The world is supposed to end later tomorrow afternoon. I hope that’s not true. If it is, I think seeing The Antlers is a proper way to close out my last night on earth. Their moody atmospheric blend of rock will surely set your emotions to a “sayonara” state of mind.
Tonight at Bowery Ballroom, The Antlers proved to all in attendance that their time is now. Their new album, Burst Apart, is hands down, one of the better albums of 2011 (so far) and all of the songs played from it delivered in epic fashion. Most of the set was dominated by Burst Apart, although there were plenty of timely flashbacks to the bands previous release: the amazing,Hospice. Lead singer Peter Silberman joked about the world ending also noting that “it seems like everyone is secretly scared”. Well if that was the case, no one in the audience had time to show it. We couldn’t be scared while witnessing their flawless display and execution of human emotion and soul. Peter’s falsetto was on point (as always) and if you weren’t moved by it, your emotions are way out of sync.
Not many bands can add depth and new excitement to their songs. Then again, The Antlers aren’t most bands. They take each song and burst through the seams pulling every heart string inside of you, until your begging for more.
