Dusk Warrior – Overdrive Sunrise (Free Album Download)

By Will, August 15th 2011 — with 3 comments

For months now I’ve been teasing you with great little blips from Overdrive Sunrise, the debut album from Dusk Warrior. The band consists of my friend Nicholas Shapiro and his pal Mike Osso. They hail from my hometown of Rockland County, New York, and I couldn’t be any prouder of what these guys have done with the LP.

I’ve posted many songs from this album in the past, which have been remastered with all kinds of love. The new songs flesh the album out to 10 glorious tracks that will help guide the closing hours of this magical summer. They are 10 cinematic instrumentals that say so much through the emotions of instruments. So many different moods and themes are captured during the album’s honest 30 minute run time. It’s really amazing.

Not many instrumental albums sound this lively and visceral. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: Tarintino should really give these guys a call.

The whole album is available for you to download for free at their bandcamp page. You can also listen to it below. You won’t be disappointed, I promise.

Metric Return To The Studio

By Will, August 15th 2011

It’s been nearly two years since Metric released their highly enjoyable indie pop album, Fantasies. The band have just tweeted that they’ve returned to the studio to start recording new material. We can assume that it’s for a new LP or EP, which is certainly a good thing.

Follow Metric on twitter for more updates. Hopefully we’ll have more info for you sooner than later.

Saw that GvB posted this new Air France track, “It Feels Good To Be Around You”, last week, and I finally remembered to check it out. Love the use of the James Blake samples. It’s about time that Air France returned.

It’s absolutely pouring outside right now, but this song is shining some sunlight into this otherwise bleak Sunday.

[video] Wilco Release New Trailer

By Will, August 14th 2011

Wilco have released a new trailer for new album, The Whole Love. It’s a short clip that shows the band playing a new song called “Almost” that sees the band experimenting a bit. Guitarist Nels Cline does some pretty intense guitar work that will wow you.

I just got even more excited for this new LP. This trailer did it’s job. Hollywood should take note.

The Whole Love drops September 27 via the bands label, dBPM.

My friend Vikki showed me this really cool cover that LA band Mr. Little Jeans did of Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs”. You may have heard of it before. High5Collective made a great music video for it that you can watch below.

Mr. Little Jeans can be found on facebook and soundcloud. Check them out while you’re falling in love with this cover.

Coldplay Announce New Album: Mylo Xyloto

By Will, August 12th 2011 — with 1 comment

Mylo Xyloto is the title of Coldplay’s new album to be released on October 25 via Capitol Records. No idea what the title means, but I know that it’s pronounced “my-lo zy-letoe”. Interesting for sure.

Markus Dravs, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson and (of course) Brian Eno shared production duties on this LP. “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” is the album’s first single. The second single is “Paradise”, and it will be released on September 12. I was pulling for “Charlie Brown” but hopefully “Paradise” lives up to it’s title.
