Kuhlamity – Indulgence [Mixtape]

By Will, July 31st 2011

Indulgence is the debut mixtape from Rockland County rapper, Kuhlamity. Last week I shared “My Relation” with you, and it’s just one of the raw yet honest tracks from his debut release. \

Some songs are raw and in your face, others take a slow grind an impress you with his patience. I can’t quite put my finger on it but there’s something refreshing about Kuhlamity that I’m enjoying right now. He raps from an honest perspective, something that I can’t find much of in today’s world of rap/hip-hop.

Indulgence is available to download for free. Grab it right here (right click + save as).

Visit him on facebook or follow him on twitter.

Lots of cool stuff came out this month. Here’s just some of the songs that I found myself rocking out to the most. I left some songs from July off on purpose because it’s likely going to make an appearance on a different list I have coming up soon.

As always, thanks to the magician himself, Camilo Bejarano for the album art that is posted above. He never disappoints.

Stream each track individually, and download a mix of all of them in order with the album art at the end of the post. Enjoy!

3 Years!

By Will, July 30th 2011 — with 3 comments

Woah, today is the 3rd year that We All Want Someone To Shout For has been around. That’s pretty insane. When I started this bad boy, I was getting ready to leave for college. Now I’m entering my senior year. Time sure flies.

Later this week I got a little present for you guys as a little celebration for three wonderful years. If you follow me on facebook or twitter, you may know what I’m talking about. If not, you will soon find out.

Thanks for all your support over the last three years. Whether you just started reading, or if you’ve been around since those good old days on blogspot (with my less than pleasant layout). Either way, it means the world to me. I can’t thank you enough.

Here’s to three more!

-Will

My  best friend Chris (follow him on twitter) has an even broader taste of music than me. Even so. he surprised me when he bought Ellie Goulding’s CD when we went to London this past January. He’s been a big fan of hers ever since and when he told me that he bought tickets to see her live, I was intrigued. I always want to keep an open mind and try new things, and an Ellie Goulding show is definitely different than what I usually attend. Thanks to the good people at FTW, I got an opportunity to check out her sold out show at Terminal 5 tonight.

It was a rare moment in concert going where I (a male) was in the minority. As you can expect there were plenty of females there, mostly in their teens. To be fair there were a decent amount of guys there, proving that Ellie has cross appeal.

Ellie is definitely a star in the making. I’m not all that familiar with her stuff (aside for the big hits), and a lot of the set was hit or miss, but when she wants to. she can create quite a ruckus (“Starry Eyed” was a great deal of fun). Her hit are certainly hits for a reason. She did some slower stuff which suited her better than I expected. I really enjoyed her cover of Elton John’s “Your Song”, it translated very well live.

I didn’t realize that she was only 24 years old, so she’s only going to get better. She has a great voice live and seemed to be very geniune to her fans, always a plus these days. I wasn’t completely blown away but I did have fun watching her perform, which is all one can really ask for in a pop star.

Ellie is young and already has an incredible fan base. I think this is just the start, give it a few years and she will be even bigger than she already is. It’ll be hard not to smile as it happens. She’s a very likable pop star, something we need more of.

Bag Raiders opened and brought a decent set of enjoyable electo-house songs that got everyone amped. Not too shabby.

[listen]: Rewards – Equal Dreams (Feat. Solange Knowles)

By Will, July 29th 2011 — with 1 comment

Rewards a.k.a. Aaron Pfenning used to be in Chairlift. Now he’s crafting his own solo beats, such as his new single, “Equal Dreams” which features Solange Knowles. It’s a fusion of tropical sounds meshed together with those late night thoughts that usually make so much more sense at the moment. The cool thing with Rewards is that Aaron does make sense of all his thoughts.

“Equal Dreams” is being released as a single by DFA on July 25 (purchase it here). A full length album will be released later this year. For now, take a listen to the single:

Check out a song he released last year called, “I Used To”.

Rewards has a few local shows scheduled in the next few weeks. Tomorrow he’s playing at the Cameo Gallery, he’s at the Manhattan Inn on August 4, and back at the Cameo Gallery on August 18.

[new] Gauntlet Hair – Top Bunk

By Will, July 29th 2011 — with 1 comment

Gauntlet Hair scrapped their way onto my best songs of the year last year, and that was before even releasing an album. The band is releasing their s/t debut album via Dead Oceans on October 18.

If you liked anything from their debut 7″ singles last year, you will be infatic to hear their new material. They’re offering a free download of “Top Bunk”, a totally fantastic album cut. It’s gritty and grinds towards an epic finish. Oh hell, the whole song is epic, who am I kidding.

Download it below:

Chairlift – Amanaemonesia

By Will, July 29th 2011

Totally slept on the fact that Chairlift have a new single out there. It’s entitled “Amanaemonesia” and will be released on August 16 via Chris Taylor’s Terrible Records.

It’s a funky cool track that expands on the sound they delighted us with on Does You Inspire You. You can stream it below:

The band will have a new album out later in the year. Watch a little teaser that they posted on their site:

[Get To Know]: Duke Raoul

By Will, July 29th 2011

Duke Raoul are a four-piece from Brighton, England who just released their new EP (the bands 2nd) entitled, Young Starlings, via Prime Cut Music.

It’s a four song EP that dives in and out of different genres with ease. They fiddle around with Fleet Foxes harmonies on “Cloak & Dagger” and then dive into wonderful trips of psychedelic glory on title track, “Young Starlings”. The EP proves that this is a band with multiple tools that they can readily use to delight us.

Take a listen to the aforementioned tracks below via bandcamp and be sure to buy a beautiful cassette of the EP right here.

[new]: Laura Marling – Sophia

By Will, July 28th 2011 — with 1 comment

“Sophia” is the first single from Laura Marling’s third album, A Creature I Don’t Know. I’m not familiar with Marling’s stuff but this single is doing the trick right now. It takes a little bit for it to hit its stride, but when it does, its’ quite good.

Check out a stream below:

drops on September 13 via Ribbon Music/Virgin Records.
