[video] The Shins – Ashes To Ashes (David Bowie Cover)

By Will, August 9th 2011 — with 1 comment

The Shins played their first show under the new line-up which leaves James as the only original member left. You start to wonder if he’s gonna change the name to James Mercer’s Shins.

The show took place at the Wow Hall in Eugene, Oregon. One Thirty BPM was quick to point out that they did a cover of David Bowie’s “Ashes To Ashes”. Check out two versions of the cover from last night after the jump. One of them misses the start of the song, but is in better quality. The other captures the whole thing but isn’t as clean.

Both are via 130BPM:

Gobble Gobble Changes Name To Born Gold

By Will, August 9th 2011

Gobble Gobble have changed their name to Born Gold. The Canadian band led by Cecil Frena announced the name change on Altered Zones. Born Gold will release their debut LP, Bodysongs, on September 20 via the bands own imprint, Hovercraft/Crash Symbols.

“Alabaster Bodyworlds” continues Cecil’s knack for eccentric catchiness. That trademark sound that he branded with Gobble Gobble has been carried over to Born Gold. A more tropical influence can be heard through the layers off the wonderful chaos that he molds into something spectacular. It’s as futuristic of a sound that one could create.

Download it below:

The album is available to pre-order from insound right now. If you do so, you get all the songs a little bit early on September 9.

Quiet Company – You, Me & The Boatman

By Will, August 9th 2011

Austin’s Quiet Company are giving away their new single, “You, Me & The Boatman” as a free mp3. It’s from their upcoming album We Are All Where We Belong. Everything about it just screams big. Epic chorus, horns, the vocals. It’s a fun listen, and one that shouldn’t be ignored.

This is my first taste of Quiet Company, but I doubt it will be my last.

The album is available to pre-order now. If you do so via GrooveShark, you get three months free. Not a bad deal for 8 bucks.

In March Niteflights was a band we told you to watch. Hope you’ve done so, because these guys are going places.

The band has given me the honor of the exclusive premiere of their music video for “What’s The Point?” the b-side for their current single, “Marnie”. It features some interesting footage of unique sport that may have you asking…what’s the point?

Watch it below:

After the jump check out the music video for “Marnie”:

Mark your calendars. On October 25th Ed Banger Records will release Justice’s new album, Audio, Video, Disco. It’s the long awaited (nearly four years) follow-up to their debut album, .

Audio, Video, Disco was recorded in 18 months in a Paris flat. In an interview with Pitchfork, the bands very own Xavier de Rosnay gives insight into the new record. Some album titles include: “Parade”, “Ohio”, and “Cannon”. Apparently this new album sounds more rock oriented, which could be a good or bad thing depending what you want from Justice.

“Civilization” is the first official single from the album. Listen to that below. It’s grown on me a lot since I posted it.
