R.E.M. Breaks Up

By Will, September 21st 2011 — with 2 comments

Sad news indeed. The legendary R.E.M. have officially called it quits. You have every right to be sad, but they’ve had such a long successful career. Just be proud of what they’ve accomplished and remember them for the good.

The band posted the following message on their website:

To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening. – R.E.M.

After the jump check out personal messages from each of the guys.

But first, here’s the always classic “Losing My Religion”. Still remember hearing this for the first time because of my dad.

[album stream]: Youth Lagoon – The Year Of Hibernation

By Will, September 20th 2011 — with 1 comment

Youth Lagoon’s debut album The Year Of Hibernation is streaming over at Spin. It’s surely one of the can’t miss debut albums of the year. I also found out he’s playing Glasslands on September 30th, on my 21st birthday. Maybe I’ll work that into my plans. Maybe. Tickets are available for that show here.

Stream The Year Of Hibernation here. Below is “Bobby’, a bonus track that comes on a 7″ that you’d get if you purchased the vinyl.

Panda Bear took the already awesome Korallreven track “As Young As Yesterday” giving it rework through an even tripper lens. It leaves you feeling disconnected, leaving room for all the lost emotions to find a place to stay.

The remix is included on the 7″ release that Acéphale just released.

Stream it below:

[video]: The Walkmen Play New Song Live

By Will, September 19th 2011

The Walkmen played a new song at the Santa Barbara Bowl that is working with the title of “Your Southern Soul” on youtube. It’s more homemade beauty from the band who seem to dig out endless amount of heart warming gems. Check it, Hamilton is even playing some guitar.
