to true portability! Take it with you to class, to the airport, to the bathroom, to Katmandu if you fancy! Whereever you go, it will follow!

M-Modern -> The cutting-edge design oozes grace and class (or should I say “glass?”). The edge-to-edge glass on the display, the large multi-touch pad appeal to the inner Trekky in all of us. HP’s answer to the Macbook Pro? Sure, if the Pro was released 2 years from now. The Envy is so ahead of the curve that attempting comparisons to others in its class is pointless.

    FUNCTION:

F-Fast -> Featuring the latest in low-energy Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 is a beast. The 2.66GHz, 3MB L3 Cache can zip through tasks effortlessly. Add to this 4-8 GB’s of RAM and you’re in portable computing heaven.

U-Unchained -> 6 hours if battery life? WOW!! No cords or adapter to chain you down! It may actually last through an entire day of classes! Like the Energizer bunny hopped up on caffiene this will keep on going and going and going!

N-Nice Graphics -> Equipped with the 1GB DDR3 ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650, playing computer games will be easy and fast! Perfect way to wind down after a tough day. Even better? The dedicated card can be turned off for longer battery life! How cool is that?!

C-Customizaton -> With upgrades available on memory, software, security upgrades and battery life, I can truly personalize and protect it.

T-Thunder! -> Packaged with Dr Dre’s approved Beats Audio, this thing will electrify any home media setup! Combining hardware and software, the Envy is an unrivaled music delivery system for its size. Call it an amplifier, call it a mixing board, I just call it awesome!

I-Infinity and beyond! -> The super bright LED Radiance infinity high-definition display screen ads double the brightness and viewability over a regular 14.5″ screen. The great thing is that it means you can use this laptop in places where not possible before…such as on a bright Sunday morning in June.

O-Out-of-this-world -> As if all this wasn’t enough, add 2-in-1 media reader, a webcam, a microphone, Windows 7, bluetooth, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless and you’ve got a laptop that is truly out of this world!

N-Nth degree -> Nothing Left to say, this laptop is amazing to the nth degree! Whoever wins it will be one lucky Guy/gal!

Thank you once again and best of luck to everyone.

Disclaimer: I want to apologize for the excessive use of puns. Also, no kittens were harmed in the making of this entry….however, one did go hungry while I spent the last 3 hours thinking and creating this!

First, thank you for sponsering such a great giveaway. This would be such a blessing to win right now. At 38, I am disabled by arthritis and fibromyalgia. The internet and my computer is the way I entertain myself and keep in contact with family and friends. When I first became disabled and recieved a disability settlement in 2007 I bought what I thought was the best computer I could get, because I knew it had to last a long time. It was an Entertainment PC with all the bells and whistles. I could do everything with my computer!

After awhile my computer started acting up on occasion. Sometimes i would get a black screen which would go away when I restarted it. Sometimes My wireless card wouldn’t work. Occasionally it would just shut down for no reason. I eventually found that this was all due to a faulty Nvidia graphics card and that a class action lawsuit had been filed. My particular computer was one that would be replaced as part of this settlement so I was relieved. UNTIL I filed my claim. I filled out the paperwork and took pictures of the computer. I had the original box showing all the serial numbers, pic of the computer showing all the numbers but my claim was denied because I have no proof of purchase. I have looked everywhere and cannot find the receipt. I tried to contact the now defunct Circuit City where I bought the $1500 computer and they can’t help me. Now the computer won’t even turn on at all. So I have a $1500 paper weight.

I cannot afford a new computer on disability income so I do what i can with my phone or when my kids come over they bring their laptops with them and I jump online. I am moving in a few weeks and it should be the happiest time in my life. I have met the man of my dreams and we are getting married and starting this new wonderful life. But we are moving to a area that neither of us are familiar with and i will be away completely from my family and friends. I am already feeling overwhelmed with loneliness. I don’t know how I am going to keep in touch with them without a computer. I depended on my computer for entertainment like movies and music and I don’t have that now. With my fibro and arthritis I am in pain all the time and that is lonely by itself because it is something that no one else understands.

I truly appreciate this opportunity. Sorry if this posts in all caps. its typing that way for some reason but I don’t have the caps lock on…sorry.

not sure how to post a pic of my paper weight or I would. its a HP DV9310

I do not think you need a sob story about laptops dying or how I only have a desktop computer. The reason I would like to win this laptop, apart from the obvious being free, is the fact that most laptops have crappy sound cards and this one rocks.

  151. Tiana Feng20 Apr 11

    Following as @tianafeng (facebook)

I want this laptop so I can give it away to a friend who’s been using a piece of shit for a couple years because they can’t afford a new PC. I’m canadian so i can’t win, but i want to win for a friend who went back to the us recently. he loves his shitty little hp so maybe he’d really love a new one.
he’s been buying external wireless sticks in replace of the burnt one inside because its cheaper than replacing the laptop. THE ONLY THING THAT CRAP LAPTOP CAN DO RIGHT NOW IS PLAY MUSIC AND THATS WHY HE HAS KEPT IT FOR SO LONG (because that’s the bare minimum he wanted it to do). I think he’d really appreciate an HP Envy computer
with beats audio and if i win it would be a great surprise <3

(ps it's insanely hard to think/type in all caps i feel like i'm yelling)

    Hi,
I am not from u.s but i would like to comment. please pick me, i will bear all the postage charges for the laptop.

currently, i am working in a construction company in project management department. i get very less salary. there are four people in my house, my bother is still pursuing his graduation. i am the only income holder in my house because my father retired because he has got health problems. all the salary that i get is spent and at the end of every month, i dont save very much. if i save some money, that will be spent. this is my financial situation,

currently i am trying to shift my career path to software industry. i got a very great change. currently, our company is offering services to a government steel plant company. in the steel plant company, they are implement sap project systems software. one of the employee told me that he will help me in learning sap project systems. he gave me material but my problem is they wont give me a system as you may know, all the systems in their erp department have confidential files. i have a personal computer with 1gb ram, 240 gb hard disk and some other average specs with dvd writer damaged. my computer is 7 years old.

and buying sap software(which is very costly, thousands of dollars) is out of my reach. buying a laptop is very difficult for me considering my financial condition.

if i carry a laptop to their office, i will get a dummy user name and password, so that i can learn in their department itself.

if i get this laptop, i would be very happy, as i can change my career path to a good path and hopefully my family condition will also improve.

everything i aid here is true, if there is any thing that you want me to ask, i can answer it through mail..
i am not disclosing the personal identity of the employee who is helping me because, in the steel plant company, they dont allow others to enter the erp department, but because of the particular employee generousness, i am able to learn something.

Please help me if you can, help me change my suffering life path.

    Hi,

Thanks for the opportunity to win this. I’m a mommy of 5 kids, 16,12,10,2.5 & 2.5. My oldest is dyslexic and uses the audio book items a lot so this computers audio stuff would be great. I’d love for him to have a good computer he could eventually bring to college.

