The Hopelessly Devoted – Radio Radio

By Will, April 20th 2011 — with 1 comment

The Hopelessly Devoted is the 50s-inspired project of Ian Webber and his bandmates. The L.A. band recently released their debut album, Introducing… The Hopelessly Devoted.

The album features 14 all new original songs such as “Radio Radio” that sound like nothing that came from this generation. The band creates old fashioned rock and roll that literally sounds like it was taken from the 1950′s. It’s quite incredible. You’ll hear all kinds of influences from back in the day in the musical DNA of The Hopelessly Devoted. One listen to “Radio Radio” and their band name will make much more sense.

I got the ok from Ian to share “Radio Radio with you. Take a listen:

Great stuff, right? Be sure to take a listen to the entire debut LP. It’s streaming over at bandcamp. The Hopelessly Devoted is the type of band that you can impress your friends with. Hell, you can even impress you parents with this.

What’s not to love?

Galleries – Darkness Coming

By Will, April 20th 2011 — with 3 comments

If you like big stadium inspired rock and roll, then Galleries are your guys. They’re a four piece from Glasgow, Scotland who naturally lean towards a big stadium ready sound. Crystal clear vocals and mountain sized ambition create a weightless feeling that you can only get from powerful music. This is the type of music that would play during that big epic moment of a film, right before the resolution. Darkness may be coming, but not while this song lights the way.

This is a very promising single that marks Galleries as a band that you should keep a watchful eye on.

Snowmine – Beast in Air, Beast in Water

By Will, April 20th 2011 — with 4 comments

“Beast in Air, Beast in Water” is a song from Brooklyn band Snowmine that has crept into my playlist with relative ease. With a mesmerizing chorus that sounds like it’s coming from a haunted forest, it has me hooked. Gorgeous vocal harmonies stand tall to create a memorable chorus that will make you feel invincible.

It’s dramatic pop with a twist. Spacey sounds and vocals will take you wherever you imagination lets you. It plays as a soundtrack for whatever you see in your minds eye. Feelings of pure magic.

“Beast in Air, Beast in Water” is taken from the bands debut album, Laminate Pet Animal, which they’re self releasing on May 3rd. The band will play an album release show May 14th at Pianos.

James Kelly Pitts – Kettle

By Will, April 19th 2011 — with 5 comments

Good music captures the essence of the human soul in its sound, lyrical content, and overall feeling. Immediately you are able to feel something. It might be melancholy, sadness, or joy. It could cause you to recall a previous memory of a love lost, or a special time that seems centuries ago. Either way, it does something for you emotionally.

This is exactly what I’m experiencing with James Kelly Pitts‘ incredible song, “Kettle”.

James Kelly Pitts is an upcoming folk artist from Seattle, Washington. Growing up, James experienced a lot of change, as he was constantly moving as a son of a military man. His unique life experiences are reflected in “Kettle”. It takes you alongside James as he reflects upon his journeys, and he invites you to join him on his current one.

Take a chance, “Kettle” will blow you away:

It’s set to appear on James’ debut album, due out this summer.

In Tall Buildings – Warm Rock

By Will, April 19th 2011

In Tall Buildings is Chicago musician Erik Hall. He released a rad two song single for Record Store Day. Side a features a cover of fellow Chicago band Cains and Abels’ “Warm Rock”. Side b features a remix of “The Way To A Monster’s Lair”, a song from his 2010 debut, In Tall Buildings.

Take a listen to both honest offerings below:

Hey Rosetta! – Yer Spring

By Will, April 19th 2011 — with 1 comment

Canadian “orchestral indie-rockers” Hey Rosetta! have caught my ear with their inspiring tune “Yer Spring”. If you think music is lacking passion or true human emotion, Hey Rosetta! will prove you dead wrong. “Yer Spring” sounds as uplifting as the band intended it to be. It’s music video perfectly captures this feeling. Check that out below:

“Yer Spring” is taken from their new album Seeds, which was released in February. You should also check out a fantastic live performance of “Yer Spring” that should seal the deal on whether or not you want to see this band live:

Hey Rosetta! are playing the Mercury Lounge on May 19th. See you there?

[new] The National – Exile Vilify

By Will, April 19th 2011 — with 1 comment

Great bands are able to constantly put out new material that will continue to amaze you just as much as their albums do. The National are one of these bands. It seems like they have a never ending well of material that is just waiting to wow the world.

Today they released, “Exile Vilify”, a new song put towards the soundtrack for the videogame Portal 2. Random, I know, but all that I’m concerned about is the song. Truthfully, I’m blown away. This song is gorgeous. It’s composition takes me away from all my daily concerns. Matt Berninger and the rest of the band guide you towards a comfortable setting in your mind that you can enjoy at any time. To me, that’s what “Exile Vilify” means.

Jangula @ Pianos (4/18/2011)

By Will, April 19th 2011 — with 6 comments

Jangula have quickly become one of my most listened to new acts. Their songs are true, honest, displays of sharply executed rock. Their live mindset is dedicated to feel good jams that will have everyone dancing. That’s just what they did last night at Pianos.

The Brooklyn 4 piece absolutely bring it live. They have the sound and confidence of a band that’s been at it for years. Jangula’s energy hit you square in the face and you better start dancing, or you’re gonna feel real stupid. Big fat bass lines, sharp guitars, fast controlled drumming and the eclectic sounds of the QChord combine to make Jangula’s insane live arsenal.

For a band that’s at a relatively early stage of the career, they have a rock solid following. A lot of the crowd were singing the songs right back and dancing to them proudly. They’ve been in on the Jangula secret for a while, and they’re proud to let you know it.

All the songs from Jangula’s impressive debut 4 song EP shined live. They played some new songs, as well as a rockin’ cover of The Ronettes classic “Be My Baby” (video of that posted below). The band really should consider covering their version of it. It was a fresh take on the song that was most importantly, a lot of fun, just like the bands show. It’s a welcoming experience that will make your night that much better. Whether the songs are new or familiar to you, you’ll have a good time.

Jangula should be a band that you’re watching intently over the next few months. Something about them has really caught my attention, and they shouldn’t go unnoticed. They will be back in NYC on May 25th to play a free show at Brooklyn Bowl. Mark your calenders.

Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks (The Knocks Remix)

By Will, April 18th 2011 — with 2 comments

The Knocks get the honor of releasing the first official remix of Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”. The original is a perfect representation of the feel good sensation that summer brings us. If your going to remix a song like that, you better find a way to make it sound fresh, in a new light.

This remix does just that. Hat tip to The Knocks, this ain’t half bad, at all.

If you purchased Radiohead’s The King Of Limbs before today, Radiohead has decided to grace you with a free download of their Record Store Day exclusive singles: “Supercollider/The Butcher” (stream them here).

The limited vinyl release will make it’s way to the U.S. on June 14. So don’t go overpaying on ebay. A little patience is key. So if you purchases the album and weren’t aware that these tracks are waiting for you, now you now.

The songs also came with a good old fashioned message from the band:
