You can’t do everything on your own. Sometimes other people will find things that went completely over your head. In this case, it was The Vaccines who pointed me in the direction of The Moderns, and old indie rock band from Sweden. They posted one of The Modern’s songs on their facebook page. The name caught my attention right away, so I clicked play and the song “The Year Of Today” delighted my ears. Instantly, I was blown away, filled with all kinds of musical joy. I was running wild with curiosity, wondering who these guys were, and how was I only discovering them now.
I did some research and came across this helpful biography. They were a blazing cool indie band that released an incredible self released/self titled EP in 1979. They eventually released an album, but it seems like things only went downhill for the band after releasing their EP. I wasn’t aware about The Moderns until now, and it’s a damn shame that a lot of other people are probably in the same position that I was in.
Thankfully, Killed By Death Records has all four songs from that EP posted on their site. You can snag all songs below. If you like clean played indie pop with all of the right kinds of influences, this is the perfect EP for you.