  155. Samantha20 Apr 11

for christmas a year ago my grandparents got me a dell laptop for me to use when i started college. ever since ive got the computer, ive had problems with it. the hard drive has crashed 3 different times, they sent me a new one, and now this one is having problems. they use all refurbished parts. I cant afford a new one, and with my job, im barely making ends meet as it is. i took a year off from school to focus on my job as a hairstyalist and build my clientele to try and save up, but its alot harder than i thought it was gonna be. theres bills to be paid, and food to be put on the table. a laptop just isnt in my financial means right now. im starting college in september and can really use a good computer. winning this laptop would help me out so much, and would save me a huge expense!

  156. paul haddock20 Apr 11

I have two kids heading off to college, up till now we have used or home desktp. They need portable computing power with web access, a laptop fits the bill. portability is the key feature that we will utilize most.

  157. Julie Jones20 Apr 11

WOW! This is definitely something to shout for. Thank you so much for hosting this giveaway! I’m a music listener and fan but I’m also a photographer so I need a top of the line machine. I love that this laptop is enhanced with HP beats audio. I can already envision myself doing a photo shoot with clients and putting them at ease while playing music on my laptop. In addition to that, it would be so amazing to be able to put together a DVD slideshow with music and impress potential clients with my pictures and the sounds quality coming from the HP envy 14. Time to go day dream some more. Thanks again!

  158. Adam Williams21 Apr 11

On September 28, 2008, my life changed. I wasn’t aware at the time, because all I did was send an e-mail to 13 friends telling them about that cheesy ditty “Hungry Heart” by Bruce Springsteen. That’s all I had intended, to start a music exchange among close friends. Maybe we’d karaoke the songs or make each other a few mixtapes as we pow-wow’ed over e-mail about whatever song was on our minds — new, old, black, white, pop, indie, hip-hop … whatever.

Within weeks I knew we had a good thing going. People asked to add friends and co-workers to our list serve. 13 turned to 23, 23 turned to 40. I kept writing. Two and a half years later, I have jamoftheday.org. It’s small, still, with a few hundred readers receiving the daily Jam between Tumblr followers, Facebookers and the core participants who helped start JotD. But, I never stopped writing: more than 900 Jams have been featured since we started back in ’08. It gets exhausting sometimes, I confess, especially now that I feel obligated to keep up with Pitchfork and Stereogum and Spin — and you — by directing my readers to all the great things you post. But, as I’m sure you know, it’s also really thrilling to share music you love to people who love music.

I’ve had the same trusty MacBook through this whole process. The screen sometimes cuts to black; I have to close it, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. For a few hundred dollars I could have Apple fix this nagging issue, but, I’ve learned tricks to avoid it happening most of the time, so I deal with it. Plus, I’m running out space, anyway (as I’m also sure you know, when you write a music column, it forces you to check out and invest in more music than you ever thought you could own). So, I keep trucking along with this Mac until it’s really unusable. (I should note, by the way, that I have never been paid a penny for jamoftheday.org; it wasn’t the intention of the project to make money, and I don’t have the desire to make it about profiting — not that there’s anything wrong with being paid for doing things you love. Just sayin’.)

So, here I sit, with my aging MacBook, checking all of my favorite music sites and seeing what my readers might enjoy. And now I’m thinking, man, my life would be a whole lot easier if I had that spiffy HP Envy instead of this trust steed of a laptop. Regardless, I intend to keep on bringing new and old Jams to the eyes/ears of people who want to read about/hear them. And I’ll keep directing them to the great things peers like yourself are writing about. And, possibly one day soon, my brand new (or trusty old) laptop will have brought me nearly the amount of success you’ve had with your site. It’s a great goal for me, anyway.

Thanks for doing contests like this. Thanks for sharing music with the world. And thanks for inspiring me to keep doing the same.

    -Adam Williams (founder, jamoftheday.org)

My step daughter told me about this giveaway because she knows I’d like a laptop.

The computer we have right now is aging (like me) and is in the back bedroom and is not very convenient to use.

A notebook would give me freedom by letting me work wherever I am.

My husband has a very hard time getting around even using a walker and it would make it a lot easier for him too.

  162. Laura21 Apr 11

Well my husband and i are going to be taking a round the world trip where we will ultimately end in australia and take advantage of a working holiday visa to try to recoup costs. I am hoping to find a way to work remotely and we would also like to keep a travel blog so that our family and friends can track us and share the experience. i had a netbook, however it hasnt been functioning well and with the aggressive savings plan(we leave in june!) we can’t afford to replace it. this looks to be lightweight enough to carry and would be fantastic for us to use along our trip.
    thanks for the giveaway!
I also follow you on twitter (eurolauras) and am a facebook fan(I dont feel comfortable providing me full name).

  163. josh21 Apr 11

    Hey man,

it looks like there are a lot of people that could really use this thing, and you’re gonna have a hell of a choice to make,..but here’s my spiel.

I am currently shutting down my Fb account, but I will follow you on twitter.

A lot of people say, “music is my life”, music isn’t my life, but music has gotten me through a lot of tough times, including near suicide experiences, breakups, deaths of really close friends, etc.

I have always loved music, and it is a constant in my life, it is Always playing when available, and recently i decided to try and actually make music mylife, or a bigger part of my life. my first step was to create a music blog, and i have been inspired by your blog and a lot of others. As you know, blogging is very time consuming and can even be really frustrating. my blogging experience has been touch and go, highs and lows, but started teetering towards mostly lows when my laptop screen broke.

i currently have it plugged into a desktop monitor. to make things worse the fan broke and the thing over heats and shuts down randomly mid posting and i lose a lot of what i was working on. it is very very frustrating, and a lot of times makes me just want to cancel my internet and quit. If it wasn’t for my love of music i probably would. i help with construction when work is available, but as everyone knows in this economy finding work is tough and with a lot of other bills i really can’t afford a new laptop.

The Hp sounds really nice, and would help my dream of writing about music fulltime for a living, and i promise i will hype the hell out of hp and if i ever get successful i will give back to other people in need.

    peace,

    josh

  164. Tal21 Apr 11

Hey. My name is tal and i winning a hp envy 14 laptop would be amazing since i listen to music whenever i can. also, music simply isn’t good enough if i can’t hear the slightest change in bass or melody. with the hp laptop, and its beats addition, i would be able to listen to music to the point where even when the smallest note is changed i could detect it, and that’s what i want. i’m a musician and i like to listen to progressions of songs. with the envy 14 i could have an exceptional listening experience, and since i listen to music every day, for at least 5 hours, the laptop will be well used.

  165. Jaclyn Reynolds21 Apr 11

My husbanD AND i WOULD LOVE TO GIVE THIS TO OUR 11 YEAR OLD. sHE’S HAD AN OLD DESKTOP COMPUTER BUT THAT DOESN’T WORK NOW. sHE’S HAD A STRESSFUL YEAR WITH DENTAL SURGERIES COMING UP AND IS AN ASPIRING ANIME ARTIST SO THIS WOULD BE A DREAM FOR HER!

