Big Deal – Talk

By Will, April 18th 2011 — with 1 comment

Last October I introduced a band called Big Deal to you guys. I truly believe that they’re ones to keep an eye at. The bands very own KC has allowed me to stream the newly recorded version of their song “Talk”, and I am honored to do so.

It’s the bands current single in the U.K. via Moshi Moshi. Their debut album will follow this July.

Take a listen of the newly recorded version of Talk below:

Is Tropical – The Greeks

By Will, April 18th 2011 — with 1 comment

Is Tropical first caught my ear last year with the catchy song “When O’ When”. They fell off my radar for a bit, but it’s safe to say they are back. June 13th will see the release of their debut album, Native To, via Kitsuné/Cooperative Music/Downtown Records.

The band is allowing Native To’s first single, “The Greeks”, to be downloaded for the price of an e-mail. It’s a bass heavy post-punk dance drank that will get you moving. It has a futuristic vibe to it that reminds me a bit of Klaxons.

Is Tropical are pushing the idea of electronic rock forward more and more. Hopefully the rest of Native To continues this trend.

The Kick – Rubicon

By Will, April 18th 2011

Sweedish pop mind The Kick has released a music video for their pop effort “Rubicon”. It’s a dreamy confession with traces of a pop mindset etched in the bands colorful sound.

It should appear on the bands next album. It will be released as as single on April 18th via SubSpace Communications. Stream it, or check out the music video. Both options are below:

Monster Rally – Island On Fire

By Will, April 18th 2011

Here’s a cool jam from Monster Rally called “Island On Fire” that Bad Panda Records is releasing for free. Monster Rally is Ted Feighan from Columbus, Ohio. After listening to his music that may come as a surprise. He showcases a wide range of influences of African and Bahamian calypso, creating a hazy summer ready sound that will put you in a relaxed state of mind.

The Booze – Down On Your Luck

By Will, April 18th 2011 — with 1 comment

Digging through some old e-mails and came across The Booze. An eye grabbing name that sort of fits. Their song “Down On Your Luck” practically seems like an ode to the r&b inspired of The Rolling Stones.

“Down On Your Luck” features a feel good chorus that begs for a drunken singalong, over classic rock inspired guitars. If you guys need a modern fix on classic guitar rock, The Booze should be your go to guys.

Grab a mp3 of “Down On Your Luck” and check out its music video right after:

[new] Wild Beasts – Smother

By Will, April 17th 2011 — with 3 comments

“Smother’ was a b-side included on Wild Beasts’ Albatross 7″ which was released yesterday as a part of Record Store Day. It’s not included on the bands new album which shares it’s title.

“Smother” is a somber track that sounds like a heartbreaking confession. The warm cracks of the vinyl rip actually enhance the song to my ears. It’s a gloomy track, but you’d be lying if you’re not moved by it.

[new] My Morning Jacket – Octoplasm

By Will, April 16th 2011

My Morning Jacket have created a fan club called “Roll Call” which entitles you to things like their Self-Hypnosis Series where you will get songs such as “Octoplasm”. It’s a 6 minute jazz inspired instrumental that sounds more like something jam band fans would be into. It’s a smooth relaxing listen though, and definitely worth your time if your a fan of MMJ.

Not sure if it’s on the bands new album, Circuital, though. The self titled track
certainly is, though.

Watch Coachella Live Stream Now

By Will, April 15th 2011 — with 1 comment

Right now Coachella is happening in the beautiful deserts of California. If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry. Youtube is live streaming every single set from all the bands playing the festival. It’s pretty amazing. It’s not even close to being there, but it’s still a blessing to be able to watch every set live. Technology has come a long, long, way.

I’m watching Interpol’s set as we speak. I’m going to try and live tweet whatever I can from the live sets that I watch. Follow me on twitter to see how that comes out.

Watch the live stream of Coachella right here.

Therapies Son – Touching Down

By Will, April 15th 2011

Tomorrow Therapies Son is releasing his debut 5-track EP, Over The Sea as a part of Record Store Day. Therapies is 19 year old Alex Jacob from California.

“Touching Down’ features almost unrecognizable vocals from Jacob, while a merry-go-round rhythm continues it’s circular motion. For such a young act, Therapies Son has soldified himself as a legitimate must watch act.

Got to get my hands on the rest of this EP for sure.
