Still Corners – Cuckoo

By Will, June 25th 2011

London’s Still Corners aim to create music that acts as a cinematic experience for the listener. One listen to their single “Cuckoo” will put you in your own world – one where your not sure if you’re awake, or asleep. The line of reality and fantasy becomes blurred, and you wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s music that puts you in an entirely different place. Just like a movie.

Fans of Beach House should line up for the bands debut full length, Creatures Of An Hour, which will be delivered to the world on October 11th via Sub Pop.

[new] Wilco – I Might

By Will, June 25th 2011 — with 3 comments

Wilco who just played at their Solid Sound Festival have a new single called “I Might” that is ready for public consumption. It was played on various radio stations earlier today, and the band played live for the first time during their set. It’s available to purchase as a very limited 7″ single to those attending the festival. If you’re not there, ebay may be your friend.

“I Might” has hit the net to the pleasure of many Wilco enthusiasts around the globe. It’s a funky jam that sounds very Elvis Costello to me. Bright sounds all around lead the path for a song that doesn’t shy away from catchiness. It’s very…Wilco.

It’s set to appear on the bands next album, which is rumored to have the working title of The Whole Love.

[new] Twin Sister – Bad Street

By Will, June 25th 2011 — with 1 comment

Twin Sister are releasing their debut full length LP, In Heaven, on September 27 via Domino Records. The band has made an album track titled “Bad Street” available for free download. It’s a smart smooth jam that sounds like the transition from the late 1980′s into the early 1990′s. It has plenty of soul and a lot of proud funk that moves and groove with ease.

Right click + hit save as, and the song is all yours.

[new] Coldplay – Moving To Mars

By Will, June 24th 2011 — with 3 comments

“Moving To Mars” is the third and final song from Coldplay’s Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall EP which is being released this Sunday via iTunes. It sounds like an A Rush Of Blood To The Head outtake, sounding more ballad like than “Major Minus” or the title track. Things pick up midway, sounding like the older, uplifting Coldplay of earlier days. A very solid track overall.

John Tejada – Subdivided

By Will, June 24th 2011

Producer John Tejada recently released new album, Parabolas, on the German record label, Kompakt. One track that you need to hear is the atmospheric “Subdivided”. It takes the listener and puts you in John’s musical mindset. You leave whatever your doing and become absorbed in this world. It’s a glorious listen that is all too perfect. I couldn’t imagine words conveying the same feeling that his electronic music does.

Grab “Subdivided” below:

Bon Iver’s magnificent new self titled album is one of the most gorgeous things to come out of 2011 (so far). It’s hard to imagine anything else out-doing the insane amount of acclaim it’s receiving. Whether or not it deserves a 9.5 is up to debate, but the matter of fact is that it’s a beautiful record that has proven Justin Vernon as one of the most gifted minds in music out there.

If you haven’t heard the record yet, you can stream it here. I don’t know where you’ve been if you haven’t, but trust me, it’s never too late.

Justin Vernon and co. were all over the place this week, playing songs on Stephen Colbert & Jimmy Fallon’s late night talk shows. This all happened much earlier in the week, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t worth a watch if you missed them like me. If you already saw them, then you already know that they’re worth multiple views.

[new] Washed Out – Amor Fati

By Will, June 23rd 2011 — with 1 comment

I don’t think I’m alone expressing my high hopes for Within and Without, the first proper album from Washed Out. Now he’s come and delivered the fantastic new track “Amor Fati” that only raises our expectations. If this song doesn’t drip the sweat of summer 2011, I’m not sure what does. It’s a perfect mix of delightful electronics that dance in unison with Ernest Greene’s blissful vocals.

“Eyes Be Closed” was a good first taste of the album, but “Amor Fati” is truly something great.

Within and Without drops on July 12th via Sub Pop.

[new] Coldplay – Major Minus

By Will, June 23rd 2011 — with 1 comment

Coldplay have been playing new songs live, including a song titled “Major Minus”. The band just uploaded the studio version of “Major Minus”, which is set to appear on the bands upcoming EP, Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall, that will be released on iTunes this Sunday. It includes the title track, and another new song titled “Moving To Mars”.

The song is available to stream below via the bands youtube page. One listen will make it clear that this is a guitar heavy track that shows a darker, slightly more aggressive shade of Coldplay’s paint. I for one, am a big fan of this song, and hope that the band pumps out more songs like this.

Scala And Kolacny Brothers – Everlong (Foo Fighters Cover)

By Will, June 22nd 2011 — with 1 comment

The all-female Belgian choir known as Scala And Kolacny Brothers are responsible for that incredible cover of Creep that rose to fame after being featured in The Social Network trailer. Now they’ve taken a stab at everyone’s favorite Foo Fighters song “Everlong”.

It’s posted below in the form of a music video that was directed by Mark Woollen, the same dude who did that unforgettable Social Network trailer. It’s a different interpretation of the song, but it definitely hits emotionally, no matter how you look at it.