  166. LAne21 Apr 11

I have never owned a laptop as I’ve never been able to afford one. I work fulltime and go to school so i think saying that this would help me with school would be an understatement. I come from a big a family so things such as this are something that ive always had to work for instead of just having them thrown at me. The computer that i’m on at the moment was purchased about 4 or 5 years ago from my income tax return at the time, this thing was outdated when i bought it. a new laptop would be a welcome relief and I’m sure whoever you pick will put it to good use.

Oh yeah thanks for the heads up on the Balkans, I’m sure their debut will good.

  167. TJ Hughes22 Apr 11

Being a student, I would really enjoy having this computer to help get work done faster. The screen of my previous laptop was destroyed by gravity (and possibly my cat…). This put me at an inconvenience work-wise. The Beats audio feature would be useful for me, seeing as I often listen to music while studying.
My interest is in making video games and programming, and I have created a small individual development group. The Envy 14 is faster than my previous laptop, and would help produce videogames with better quality and appeal.

    Thank you for the offer.

  168. Dana West22 Apr 11

This is an amazing offer to your readers! Thanks for the opportunity. I have a fairly nice LapTop so I am commenting on behalf of my mom. She has been a child victim advocate for 25 years and tirelessly served our community in every way possible. She is the most giving person I have ever met and never asks for anything in return. ever. Several years ago her home was destroyed in hurricane rita. She lost everything….including her computer. she is currently living with my family until she has enough money to replace her home. she received no assistance to replace it. while being without a home she was also in a terrible car accident and lost her vehicle. she has had a rough few years all the while putting a smile on her face, going to work and helping others everyday in our community. she has an mp3 player that she listens to and without music in her life she would not have made it through the past few years. a computer would be an amazing step for her to regain her independence and feel like she has something that belongs to only her. her work would also greatly benefit from having her own computer instead of using mine. The i5 processor would be great for her to have as well as the light weight of the computer. Of course, she would adore the hp beats to be able to listen to the music that has gotten her through THIS MESS. She is the reason for my love of music. she really deserves this. she deserves independence. Thank you so much!

  169. Jackie L Tweed22 Apr 11

I guess by some standards I am considered to be a senior citizen, but that hasn’t stopped me from loving music. I just found you on FB & Twitter & I like the reviews and what you have to say about the music out there.
I don’t own a laptop, I’ve been banging away at this old desk top for years now. Runs a little slow, kinda like me now, but hangs in there.
I have read a lot of good reviews about the HP envy 14 beats edition.
would love to own one. Would Make this old “rocker” a great mothers day gift.

Seriously, I would like to have this computer because I’m a music snob. And I’m going to throw my laptop off of my rooftop tomorrow morning. I’m really counting on a ‘W’ here.

  172. keith niles22 Apr 11

i’m a poet living in LA, also doing music. i’ve never had a laptop but have been looking. Am currently using a 10 year old desktop on it’s last legs. will spare you a sob story about how crappy it is/how poor i am. but i am a talented/interesting artist who needs a machine that can handle a lot of use – love the fact that this thing is renowned for its sound, dr. dre of course being the ultimate recommendation. you can find my work all over the net by googling me, but i have some real cool audio at this low profile myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/aloofandtheknownothings/music – bet you haven’t heard anything quite like it. at any rate i really love yer blog and hope you keep it going – thanks much for your continued dedication.

Thank you for sponsoring this giveaway. I really need a new computer. I have to type most of this comment in Word and then paste it here quickly before my system messes up. Here is a picture of my screen when I first pulled up this page:

    http://twitter.com/#!/Naya2000/status/61602016396447745

And this is what my homepage looks like everyday:

My computer is on its last leg. I would love to have a new laptop. In order to watch short YouTube videos, I have to click play, then pause it for about 20 minutes while the red bar goes slowly across the screen. If I don’t, the video will play for a couple of seconds pause for a couple of minutes, then resume playing. I recently watched an hour long TV episode online and it took me 3 hours to complete it.

I’m “Following” you on Twitter. Here’s a link to the tweet I sent you in case you missed it in your timeline yesterday:

We’re a homeschool family with an almost 6yo that uses my computer for a lot of his work. I need the computer for blogging and web design but it is hard with a shared computer. I do not make much money so a new computer is out of reach right now.

I am also a music lover who does a weekly music post and has a pair of Dre Beats Solos That I won in the HP “Find Hunter” game YAY! The HP Envy 14 is the Computer I would buy if I could afford a new computer.

I followed on Twitter and FB and left messages for You and HP.

  175. GAIL BROWN22 Apr 11

If I won this I would give it to my 12 year old son because he really wants one and i cannot afford to buy him one!!!!!

Why do I need this cOMPUTER, WELL BECAUSE i DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE ONE. mY hpDV9205 CRASHED ON cHRISTMAS DAY DO TO A DEFECTIVE VIDEO CHIP. i NEED A COMPUTER TO RESTORE MY FAITH IN HP. tHE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NVIDIA HAS BEEN SETTLED, BUT THEIR PROPOSED REPLACEMENT IS A P.O.S. THAT WILL NOT KEEP UP WITH THE DEMANDS OF MY USE. I PRIMARILY USED MY LAPTOP TO DJ FOR LOCAL CHARITY ORGANIZATIONS AT DANCES AND FUND RAISERS, AND I MYSELF CAN NOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE, TO CONTINUE TO DO THESE FREE EVENTS. THE FACT THAT THIS COMPUTER IS DESIGNED FOR MUSIC WILL FIT PERFECTLY WITH MY USE, CONTINUING TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS LIKE RELAY FOR LIFE, SPECIAL OLYMPICS, AND MORE.

I’d love to win a new HP computer. There is no way that I can compete against some of these stories as to why I should win over any of them. I’ll just keep it to facts. My laptop and my husband’s desktop were both purchased in 2003. We’ve tweaked them here and there and they’ve held up admirably. Still…

why haven’t we replaced them? First, we went on a tight budget to finance the adoption of our beautiful daughter. Can’t imagine life without her. In fact, she could use a computer now, too. That took quite a few years. Since then it’s just been a matter of priorities and the same setbacks everyone goes through. Daycare was a whole lot more than we expected. My fIL passed away after a protracted illness. Rather than money, we inheirited debt. That’s been resolved. We’ve also, like everyone else dealt with the ever-rising costs and the devastation of the current economy.

Did I mention that we are both public school teachers? Contrary to popular opinion, our income has been affected by the current economical climate. Did I also mention that we work in the town that was actually called the face of the recession and had an MSNBC reporter embedded for a year to follow along with the story of our community. What little extra funds we’ve had have gone to helping our students.

A new computer for us has been a luxury that is not in the budget. We would love an opportunity to win one from you and HP.

i worked very hard to get into Dwight englewood, a PRIVATE High School in New jersey. Because of my family’s low income, I had to join seeds over this past summer, a program that allows a few kids to attend Dwight englewood on an academic scholarship. it is designed for poorer families, who cannot pay the $20,000 admission price required to attend Dwight Englewood. in addition to the admission price, every student is required to purchase a $2000 fujitsu tablet. My family couldn’t afford this tablet, and it is not covered in the Academic ScholarShip. The school provided me with an older tablet. I was very thankful of this, except that the older model tablet doesn’t run many of the programs my classes require. it is hard to stay ahead in my classes, so i end up taking my notes with paper, and i cannot PARTICIPATE in tablet focused classes. a small group of kids even make fun of the fact that i cannot afford a tablet. a new Hp envy laptop would be extremely helpful in all of my classes. Thank you will for this wonderful OPPORTUNITY. good luck to all other contestants.

