[new] Kaiser Chiefs – Little Shocks

By Will, May 31st 2011 — with 2 comments

It’s been a while since we’ve heard new Kaiser Chiefs. Little did I know that they released a new music video/song called “Little Shocks”. I can’t help to be reminded of Maxïmo Park somewhat. It’s heavy on the electronic side, but not shying away from guitar solos either.

It’s taken from their upcoming (still untitled) 4th album. Watch the video below:

What do you guys think. Do the Chiefs still got it?

Lotus Plaza – Out Of Touch

By Will, May 31st 2011

Fans of Deerhunter should have no problem getting involved with Lotus Plaza, the solo project of Deerhunter’s Lockett Pundt – whose “Desire Lines” was one of the highlights from Halcyon Digest for me.

He’s releasing a 12″ (limited to 500 copies) on new record label, Palmist. The vinyl features two songs from Lotus Plaza, including “Out Of Touch”, a dreamy track that you can stream below via Pitchfork

Little Brothers – Nostalgia Trip 2011 [EP]

By Will, May 31st 2011 — with 1 comment

I love when artists use their voices in cool and unique ways that make them standout. Little Brothers EP, Nostalgia Trip 2011 has been delighting me all night for many reasons. One particular strong point is certainly their vocals.

Little Brothers use vocals to their advantage on this fantastic little EP. On vibrant opener “Old Shows” use their voices to coincide perfectly with the music. I can’t imagine one without the other. It makes sense that the band consists of two brothers (Michael and Tony) along with a good friend named Jason. This EP sounds like the work of a tight knit group who share the same vision.

This is a warm delightful EP that has a little bit of everything on it. Little Brothers tackle all kinds of different sounds, finding that the result is always as good as the last.

You can grab the EP for whatever price you want, but after one listen you may start to feel a little more generous.

[Throwback]: The Moderns

By Will, May 29th 2011 — with 1 comment

You can’t do everything on your own. Sometimes other people will find things that went completely over your head. In this case, it was The Vaccines who pointed me in the direction of The Moderns, and old indie rock band from Sweden. They posted one of The Modern’s songs on their facebook page. The name caught my attention right away, so I clicked play and the song “The Year Of Today” delighted my ears. Instantly, I was blown away, filled with all kinds of musical joy. I was running wild with curiosity, wondering who these guys were, and how was I only discovering them now.

I did some research and came across this helpful biography. They were a blazing cool indie band that released an incredible self released/self titled EP in 1979. They eventually released an album, but it seems like things only went downhill for the band after releasing their EP. I wasn’t aware about The Moderns until now, and it’s a damn shame that a lot of other people are probably in the same position that I was in.

Thankfully, Killed By Death Records has all four songs from that EP posted on their site. You can snag all songs below. If you like clean played indie pop with all of the right kinds of influences, this is the perfect EP for you.

Introducing: Lilac

By Will, May 29th 2011 — with 1 comment

Lilac is the brainchild of Will Ivy and Kirsten Knick from San Francisco. Their releasing their self titled EP on Omega Records later this summer (iTunes on June 7th, and Vinyl on July 19th). Lilac delight with blissful 90′s garage rock that is gleaming with summer nostalgia.

Take the amazing garage rock anthem “Cathedral’ and there’s no coming back. Your hooked. Good music is easy to love and even easier to play at an hour. You don’t have to really think about it, it just comes to you. That’s exactly what you get with “Cathedral” and the remainding four songs on their EP.

Grandpa Was A Lion – In A Dream

By Will, May 29th 2011 — with 1 comment

Justin D’Onofrio is a 24 year old from Goshen, Connecticut who goes by the moniker of Grandpa Was A Lion. He has stunned me with his spine-chilling epic, “In A Dream”, taken from his new EP, Archaic.

What begins as a hazy almost (very) early Animal Collective track – tripped out vocals mixed with acoustic guitars transforms into something more simply because of Justin’s voice. His voice mesmerizes you hitting notes that sound as if he’s lost in the song, trying to escape, but soon realizing that the dream isn’t so bad.

I fell in love with “In A Dream” instantly, yet I love the song more and more upon each repeated listen. This is a beauty, you must download this right now:

You can download the entire EP for free right here. He also has a full length EP that you can stream here.
