Caught Sweden’s Holograms at 285 Kent on Saturday, and the band were a perfect act for the very much DIY Brooklyn venue. Looking young, it took them quite a bit to get everything set up and sound just right. But once they got going, they put on a high energy guitar showcase. The best part about their garage-punk tunes is that they compliment it all unusually with a synth, which is a dynamic that really separates them from the rest of the garage rock wave. I had a lot of fun watching them play. Wouldn’t mind doing it all again soon enough.

Heavenly Beat, the side-project of Beach Fossils’ John Pena, was the only opener that I enjoyed. The set was a funk-dance oriented one with a sunny focus, sort of a mix between Wild Nothing and Jamie xx. The other openers were Herzog Rising and Eraas.