I could use this something fierce. I’m currently working on self-funding a PhD studies course overseas that starts in the fall. I have spent the last year working part time to pay for rent, and will be taking out loans to afford my PhD work. This would be super helpful in a) cutting my costs for going overseas because I wouldn’t need to afford a laptop to replace my desktop that I can’t bring & B) let me use the external HD I’ve got all my music files on. It’ll be my portable stereo!

To be honest, i dont really need anything but the life i have already been given. But it would be nice to have a new laptop as my old laptop has screen problems, in which i can only view the top half of my screen. So if i close a browser, i have to guess where to click the mouse if i want to reopen anything along the bottom pane. Its also missing a couple keys as my dog when she was younger decided to jump over it and didnt totally make it. But the HP envy computers are amazing from what i have read. I love listening to music and the ENvy is said to have amazing sound quality and would with all the extra space on the envy, Ill always have music to listen to!

at 46 yrs. of age, i find myself in a situation where i’m shooting
for a second chance at life. my hubby left me for another woman.
this doesn’t do much for my self confidence but i’m determined
not to let it define & defeat me! i work as a housekeeper in a health
care facility but i want to better myself by getting an education!
I just enrolled in community college & I’m hoping to eventually become a special education teacher. i can even take some of my classes on computer! Trouble is, my computer is on it’s last leg.
    it’s a hand-me-down from my friend & it’s operating at a snail’s
pace! I would be ecstatic if i won & my teenage son who loves music
would make good use of the envy as well!

  184. rawdeadfish24 Apr 11

    hey,

i’m a father of 5 that is about to put the first into college and the second is moving up into high school, with only one family computer (a 4 yr old eMachine).

i am a software developer and have actually released a couple free apps fpr the hp palm pre, but don’t have much quality time with a computer to be able to finish off an app for the paid catalog.

The mobility of a nice HP ENVY laptop would help a lot!!

  185. Suzanne Lewis24 Apr 11

I need this computer because my current laptop is on it’s last leg. it’s so slow. I love that the envy is music oriented because i listen to music on my computer daily. I also love that it’s fast, something that my current laptop is not.

I don’t have a chance in hell of winning this after reading just a selection of posts. I’m mainly commenting to boost the total. Hopefully, the person who gets it is real, in need, and grateful. Love your site. Keep on Keeping.

  188. george ashmore24 Apr 11

I would give it to my 10 y o daughter. She has been in advanced classes since 3d grade but has to use her mother’s laptop. She will soon need a real computer for school.

  189. Lauren24 Apr 11

I’m starting a new job with 100% travel soon and this laptop would be extremely helpful in keeping in touch with my (army) boyfriend and family :) Thanks!

  190. Hoa24 Apr 11

I need this notebook, because my daughter is going to college next year and I would love to give this to her as a graduation gift.
My favorite feature is definitely the HD§§ viewing on a 14.5″ (diagonal) HP Brightview Infinity LED.

  191. tiffany25 Apr 11

I just happened to run on this by chance using my cellphone. I couldn’t have seen this at a better time. I am desperate! This laptop can save my college education! Since i don’t have any transportation to college they have put me on ‘academic alert’ since i haven’t been able to make it to my classes regularly. If i was to win this laptop it will save me and my college education! My laptop decided to basically fry on me 2 weeks before finals and isn’t repairable

  192. Margery25 Apr 11

I need this notebook because I want to be able to listen to and truly enjoy the music that I love. 1970′s -1980′s era. I am a single mother who has struggled, sacrificed, pinched pennies, robbed peter to pay paul etc. to get my 21 year old son through college. All of my efforts are paying off as he will graduate memorial day weekend with a batchelors degree. i am poor, exhausted, and broke and could not afford to buy it myself. but after the past four years this would be just for me. something that i could enjoy because i truly love my music and this would take my listening pleasure to a whole new level. I am stressed to the max, and would truly find listening to the sounds that i love so relaxing. Thanks very much for the opportunity to win! and above all just for listening.

  193. katfam25 Apr 11

I would love to have this because my current laptop is a dinosaur and I’d love something fast, because I’m impatient!

  194. Jenn S.25 Apr 11

tHINKING OF GOING BACK TO SCHOOL. tHIS WOULD BE PERFECT. lOVE THE DESIGN AND THE Powerful CPU and graphics ARE A PLUS .

  195. John S.25 Apr 11

Okay, probably not so different from many others here, I have computer problems. My computer tells me that the hard drive is 39% unreadable. What about the other 61%? Unfortunately, that part is not working so well either. I tried the fixes I could find, but no luck. This is especially frustrating because, while I have been out of work, I have been trying to finish a book that editors at some big publishing houses have agreed to take a look at. Completing the book would be a personal achievement for me. Aside from that, I believe the book would be important in showing how race continues to shape identity and family dynamics in the U.S. (for those of all races). Plus, my 11 year old has some zingers!

Needless to say, the HP Envy would be a huge help in finishing the manuscript and organizing my files. I have also planned a final research trip over the summer and the portability of this laptop would be invaluable. This computer would allow me to bring my music; playing music on my computer while I write has always helped me find inspiration. The power and versatility of the HP Envy (not to be too melodramatic about what it would mean for me) would be a much needed kick in the pants across the finish line! Thanks for putting together this fabulous contest.

  196. Steve R.25 Apr 11

WOW! The specs on this hp Envy are spectacular! The perfect name too, I feel the greed in me wanting this, yet would feel guilty regardless of my need if i win it. This slick black machine will certainly make someone ecstatically happy. Nobody here is worthy, i wish the winner to be a humble good person grateful for everything.

  197. Shane D.25 Apr 11

(I’ve probably written too much, so I’d like to apologize ahead of time. But, if you would give this a chance, I’d really appreciate it.)

I am seventeen, and am finding myself in the beginning of the apex of my life. Now I don’t want to sound like a pretentious teenager caught up in the moment, but right now I need to begin building the foundation for the rest of my life. What I do and accomplish right now accounts for everything I’ll do in my future. My family can’t afford much, the job market in Michigan is less than generous, and I’ve exhausted just about every other option. With the way I’ve lead my life thus far, the only way I can get a quality education is by bringing a pen to paper and hoping some college sees potential.

I have been actively campaigning to start creating a career in the music industry. A friend of mine has been pulling strings to drop me into an internship at a local studio, but the prospects of that actually happening are beginning to look grim. I’ve been in about eleven different bands; they’ve all sucked. I’ve collaborated with several local “rap artists”; they’ve all sucked too. I’ve always had a rapt passion in anything music, and I hope to carry that passion into my career. With that said, I’d like to get into a college like Full Sail, but I haven’t got the resources for a scholarship, and money is far too scarce.

