Hollerado – Juliette

By Will, July 19th 2011

Hollerado’s “Juliette” is not a new song by any means. It came out in 2009 when the band released their debut album Record In A Bag for free. It just came on shuffle and I realized that I never did share this with you guys. (Though I have mentioned them before)

“Juliette” is a song that just screams summer fun. Big guitar riffs, an easy to sing chorus, and catchy parts bleeding out of the seems. It’s just effective in all directions. Complete and utter fun (the whole album is this way).

Enjoy:

Holiday Shores – Spells

By Will, July 19th 2011

Holiday Shores made a great first impression when they opened for The Morning Benders at The Music Hall Of Williamsburg early last year. I immediately became a fan, excited to hear some of the new stuff that they played at that set.

They’re releasing a new album entitled New Masses for Squaw Peak via twosyllable records on September 13 (seems to be a popular date).

The Florida band has made a track called “Spells’ available for free download. It’s the essence of smart sunny indie rock that matches jangly instrumentals over dream fevered vocals.

If you’re not careful this song is going to craft a sunny spell on you. Ah what the hell, why not let it:

The Beastie Boys new video for “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” was directed by Spike Jonze. It features action figures of the band + Santi playing a concert and eventually taking on some action movie cliches.

Did the video remind anyone else of Action League Now? That’s the only thing I could think about while watching.

It’s a fun watch.

Update: Here’s the full 11 minute version of the video:

As Stereogum points out, Ryan Adams just posted a cover of Vampire Weekend’s “Mansard Roof” on his facebook page. The cover seems to have been done literally right in front of Adams’ computer, as bare bones as you can get.

It’s certainly a different version of the song, and not a bad listen at 2 a.m. Head to Ryan’s facebook page to listen/watch.

Update: Watch it below:

Either way, enjoy the original version below. Damn, this music video seems like forever ago…doesn’t it?

Neon Indian Announces New Album: Era Extraña

By Will, July 19th 2011 — with 2 comments

Era Extraña is the official title of Neon Indian’s new album. It will be released on Alan Palomo’s imprint label Static Tongues (via Mom + Pop Music) on September 13. That’s a lot sooner than I expected, making it even more awesome news.

In April we got a (small) taste of the album in the form of “Heart: Attack”. The album was recorded mostly in Helsinki last winter, and Alan produced the whole thing himself.

September is an exciting month for me, and knowing that albums like Era Extraña will be released then only make it that much better.

[new] Björk – Cosmogony

Check out “Cosmogony”, a new track from Björk‘s upcoming album Biophilia. It’s a haunting track that will take you on an emotional journey. It will be available to purchase on iTunes later today. You can take a listen to a stream below via All Neon Like and Consequence Of Sound.

The Horrors – Get Carter Theme

By Will, July 19th 2011

The Horrors new album Skying has been on constant repeat for the last week or so, and I don’t plan on changing that. It’s secured a spot as one of my favorite albums of 2011 so far.

The band recently performed a Maida Vale session for Radio 1 and ended up taking a stab at the theme song from the 1971 film, Get Carter, which stars Michael Caine.

I have a mp3 of the cover below thanks to Abeano. The Horrors are on an absolute winning streak. I’ve never seen the film so I can’t compare it to the original, but I really enjoyed this cover.

The Tallest Man On Earth
gave away a song called “Weather Of A Killing Kind” to Adult Swim to use in their singles program. Let’s face it, if you know The Tallest Man On Earth, you’re already a fan of this track. In typical fashion it’s a folk rock gift from the super talented Kristian Matsson. I can only wish I could do what he does.

Download ” Weather Of A Killing Kind” for free below thanks to Adult Swim.

Here’s a cover that My Morning Jacket did of “Our World” a song that came from The Muppets. It’s MMJ’s contribution to Muppets: The Green Album, a tribute album that is coming out on August 23 (a new Muppets film comes out in November).

My Morning Jacket make the song into one of their own. You wouldn’t be wrong if you mistook it for a My Morning Jacket original.

Take a listen:

Washed Out’s music video for standout single “Eyes Be Closed” features a very sexy girl riding around in a motorcycle with various trippy backdrops. The video captures the dreamlike state of the song. Who wouldn’t want to join her on that bike?
