AIMES – Every Time When I See You

By Will, July 20th 2011

AIMES first single “Every Time When I See You” sounds like a mix of sad brit rock and 80s new wave. It’s a stellar first effort that can be found on his debut album, Your Floor Is Now A Tree, which will be released on August 2nd via ModyWorks.

Stream it below and grab it’s b-side “Is a Good Friend?” for free right after:

Fall On Your Sword – The First Time I Saw Jupiter

By Will, July 20th 2011 — with 1 comment

Another Earth caught my interest after it’s intriguing trailer. Turns out they got some pretty stellar tunes backing it up too.

Fall On Your Sword, the duo of Will Bates and Philip Mossman, make fantastic electronic music that just works. I can only image that this music is a perfect suitor for the film. Check out a track from the soundtrack below and find out why they were selected to create the sounds of the film:

Good news, the latest Kanye West & Jay-Z song from their collaborative album, Watch The Throne is out. It’s a song called “Otis” which uses some vocals from none other than Otis Redding.

Earlier tonight Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex premiered the song, and now the song has been added to Jay-Z’s website. The Otis sample is the foundation of the song, and it works pretty well with the duel verses from Yeezy and Jigga.

Go h.a.m. with a stream below:

Watch The Throne is released digitally on August 1st, and physically on August 5th via Roc Nation/Def Jam.

[new] Girls – Vomit

By Will, July 20th 2011 — with 1 comment

“Vomit” is the first official taste of Girls’ new album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost (out September 13 via True Panther Sounds).

“Vomit” is a extensive jam that is heavy on the organ diving deeper into older inspired jams that sound both familiar and new at the same time. The band weaves in between quiet moments of solitude and blissful psychedelic freakouts that combine to create a very enjoyable six and a half minutes.

After a radio rip leaked, the band has decided to give away the mp3 for free. Grab it below:

The new album is now available to pre-order.

Jens Lekman Announces New EP: An Argument With Myself

By Will, July 19th 2011 — with 2 comments

The last official release from Jens Lekman was his 2007 LP, Night Falls Over Kortedala. That all changes on September 20 when he releases his new EP, titled An Argument With Myself, via Secretly Canadian.

Jens calls the EP “A taste of what’s not to come” in an interview with the Walla Walla Washington Union Bulletin. It’s a great read and gives us a little insight of what is to come from the EP. Here’s the tracklisting as well:

1. An Argument with Myself
2. Waiting for Kirsten
3. A Promise
4. New Directions
5. So This Guy at My Office

Some US tour dates after the jump. Tickets to both of his NYC dats go on sale this Friday:

[new]: M83 – Midnight City

By Will, July 19th 2011 — with 2 comments

M83, a.k.a. Anthony Gonzalez is releasing a double album called Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming on October 18 via Mute.

It’s a very M83 song with a sky soaring electronics that don’t hold back in anyway. Anthony’s dream infused vocals work wonders over the orchestrated chaos that he has created with “Midnight City”. He promised us an epic album, and so far it looks like he delivered.

[new] Dum Dum Girls – Coming Down

By Will, July 19th 2011

I liked the Dum Dum Girls debut album enough, but no track had caught my attention like the bands new song “Coming Down”. It’s the first taste of their new album, Only In Dreams, which drops September 27 via Sub Pop Records.

Immediately I was reminded of Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You”, which is a special song for my friends and I since we recently fell in love with after it came on pandora during our trip home from Bonnaroo. Maybe it’s the source of inspiration, or maybe it’s just a coincidence. Either way, “Coming Down” stands tall among many tracks, and is bound to impress you.

How can you not love girls that can make you swoon?

[I'm Shouting For]: Air Review

By Will, July 19th 2011

Air Review hail from Dallas and are releasing an EP called America’s Son this fall. The EP consists of singles that they’ve been teasing fans with since spring.

Led by the title track, these songs feature all the right ingredients of a great folk-rock tracks that are destined to warm you up inside. The lofty title track is perfect for the summer but it would also be nice to have it’s comfort during a cold winters day.

“Low Wishes” is the latest single to be released (today). It makes strides towards plenty of uplifting moments that leave you left with nothing but a smile. They aimed high and went even further than they aspired.

Another song that has me in awe is “Waiting Lessons”. It would be easy to just call this track a beautiful offering, but there’s much more to it. It digs deep into a well of human emotion that music desperately needs more of.

For a young band these guys have the whole songwriting thing executed. Don’t be surprised if Air Review are a brand name in a few short months. These songs don’t lie:

BOA – Push

By Will, July 19th 2011

BOA are a fresh band from Gothenburg, Sweden who caught my attention with their incredible single “Push”. Try not to fall in love with Orsi Toró’s delicate vocals over a steady beat mixed with layers of ice cool electronics. The song hits it off from the first instant and it flourishes with each step. I haven’t had the song for more than an hour and I’m already sure that it’s one of the best songs that I’m going to hear all year.

The bio on their soundcloud page goes on to say:

“BOA does not want to change the world; they just want to be there while it´s spinning. They can’t really put a finger on exactly what genre they are playing, but they hope that it is something that people want to listen to. So let the music play and listen.”

I like this band a whole lot more now. How could you not?

Grab a free mp3 of “Push” via the Swedish record label Jämmerdosa which will release the bands debut album Forever and Never later this fall. I’m already counting down the days. You can also listen to more songs from the band right here.