Right now, I’ve got a 60$ HP desktop I bought off of a shady figure via Craig’s list. I have seen smoke pillowing out of this machine on more than one occasion. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a solid computer for notepad and Firefox, but that’s about it. I’ve tried Fruity Loops, but as the layers of sound progressed, audio dropout became an inevitability. Sonar is not an option, Ableton Live caused it to ignite, and every other DAW (aside from the prestigious Cakewalk Music Creator 5) refuses to cooperate with my humble computer. Music Creator 5 isn’t bad per se, it’s just too rigid. It was designed to be the little sister to Sonar. Really, it’s like giving a kid a fake cellphone; while the phone doesn’t actually do anything, it’s still looks like a phone. Music Creator can’t do much with my computer. Too many VSTi’s causes dropout. The music notation (as with most DAW’s) is terrible and I’m not one for piano roll. I can’t plug my keyboard into my computer, because it’s offensive or something. I’d like to use proper notation software like Finale or Sibelius, but the system requirements are far too demanding. With this setup, music production isn’t happening.

This hardware endeavor is only the latest in a long line of hand-me-down computers from friends and late family. Though, I have to say that I am making progress; my last computer was built for Windows 95. These dated computers have countlessly caused me to fall victim to system requirements. It feels as if my entire life I’ve been trying to paint a picture, but all I’ve had are broken crayons. And while you can make the best of what you’re given with, there’s only so much you can do with stained wax. I have always been left yearning for more. This yearning leads me to the latest piece of technology I’ve been drooling over: the beautiful HP Envy 14. When I saw the Beats Edition I damn near had a geek-gasm. These machines are amazing. Easily, my favorite feature of the new HP Envy’s would have to be the raw amount of possibilities. There’s just so much that can be done. They’re like these rich pallets of acrylic paints, glosses, pastels, inks, and graphite. Hell, these laptops don’t just use crayons, they use conté (which I am pretty sure is just a different type of crayon). With these tools, I could paint masterpieces over the blank metaphorical canvas that is my life. I get chills just thinking of it.

Now I’d hate to say that I need anything, for fear of sounding materialistic, but the reality remains that I do need something: an opportunity. There’s not much I can prove with this dated hardware and borrowed software. With this contest I see an opportunity of change, and this opportunity isn’t going to take itself. I live in a suburb of Detroit, and I can’t help but feel help but feel depressed when I look around and see all of these people who have grown complacent with the circumstances they’re in. I don’t want to be sitting in the same spot years later, with a dead-end job and still living in the house I grew up in. I’ve always wanted more, and I’ve wanted to build something better. With that HP Envy, so much can be done, and so much can be built.

If you’re reading this now, that means you’ve read the entire thing. For that, thank you. Honestly, it really means a lot. I don’t mean to sound so overbearing (like the quintessential teenager), but I’m just passionate, right? I’ve re-read this a couple times, and I feel like I jump around a lot, but I can’t help it; I get giddy at the thought of that laptop. Ultimately, whether or not I win this contest, I’ve found this pretty awesome blog, and I will definitely be frequenting it more often. Music isn’t just sound or art, it’s expression. Where the hell would we be without expression? No where. We’d have no more worth than the mold spores on the orange peel I can see in my peripheral vision. Thank you, again.

Now I’ve got some orange peels to throw away.

  198. Erica C.25 Apr 11

I’ve always had Hp so this is definitely nice! It’s a computer brand i trust. i’ve had my current computer for 6 years now and it survived with me through college. it’s slow, crashes a lot, and just winds up frustrating me. it would be great to win this just to make regular life more bearable…doing finances, using the internet, emailing family & friends. Thanks!

  199. Bev M25 Apr 11

i had an old laptop (compaq) that died yrs ago. i could really use a new one..

  200. McKim25 Apr 11

I would love to win this laptop for my daughter. She is two weeks away from graduating from college. Because of tight budgets she worked two jobs while attending school full time and still managed to stay on the President’s list. She has been using one of the college’s laptops while she was in school, but I would love for her to have her own. It would help her immensely in her job search as an elementary school teacher, plus help her in her teaching once she obtains a job. While she’s been student teaching she has liked to play calming music while the students are working. This would be great to play those cd’s on.

  201. Kim Benton25 Apr 11

I’VE APPLIED FOR EVERY PART TIME JOB I CAN & NO ONE HAS CALLED. I WORK FULL TIME BUT STILL LIVE PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK. HAD A HEART ATACK 2 YEARS AGo @ 47, MY 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER SOLD HER APPLE MAC BOOK TO HELP ME WITH MEDICATIONS & SHE’S IN COLLEGE. I ENTER SWEEPSTAKES AS A PART TIME JOB YOU COULD SAY, I DID REALLY GOOD & IT HELPED UNTIL THE MAC HAD TO GO. HARD TO DO ON MY PHONE. PLEASE CONSIDER ME & GOD BLESS U FOR GIVING THIS GIFT TO SOMEONE! GOOD LUCK TO ALL

  202. Rosanne M26 Apr 11

Follow you on Twitter-rosannepm and on Facebook Rosanne M and follow @HP_PC. I’d like this computer for my son. He asked me to help him get a computer. He served over 10 years in the mArine’s -3 tours in Iraq and got out just as the economy collapsed. He looked hard for a job almost reaching homelessness while he paid exorbitant amounts in child support. PResently he has finisihed his degree and is in Graduate school, working a full time job but in massive debt from a wife who spent while he was over there. SPends a fortune traveling to see his kids. He like me loves good music.

  203. ferriz26 Apr 11

I am currently a returning college student. In the past 4 years since I took some time off (life happened, bills to be paid, shelter needed… that kind of stuff) things have changed so much! Almost every class has went from being able to get by using the computer lab to everyone typing up notes on computers! It is insane! We used to have a language lab, and now we have to do it on the internet from home! Everything is done online now including submitting my in class assignments. Oh how things change.

Unfortunately for me my current laptop has just went to laptop heaven (or somewhere else…). Looks great on the outside but the inside is probably full of cobwebs and melted parts from what look like the 80s. This means I must use my work provided laptop for any papers, projects, or surfing (like now) . Of course this is frowned upon and who knows what will happen if I get caught.

I am now forced to choose between failing grades or risking my job just because i can not afford even the cheapest second hand replacement computer. I have been warned in the past that the work computer is not a toy, but what can I do? Fail or fired.

A new computer would mean I can keep up with my much younger classmates, graduate, and get a job that will actually pay me enough so I don’t have to choose between food (mmm cup of noodles?) and electricity (yay heat?) or something as essential now a days like a computer. If only I was joking…. being able to pay rent/utilities this month while having some food on the table meant it was a great month!

For me the best feature would be the speed and power. My old laptop was bottom of the line back in 2003. It is fried to pieces now, but I have never had a computer with speed. My (work provided) phone is faster than that thing ever was. I wont lie, I am most excited for the sound quality. I have “window shopped” these computers and the sound is amazing! Music on this thing would be life changing since I am such a music buff. I miss the days when I could afford things like concert tickets, so having my music on this baby would be as close to the real thing as I can get!

