An Interview With: Yellow Dogs

By Will, July 13th 2011 — with 1 comment Interview

I’m trying to help out Not Blood Paint, Jangula and Yellow Dogs a bit with the promotion of their show at The Knitting Factory this Saturday. It’s a great lineup, and I hope you guys can make it out. Tickets are available to buy online now for only $9, head here to pick some up. Find more info at the facebook page here.

I dug deep into the minds of the bands, in enlightening interviews that showed us a little bit about their spirits. Check out my interview with the enthusiastic Yellow Dogs. Their spirit will be enough to sway you down to The Knitting Factory Saturday night.

1. Will: You guys used to be an illegal band in your hometown. What was it like playing secret shows, and how has it impacted your music (work ethic, motivation, etc..)?

Yellow Dogs: Playing secret or underground show’s is one of our favorite things to do, even here and now. Back in our home town, we used to play only in secret/underground show’s, we even used to rehearse in a secret sound proof room, so all of those struggles with cops and authorities in Tehran/Iran gave a sense of fear panic and stress in our music.

2. W: What bands influenced you guys? Who are your musical heroes?

YD: We don’t like hero’s that much but these are the bands that we love: Talking Heads, Gang of Four, The Kinks, The Faint, Moving Units.

3. W: How would you describe the Yellow Dogs live experience?

YD: Stressful and groovy.

4. W: What’s one thing you want my readers to know about your band?

YD: After 4 years of playing music, we finally had the chance/money to record our first EP “In The Kennel” which is out right now. Go ahead and take a listen. (Listen to the EP right here.)

5. W: You guys have clearly come a long way to live out your dream. What would be “making it” as a band, for you?

YD: Our home country was such a shit hole for being avant-gard musicians, so we have already made it once by getting out of there with out doing anything except rocking the casbah. For now making it will be being able to pay our rent with our music and not working our asses of doing all sorts of things.

6. W: Favorite Alcoholic Beverage?

YD: what ever Johnny walker achieved in his whole life.

Drumming is not bad. The rest is just like any other fade-out fast group like The Dead 60s.
