[Listen] Flaming Lips Gummy Skull Songs

By Will, April 21st 2011 — with 2 comments

The Flaming Lips don’t like to stick towards traditional methods. Especially on 4/20. Yesterday at exactly 4:20, Wayne Coyne personally delivered a special treat to his local record store, Oklahoma’s Guestroom Records. He delivered five gummy skulls that contained a usb with four new songs from The Flaming Lips. The skull was also edible, consisting of edible gummy material. How cool is that? You can find a more detailed explanation of the whole situation over at Psych Explorations of the Future Heart.

Below you can stream all four of the songs that were included in the USB: “Drug Chart”, “In Our Bodies Out of Our Heads”, “Walk With Me”, and “Hillary’s Time Machine Machine”. Very Flaming Lips.

Black Light Dinner Party – Older Together

By Will, April 21st 2011 — with 1 comment

Black Light Dinner Party. Get familiar with that name. It will be a name that you’ll be seeing around a lot more frequently in the future.

The band is a team of four produces, based in three cities, completing nearly two years of collaboration to create the sound found on the incredible single “Older Together”. It’s a song that you will love immediately. The chilled vocals will have you mesmerized, while the rest of the band freezes you with electronic interplay that’s becoming an east coast trademark. Calling it catchy is a fair understatement.

This song hits you like a cool summer breeze. It’s hypnotic in every sense of the word. I feel cooler every time I hit repeat. This song challenges every other song out there for the summer anthem of 2011, and this is Black Light Dinner Party’s first song. How’s that for a debut. Yeah, you’re damn right it’s impressive.

[music video] Tom Vek – A Chore

By Will, April 21st 2011

Tom Vek hasn’t released an album since his 2005 debut, We Have Sound. He completely disappeared from the spotlight, leaving his fans wanting more. That all changes on June 7th when Vek releases his new album, Leisure Seizure.

After nearly five years of absence Vek has delivered a new single in the form of “A Chore”, a masterfully crafted electronic jam that should have all Vek fans salivating. It sounds like the work of someone who has been carefully preparing a worthy follow up that is bound to reward your patience.

Band To Watch: Blouse

By Will, April 21st 2011

I’m going through my inbox and discovering some wonderful stuff. Such as the band Blouse, who were recommended to me by a reader. They’re a three piece from Portland, Oregon who have released a couple of incredible singles.

The first single “Shadow” was released by Sub Pop. It was included on their free Terminal Sales Vol. 4: Please to Enjoy compilation.

The second single is “Into Black” which is the true standout in my mind. It features a catchy guitar riff and a light atmosphere that takes me from the restraints of reality. It almost sounds like Beach House with an extra jolt. It’s a dreamy song that I don’t mind getting lost in for three and a half minutes. The only bad part of the song is that it has to end.

“Into Black” was released on Captured Tracks earlier this year. You can still grab a copy right now.

Take a listen it below, and get lost in their world:

Head to their bandcamp page to hear their other material.

Beastie Boys music video for “Make Some Noise” is five minutes taken from the short film Fight for Your Right Revisited. It features an absolutely insane amount of great actors. You truly have to see it for yourself. It’s an awesome watch.

[video] Neon Indian – Heart: Attack

By Will, April 20th 2011 — with 1 comment

Neon Indian is preparing to release his 2nd album this fall. He recorded most of it in Helsinki during the winter, and he’s currently finishing it up in New York. Our first taste of the album comes in the form of the short video clip, “Heart: Attack”. It’s titled after the first part of a three part instrumental that will be on the album. It’s sounding good. Director Sean Lopez shot the film.

Take a peak at “Heart: Attack”:

It saddens me to report that Gerard Smith, bassist of TV On The Radio, has passed away. The band had previously made their fans aware that Smith was battling lung cancer. Unfortunately Gerard passed away this morning.

The band posted the following message on their website:

My thoughts and prayers go out to Gerard Smith, his family, and TV On The Radio.

Ernest Greene a.k.a. Washed Out has finally made the jump to a big name label. Sub Pop has announced that Washed Out is the latest addition to their amazing roster. They will release his debut full length LP, Within And Without, on July 12th. It will be one of the best albums to chill with this summer.

Within And Without features 8 new songs, as well as “You And I” which was released by the Adult Swim Singles Project last year. The record was recorded with Ben Allen and will be released by World Wide Records, a division within Sub Pop.