The practical side of me says “you want this because of the speed…” but the other part of me says “music music music!” ;)

fb fan. Will be following on twitter once twitter stops being temporarily broken.

  204. Bill26 Apr 11

I could use this notebook because I have 3 dinosaur Desktop PCs that my kids and wife use. I’d like to be able to have a laptop that I could use to help get a better job, help the kids with their school work, and be able to do things that won’t take 20 minutes to open a word document.
I have a lot of music that I’d like to be able to improve sound quality on, many came from tape recordings and they aren’t available on cd.

  205. Pauline M26 Apr 11

As a single mom, I’m always struggling to give my kids the basics in order to excel in school and in life. They has homework, assignments, reports, and projects which require a computer and though we have an old laptop, the memory limits make it difficult to create anything with graphics. having a computer for my kids would be a great benefit on bringing out the creative juices for these projects on any topic!

  206. sarah t26 Apr 11

i would love this to give to my husband for father’s day.he has been out of work for 2 years and is feeling like he is letting his family down.he loves listening to music and collecting new songs but we have a very old p.c. and it just ends up frustrating him.i think having this laptop would help him in many ways he could enjoy his hobby of music again and he could use it to redo his resume and job hunt.also i think getting this on father’s day would lift his spirits and show him we love him no matter what.thanks for the chance to lift my husband’s spirits.

  207. Jeff26 Apr 11

I would like this notebook for my girldfriend as she currently plays the game WoW on an old desktop computer (10 years old-look it up HP Pavillion 310n) that has only a 256MB PCI graphics card and the graphics for the game can be quite heavy on the very slow processor and max RAM of 512MB that the computer has. Lets put it this way, a new notebook for her would certainly make her year. The feature that I like Best is the 1GB of dedicated graphics from the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. This would definitely be a major upgrade for her.

  208. shawna26 Apr 11

I love that it’s super fast!

Getting thechance to win the Ho envy would help me so much in so many ways. Since my old laptop isn’t reliable anymore..I have to drive everywhere to find someone with the right proGram That wIll let Me use their computers. Ho envy is all about quality. I can’t afford A new Laptop…I will be going to lA soon to further my dance training for 3 months… I’ll be sleeping on the floor to saVe money So I can puRsUw my dream…if you can help me fUrther my dreams I would forever be grateful!!!!!!!! -ivan

  210. Devon26 Apr 11

Hey, this giveaway is amazing thing you are doing here, big ups to you bro. Is it too late to make a last minute effort to try to get that badboy? Why would it be perfect for me? I can think of 10,000 reasons but I’ll just name a few to save you from eye paralysis. the emachine i got with my student loan money was the best for 5 years, then it finally executed that big program in the sky….about a year ago. Which Sucks, but everyone has a computer these days so I can stay connected. Economy sucks, cant afford bills let alone a new system, yadda yadda yadda. What else? WEll I live in Wisconsin, we love to party, and that demands LOUD speakers, tight beats, and quality bass. Which if I’m not mistaken is what that monster is renowned for. Walleye love loud music too, and don’t you want us to catch more walleye while drinking our miller lite and kicking back to some dre?

  211. Courtney S26 Apr 11

I could really benefit from this. It would be nice to have a new computer for my kids to be able to do their homework on. The one we have works but it’s old and had so much stuff on it that it runs very slowly. It’s also so outdated and we aren’t able to upload any new programs to help with work (like Power Point). It would be nice to have that option. I hear that these have the BEST sound quality so that would be cool to listen to my music on! (that would be my fave feature.. other than just having a computer that is not as slow as a snail!)

Great looking laptop. If I win the laptop I would give it to my daughter who is going off to college soon. She is obsessed with computer graphics and music and I would like to give her the tools to follow her muse. Thanks.

  214. mark26 Apr 11

Hey will, this is a pretty amazing contest! I could really use the computer… Recently had a split with my girlfriend and I’m moving into a new apartment. not to have a pitty party here or antying – but it would be really cool to start things off right with a new laptop. i currently don’t have a computer and it’s doubtful that i will be able to afford one here soon.

regardless, thanks for setting up this contest and i know for sure some one is going to pumped to get this.

I don’t even have a laptop or notebook or I’d be happy to show you pics- I’ve got a several year old desktop that I have to share with my family- it works but… you know how that goes i am sure.

I hate sounding pathetic but I really really could benefit from this. My husband was medically retired and with my health problems- pretty much all of our disposable and even our living money goes to paying medical bills which will never, ever be paid off unless we win the lottery. We went from pretty darn comfortable with enough insurance to only have to pay 20% of the medical stuff to holy crap they aren’t even paying us enough to pay for cobra so neither of us have insurance for 2 years when we can get medicare and I have chronic Health problems that require at least 2-3 (7-10 day) hospital stays a year. It’s been interesting.

What I would use it for is – keeping up with my blog, using it when i am in the hospital or if I am lucky enough to get to go somewhere, MUSIC- I listen all the time, we have numerous playlists on the blog- check them out some time if you like. my youngest being able to really edit her photos and videos (esp to add music to her movies for her classes), and speed- I crawl along at a snail’s pace now, and it is okay, trying hard not to complain that we have to share etc but a laptop- an uber awesome one that would have room for the music i love in an enhanced experience and the capabilities the envy has would be a gigantic blessing right now and would benefit not just me but my entire family, because I share. And it would be portable. I could take it with me places. did I mention I’ve always been tied to a desktop and that’s a feature i would (almost) kill for?

And not just that- It would let my husband, who is home all the freakin’ time WAY before he should be- have this one to do his facebook and trivia stuff and stay out of my hair and quit breathing down my neck every five dang minutes wondering if i am done and it is his turn yet and in turn that would save my sanity.

Sorry, we’re really lame and don’t have a really great story to share with you, wish i did. Thanks so much for the chance.

MY boyfriend plays in bands and lost some of his music on his old computer. It was really hard for him because he also lost music from his best friend who passed away shortly after recording.I think the features ofthe HP ENVY LAPTOP WOULD BE PERFECT FOR HIM TO START OVER AND ALSO TRANSFER SOME OF THE MUSIC THAT WAS SAVED.I KNOW IT WOULD CHEER HIM UP:)
    THANKS!!

I’ve actually never owned a notebook and with money being so tight i always put off buying one. i am currently in school and desperately need one to help with my studies. i usually take my work computer home but am very limited to what i can do. i really do love music so any feature that could let me have an large music library would be awesome.

