[listen] The Walkmen Do Johnny Cash Covers

By Will, September 9th 2011

While stopping in at Seattle radio station KEXP, The Walkmen did a bunch of Johnny Cash covers. They included “Darlin’ Companion”, “Wanted Man” (Cash’s version of Dylan’s), “Mr. Lonesome”, and “The Auld Triangle”. The Walkmen are so good, they take these songs and make it seem like they’re their very own.

Take a listen to them below via the always attentive fellas over at One Thirty BPM:

[music video]: Lana Del Rey – Blue Jeans

By Will, September 9th 2011

“Blue Jeans” is the b-side on Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” single (my favorite song of ’11 so far).

“Blue Jeans” is right up there in terms of another powerful song from the beautiful woman who I keep falling further in love with. She released it’s music video today. If Lana Del Rey is not a sure thing for the next big thing, I owe you one.

[new] Pearl Jam – Ole

By Will, September 9th 2011 — with 1 comment

Last night Pearl Jam performed new song “Olé” live for Jimmy Fallon’s late night show. It’s a new song that is pairing up with the release of the Cameron Crowe directed documentary about the bands 20th year: Pearl Jam Twenty.

The song is a quick Pearl Jam rocker that they made available to download for free immediately after the performance. They know whats up. Watch the performance and grab the mp3 below:

Summer Camp have updated those who pleged on pledgemusic with a first look at the artwork to their debut album, Welcome To Condale.

The LP officially drops on October 31st. We’re literally counting down the days. Here’s “Better Off Without You”, a song from the album that’s truly one of the best of the year.

“Written On My Hand” is the latest demo from New York City Cops, a young British act who already wowed me with their first demo, “Summer Sun”.

It’s another fantastic entry to their young but ever so promising career. The song starts out in a calm haze but eagerly arrives to a shoe-gazy breakout that is hypnotic, chaotic, and strangely calming.

The future is looking a lot brighter with these lads.
