Canon Blue is the solo project from Daniel James. You could call his music “orchestral pop”, it’s a term that certainly fits his mold.
On August 16 Temporary Residence Limited will release his new album, Rumspringa. Below is a “A Native” a delightful track from the album. Sounds very Ra Ra Riot, which is in all ways, a very good thing.
The Great Book of John is led by Taylor Shaw of Birmingham Alabama band, Wild Sweet Orange. Their latest album is a self titled one, and My Old Kentucky Blog just premiered a fantastic track from the record called “Robin Hood”. It’s a big deal to say that this song reminds me of 90′s Radiohead, but it does.
Taylor wants the build down all those bastards that steal from the poor. How can you not like him?
I feel like Gaslight Anthem have started a big wave of big eyed dramatic rock and roll. I don’t got a problem with that, the genre is as honest and true as you will find. Add Camden’s Tribes to the list of bands likely to have a poster of Bruce Springsteen on their childhood walls.
They have a steady hand on the epic guitar rock thing. There’s a reason that The Pixies themselves asked Tribes to open for them in London. Tribes are set to do big things, if this song is any indication of their future. They will release their debut album sometime in early 2012.
Apparently the band’s video shoot got so wild that the police had to come and shut it down. Check that out along with their first U.s> tour dates, after the jump: Read the rest of this entry »
Who is Lana Del Rey? That’s a question many people will be asking soon. I was asking myself the same question after watching her music video for her lovely song, “Video Games”. She’s got quite a voice. Very seductive, controlling, and powerful. Not only that, but she’s absolutely gorgous. Hey, I’m just saying….
She’s going to be a big thing someday. I don’t doubt that at all. She calls herself the “gangsta Nancy Sinatra” and defines her genre as “Hollywood pop/sadcore”. I like her a lot already.
She hails from New York City, and is preparing her debut album for a release sometime in 2012. Get ready because you’re going to be counting down the days after one listen to her incredible song, “Video Games”. It’s a major ballad that I haven’t been able to shake all day. I don’t want to.
Best Coast has been busy out on tour supporting the hell out of her debut album, Crazy For You. New music isn’t too far off. Bethany just posted on her blog thanking her fans for the support, showing her appreciation by giving us a listen to a demo of a new song called “How They Want Me To Be”.
Here’s what she said about the song:
This song was recorded a few months ago at Black Iris, the same studio we recorded “Crazy For You.” This song is not properly mixed, it’s mostly a rough studio demo of a song I wrote and wanted to record. I am about 99% sure that this song will get re-recorded and changed up a bit and will end up on our second album. It’s called “How They Want Me To Be.
“How They Want Me To Be” may be the same formula that Best Coast has been using, but it’s a successful formula. It’s a nice little song, and I’m really liking it. Remember, it’s only a rough demo. Imagine what a little magic in the studio could do to this beauty.
Listen to the song over here. The link isn’t embeddable yet.
In the case “Jens Lekman vs. Jens Lekman”, we will look closer at the evidence presented – the photo I had carried in my breastpocket for a whole year, the pressed honeysuckle, the wind so rich on summer and so sweet – how are these things connected and why are they relevant?
It’s trademark swoon vocals from Jens showing a dancier side. It’s sounding oh so sweet, in Jens Lekman fashion.
Here’s the silly music video for Toro Y Moi’s “How I Know”. It’s got quirky charm that oddly fits the song. It was directed by Jordan Kim and features Daniel Franzese who you may recognize from Mean Girls.
Cymbals Eat Guitars have given us another free download from their new album, Lenses Alien. “Definite Darkness” is the song, and it’s another impressive cut that you shouldn’t be without.
These guys have shown no fear of sonic exploration so far, so why should “Definite Darkness” be any different? For a band with somewhat of a experimental sound, they sure know how to create moments of beauty.
The Bungalows are a four-piece from Gerringong, Australia. A song of theirs titled “Got To Go” is sounding oh so good right now. Singer G Gannon immediately captures your attention with a comforting howl reminiscent of The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser. The rest of the band plays their part with succesion, creating a rocking track that doesn’t stray from it’s winning formula.
It’s from their new album, Monkey Mountain Road, which is out now thru MAKEyourself Records. Listen to “Got To Go” below, and watch it’s music video right after the jump:
Coldplay made their U.S. return with a performance at UCLA last night (they play Lollapalooza Friday). Jimmy Fallon was on hand and gave us two performances from the bands set to watch. The first is “Charlie Brown”, easily my favorite new song of theirs. It’s the type of epic that Coldplay pull off so well. The second song is “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall”. You may have heard of it.