I’d love to win the hp envy laptop to use it as the grand prize in the raffle for Undy 5000 – dallas team, chisum crew. We’re running to raise awareness and money for a cure for colon cancer in Daddy’s honor and memory. My baby sis and I work so hard nearly year round to get sponsors, prizes and the like to get things set up for our team. Last year I won an iPad which I donated as the grand prize but so far this year I haven’t gotten anything donated big enough or won anything big enough to constitute a grand prize. I keep hoping and praying, but so far, nothing…

Love the site! I pay the bills working as a server in a retirement community but i’m also taking freelance (emphasis on the “free”) writing jobs. I’m hoping to build up my resume to become a full time writer. I’m saving to get a laptop but it’s taking some time. during that time my windows xp 6 year old computer has been slowing dying inside and out. i’ve managed to keep the software on life support and i’ve kept some free storage space available by constantly clearing out old songs and videos (sad). The hardware is a little tougher. the battery doesn’t work and new ones seem to die out so fast that i’ve surrendered to the wire. also a couple parts are being held up by duct tape. (i’d show you a pic, but my camera is also not working, seriously). I’d love it if you could help but if not I shall persevere and remain a loyal fan :D

this is an amazing contest i need a computer because i am currently enrolled in community college and i need a computer capable of running the features and programs i need i am also an aspiring rapper but i have no equipment i write frequently but i have nothing to make beats with or record im sure that it will aid me and you might just see me on tv one day if that ever happens i swear i will accredit you for my partial success thank you for taking the time to read this please consider me this computer will help me in more ways than one whether its getting my degree or getting famous or both it will be much appreciated once again thank you for considering me

When the economy stopped I lost almost 50% of my income with hours being cut back. So, I took a leap of faith and started my own company. me and one employee take turns using our one computer to run an internet marketing company. I know we could grow and be a success (the AMerican dream) if we could both be working at the same time. PS I follow you on twitter

  227. pAUL26 Apr 11

    HI WILL,

jUST WANTED TO FIRST OFF SAY THANK YOU FOR GIVING AWAY THE COMPUTER.
i DON’T WANT TO GIVE A WHOLE SOB STORY CAUSE i KNOW THERE’S A LOT OF PEOPLE STRUGGLING IN THESE TIMES AND PROBABLY HAVE IT TOUGHER THAN i DO. i’M A tv PRODUCTION PERSON AND HAVE BEEN UNEMPLOYED FOR THE PAST 2 1/2 YEARS. aS YOU PROBABLY KNOW SINCE YOU’RE TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY BUT THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY IS IN A TERRIBLY DIFFICULT TIME NOW WITH CUTBACKS Occurring EVERYWHERE. I’d love to win the computer because it would allow me better opportunity to take on freelance editing projects with the use of a high end media friendly computer. I also would like to start a music blog but have always been reluctant to start my own blog afraid that nobody cares what I think about music. But blogs like your’s and a few others have shown that if you care about the music and are passionate about it, doesn’t really matter what others say about you or the music you like. I’ve been putting playlists together for friends and family for over 5 years and I think it’s time for me to share them with the blogosphere. I believe with this computer I think I’d have just the impetus to start doing that. Sorry for the long message but thanks again for the contest and your blog. keep bringing that passion for music and good luck in all your future endeavors.

  228. Chris Lava26 Apr 11

This computer will be the replacement for my laptop, right now i have an aging dell and would love for this to be the replacement. music has always been a passion of mine, from dj-ing to even some producing this computer will help me to explore my love of music. Especially since it’s loaded with beats :) I love the beats collection and would be so ecstatic to have it!!! being a college student in a dim economy it’s really hard to upgrade computers and this would be the best opportunity. I’ve been eying up this computer since it came out but never had the bills to get it.

  229. Cox26 Apr 11

my laptop recently broke and i can’t afford a new one. This one has everything i need and is a sickk LAPTOP! I wish this could be mine! this is awesome that you’re giving this away!

  230. Patrick dowling26 Apr 11

I would like to recieve this because music is what i am pursuing as a carreer. the laptop would help me pursue this. also! i do not have a computer and i actually kinda mooch off of other people for computers and laptops hahahaaaa! thank you for reading the comment and i hope you pick me :] but if you dont i understand!

  231. Zach26 Apr 11

I’ll be in Germany next year teaching English to high schoolers. Needless to say, I’ll be connecting with my family a lot back home, so Mesh on Windows Live would be great in sending/synching photos to my parent’s computer back home. It’d also be great to webchat with them using the computer’s webcam. Travelling around Europe, I’ll be depending on wireless a lot to keep up with Music News (My main focus in the classroom will be discussing music as the “universal Language”); unfortunately, my computer is so old that it overheats really bad when I need to use the wireless (parts of the plastic have melted off!)…Regardless, it’s great that you’re giving this away, and it would greatly help in spreading my passion for music internationally in the classroom!

  232. Katie S.26 Apr 11

I would very much like to win because my hubby and I are currently sharing a 7 year old dog of a laptop that needs to be plugged in all the time because the battery only lasts for about 2 minutes when its not plugged in. Its actually kind of ironic, computers are supposed to make life faster, easier, and better… that thing makes life more of a hassle, slower, and more annoying! Granted, we’d have to fight over who gets the new lappy and who gets stuck with the old one if i win, but right now thats the least of my worries :) (the comment box is all in caps for some reason – its not me… maybe its my laptop!)

Hey! First of all I wanted to thank you for this great opportunity! =) and I’m really hoping to have fun with my entry and make the best of it.

I recently tried making my own computer out of desperation…but I seem to be having some trouble with it, for some reason it won’t switch on. =/

I’m entering this giveaway/contest from a borrowed laptop, I’d like to start by saying I’ve never owned a computer of my own in my life…neither has there been a computer to share in my home. Yes, I’m 24, I live in this amazing technological era and I’ve never had a computer. It’s always been on the very top of my birthday and Christmas lists…even when I still thought Santa and his reindeer soared through the night sky…but it never materialized.
As I grew up I began discovering the writer in me, and getting more in touch with this creative side developing in me. I always write by hand and my right hand is so crippled with carpel tunnel that I wish I could switch hands. Sometimes I let great ideas slip my mind just because I dread what the process of passing all my writing from paper to screen would be. I’ve been messing around with more than a few book ideas since I was about 17, still working on them. My biggest wish would be to have a laptop nearby and be able to write freely, you know? Whether it be in the early hours, rooster cock-a-doodling in the distance or throughout lonely moonlit hours. In the confinement of my room (which I don’t even have right now) or just when an idea hits on the run…that’s why a trusty Intel-equipped, aluminum-and-magnesium-(and-plastic) companion would come in handy!

I was born in California, moved around a lot as a kid and right around my early teen years I moved to Lima, Peru South America. In Peru they have cybercafes on every other block…they are pretty dingy to be honest but that’s where I’ve been going to use computers my whole life! Even if it’s just to surf the net, look up information for school work, talk to friends on MSN or TRY to write…I say try because people that go to cybercafes are either really economically challenged individuals, tourists or inclined to engage in appropriate activities. Each person has their own music playing or are talking on the phone rudely, so you can’t really concentrate. I’ve come to so dread going to these places. I’ve gone through very long periods of time without even checking my email just to avoid entering one of these places. It was also really hard whenever I had to do a school paper, I’ve had to pass up some job opportunities where it was indispensable to have computer access and just communicating in general has been really hard…specially when the love of my life up and moved to England, with the time differences and the public computer use I mean seriously? OMG. It’s also just very embarrassing not to be part of the 21st century.

