[new] Baby Baby – Breakin

By Will, April 22nd 2011

Baby Babty’s “Fire!” still fires me up. I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for some new material, and the rock gods have answered me back. Baby Baby have given us a new song from their new album, Money, to feast on.

“Breakin” is an electric track that’s a fusion of a punk mindset that has intermingled with dance rock grooves. Almost like a (slightly) happier The Blood Brothers trying to make you dance. Yeah, lets go with that.

Money will be released May 24th via Gospel of Rhythm Recordings.

Blackbird Blackbird – Overboard

By Will, April 22nd 2011

Blackbird Blackbird is hard at work on his new album, Erasers (that’s the album art above). We can’t wait to hear it.

New song “Overboard” plays off as a perfect teaser. Mikey leads us on a journey to the new sounds and ideas that he will showcase on Eraser, but he’s not revealing it in it’s entirety just yet. “Overboard” is a light yet effective song that is the perfect length. I’m already dying to hear more.

Eraser will feature about 10-12 songs, and will be released late this summer.

Denison Witmer’s new album The Ones Who Wait is coming out next week via Mono vs. Stereo Records. Here’s “Brooklyn With Your Highest Wall” a great offering from it. It’s a comfortable confession that reminds me a bit of Cass McCombs. Light, yet strong, vocals that do well over the light acoustic tone that he sets.

This is music is it’s most honest form. Some people take it for granted, but not Mr. Witmer.

While your at it, grab a fabulous live cover of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” that he did:

[new] Beastie Boys – Say It (Surprise At MSG Tomorrow?)

By Will, April 22nd 2011 — with 1 comment

Some Kind Of Awesome has as stream of another Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 track, “Say It”. According to SKOA, they snuck it in at the end of their video for Fight For Your Right Revisited video.

It has a classic Beastie Boys sound to it, with dirty guitar riffs demanding some grunge ridden raps from the boys. Check it out below:

Say It by Beastie Boys

Today the band hinted at a possible early surprise at Madison Square Garden tomorrow at 10:30 AM. They posted a link to a live stream titled “Beaste Boys Make Some Noise MSG” along with “This SAT 10:35AM EST – Listen, Listen, Listen to the Beat Box”.

Not sure what to make out of this just yet, but be sure to stay tuned to Beastieboys.com

Pink Frost – The Sun

By Will, April 22nd 2011 — with 1 comment

Pink Frost’s “The Sun” is an attempt to hit a star glazing glide that should tale them full on to the sun. Well maybe not literally. But it’s a song that aims high and dreams big. It’s full on shoegaze glory. And it can be yours for free.

Shearwater Sign To Sub Pop

By Will, April 22nd 2011

Shearwater are the latest signing to Sub Pop’s ever expanding roster. Frontman Jonathan Meiburg says that their next album can be expected in early 2012, and it will be a lot different from their past material.

I’ve always enjoyed what I’ve heard from Shearwater, and I can only expect them to expand their sound even more. Exciting news, indeed. For more on the signing, head to Sub Pop.

The Sundelles – Kiss The Coast

By Will, April 21st 2011 — with 1 comment

Last month, The Sundelles released their debut album, Georgia Swan. I want to share with you the can’t miss cut, “Kiss The Coast”. It’s an incredibly likeable jam that aims to highlights the greatness of a strong vocal melody. The Sundelles bath their sound in welcoming reverb that creates a sunny daydream atmosphere that I’m longing for right now.

I’m ready for summer, and “Kiss The Coast” really speaks for that truth.

Joe Cave – Mrs Violet

By Will, April 21st 2011 — with 2 comments

Totally blown away by how incredible this song “Mrs Violet” is. It comes from 23 year old London native Joe Cave. Sometimes all you need to make a great song is an astonishing voice paired with emotive lyrics. “Mrs Violet” is that and much, much, more.

Joe Cave has an incredible voice that I would go as far as sounding a fair bit like Jeff Buckley. Each breath is a whisper of layered emotion that will break into your innermost core. He has depth, soul, and passion that’s seriously lacking in music these days.

The talent is clearly there. Don’t know how this guy isn’t signed yet. At only 23 years old, Joe is definitely worth a watch. He has a voice, and it certainly deserves to be heard by a much wider audience.

Mrs Violet:

Joe is attempting to record 99 songs this year. Follow him along his journey at his tumblr.