As of late I finally took a blind leap towards the future: I decided it was time for me to make my move and make some changes. With a ticket in hand, 170 lbs of luggage, $40 in my pocket (which were all of my savings), I jumped on a plane to DC! I had talked to a friend who was living here and she had offered me the couch in the living room of the house she herself rents a room in. Back in Peru you can’t really make much money, minimum wage is way low and it’s just me and my mother, no father, no siblings, no outside help. My mother and grandmother spent everything they had to get me here. Everything was going fine, I mean as fine can go crashing on a couch and feverishly job hunting without yet purchasing a phone of my own and having my worrisome mother gasping for air without hearing from me for days on end until I could grab hold of a phone. Having an awesome, perfectly functional laptop by my side would give me more independence and I wouldn’t have to rely on others this much or put my mom through the 9th circle of hell. Things were flowing okay until the landlord flipped due to fact he didn’t like my peace-sign polka-dotted blanket hanging on the window. I was kicked me to the curb…having nowhere to turn and practically no one to call – I couldn’t have felt more lost and devastated! Can you imagine being somewhere in Maryland without any form of personal communication, I don’t scare easily, but fear took over my emotions and somewhere along the ordeal I thought I’d end up at a woman’s shelter. Luckily I do have an old friend from school I haven’t talked to in a while like an hour away from my couch exile spot…and well yet again if I could have logged on to something, things would have been much easier and quicker…but I prevailed, got reach of him and even as I write away on this grand-shooting-for-the-stars-attempt to finally hold a computer I can call mine in my hands, I am waiting for him to pick me up still not even really knowing where or when I’ll have a place to sleep again.

For now I will just sit back and enjoy the serenity of being able to communicate with my mom, write peacefully and listen to some tunes of my liking and personal choice on this alien laptop I have invaded for a couple of hours…ever wishing to finally own my very first computer!

I can continue on about the features I would use most on the laptop – the fast Core-i processor, the beats audio to play the soundtrack that is always present in my mind, the oodles of memory and storage, awesome video card, its convenient size (especially for a transient entrepreneur like me) and great build quality. But honestly it’s much more than that, this laptop would be my saving grace and a hope for a better future.

I can see many worthy entries here, and I want to wish the best of luck to all of them. You said you wanted to give the HP envy laptop to a person you thought needed it, and I’m grateful to be in consideration. Thank you.

I’d love to win this for my sister. she is a single mother of two who has had a rough go of things the last few years. she was unemployed for a long time and has recently found work, though it is unfulfilling. she shares an outmoded desktop computer with her son, so a new computer could really help her in searching for new jobs.

thanks for hosting this giveaway. i know the decision will be difficult.

  236. Renee C.26 Apr 11

Hmmm I wonder how Dre would feel about me listening to audiobooks on this fine piece of machinery? Ha. I’m a huge fan of the written word, books AND lyrics, so this computer would be doubly awesome for me and my family (yes I would share with my dear little brothers). We’re a five person household so the one desktop we have now isn’t cuttin’ it, plus it’s 4 years old so it’s sllllllllooow so the superfastness of this system is another definite plus!

Thank You for the opportunity! :-)

I would love to win this laptop! The laptop I used over four years ago years died a few months ago. The hinges came apart, then the wireless stopped working, then the operating system died. Don’t get me wrong, it held up well throughout the years because I used it so much. These are two pictures I took of it today http://yfrog.com/gy3jfykj and http://yfrog.com/h68rvpaj . I have never bought a new laptop for myself so I would be more than grateful to you and HP to have a new working one. I have a musical background and have played classical music on violin and piano since I was four. In addition, I work as an assistant for a musician. I could truly use this laptop to help with their business and with clients. In addition, this laptop would be an asset for me to do graphic design work on. I love the fact that it is rated well which shows it is made with quality and care. I love the little things about it, right down to the “red backlight keyboard.” This is truly the laptop to have for those in the music industry!
Thanks so much. I follow your twitter as well as HP_PC (@maplelexus). I don’t use Facebook, so I was unable to become a “like”. I hope I am still eligible to enter. I would love the opportunity to win this amazing machine. Thanks so much.

I currently have 4 computers in my house. The newest computer is a laptop I got as a graduation present when I graduated from College in 2005. The other computers? Well the second best computer is a 733mhz PIII computer, and the last two are both 550mhz PIII computers. The pathetic thing is that I work on computers for a living at a local college and we are disposing of better computers than I have in my own house.

  240. Stefano Pinti27 Apr 11

My name is Stefano Pinti, and this fall I will be attending Drexel University in Philadelphia to study computer science with a concentration in game design.

I was born with a form of high functioning autism known as Asperger’s Syndrome. Although I am indeed high functioning, my autism makes me very awkward in social situations, which has made high school a very difficult experience for me. Nevertheless, I succeeded academically in high school, and received a one third scholarship to Drexel. However, the university in question is very expensive, and even with said scholarship the combination of tuition and room/board will cost my family and I over thirty thousand dollars a year.

Since you are obviously very musically inclined, you should also know that I have an insatiable taste for punk music, especially hardcore. This came about when I was about eight years old; it was around this time that I first heard Police Truck by the Dead Kennedys in the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater for the Playstation. I guess you can say that this is where the two biggest passions of my life (video games and punk music) became intertwined. I assure you that to this day I think Jello Biafra and company kicks major ass, and in the following years I proceeded to discover more great bands such as Bad Religion, Minor Threat, and Bad Brains. My autism makes it very hard to sit still, so I suppose I really like hardcore punk a lot because it constantly keeps you moving.

Now that you know a little about myself, I guess I should explain why I am telling you all of this.

I desperately need this laptop for my studies. Drexel University gives very specific requirements for laptop computers, which it lists at:

    http://www.drexel.edu/irt/computers/buyersGuide/

The HP Envy 14 you are offering matches, and in some cases exceeds, the specifications given by the university. Of particular importance are two features:

    1. The video card in this machine is excellent, especially for a laptop. Since my concentration is in game design and development, I will be working with graphics on a constant basis, which makes this of huge importance to me.

    2. As mentioned above, I love punk music. When you have the entire
discography of a good number punk bands, including the entire thirty year span of Bad Religion, as I do, you need a lot of space. Combine that with all of my school work (game development takes up an enormous amount of space), and the Envy’s 750GB hard drive becomes enormously useful for me.

This is hugely important for me, however, because it will make a difference in regards to cost. As I mentioned above, the university I will be attending is normally insanely expensive, and I am only in a slightly better situation because of my scholarship. My father came to the United States from Italy in his late teens with very little, and he managed to make a good life for himself despite speaking little English and not having a high school education. Neither of my parents have a college degree. While we are a middle class family, things have been tight for us in the wake of the recession. Paying for school will be tough for my family and I, and not having to spend money on a laptop means I could use the money I save on other exspenses, such as textbooks.

Can you help this autistic Italian computer nerd with a taste for hardcore punk out?

  241. patricia27 Apr 11

I am a college student in need of a computer. This computer has many great features.

  242. Auriette27 Apr 11

I have a serviceable laptop, but it’s not powerful enough to do graphic design, which is something I really need to be able to do at home. If I am selected as the winner, I’ll give my old laptop to my in-laws, who don’t have a computer at all. Your choice would make two households very happy.

Thank you.
