Next week The Decemberists will release a new EP titled Long Live The King. It is composed of outtakes from The King Is Dead, the album that the band released this past January.

Right now songs from the EP are streaming on various sites. Head to Vulture to hear a track called “Foregone”, head to Rolling Stone for “Burying Davy” and finally, head to Paste for “E. Watson”. The EP also contains the bands Grateful Dead cover of “Row Jimmy” that we heard a little while back.

In more important news, the band’s very own Jenny Conlee is currently in remission against breast cancer. I want to just take a moment to congratulate Jenny. Here’s to many more years of great health!

The National have recorded a cover of The Philistines Jr. song “Twenty Miles To NH Part 2″ as a part of The Philistines Jr.’s compilation album, If a Lot of Bands Play in the Woods… The compilation features various artists that the band asked to cover songs from their 2010 album, If a Band Plays in the Woods…?.

The cover album is out on November 1st. We already posted Frightened Rabbit’s cover, and now it’s time to make room for The National, who deliver a stunning cover. New music from these fine gentlemen is always a highlight of any day.

Take a listen:

Ra Ra Riot Release Limited Edition Tapes

By Will, October 26th 2011

Cassette Tapes? They still make cassette tapes your probably saying right now. Believe it or not, the answer is yet. They are hard to find for sure, but every so often bands will release their albums in limited runs. Ra Ra Riot has teamed up with Working Man Records to release both of their albums on a limited run of 100 tapes.

If you’re a big Ra Ra Riot fan, this is a must own. Even if you can’t play it (unless your rocking an old car), this is certainly a must have collectable for any big fans. They’re only $5 ($7+ w/ shipping), and probably won’t last long, so pick them up here.

A few weeks back the band performed “Shadowcasting” for Jimmy Fallon. Watch that below:

[new]: The Black Keys – Lonely Boy

By Will, October 26th 2011 — with 1 comment

The Black Keys
new single “Lonely Boy” is finally here. It’s off their new album El Camino that will be released on December 6, which really can’t come soon enough.

The band released it digitally today, along with an amazing viral video which makes the whole experience just that more awesome. “Lonely Boy” features a dirty south guitar riff and a fast paced groove that only Dan and Pat could do. They are unstoppable.

Watch and listen to “Lonely Boy” below:

The band is releasing an exclusive 7″ vinyl of the single on November 25 as a part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday releases.

[new]: Chromatics – Kill For Love

By Will, October 25th 2011

Chromatics are riding the success train of Drive (one of the best films of 2011), which featured their song “Tick Of The Clock”. They’re making use of this opportunity announcing the release of a new album titled Kill For Love. We can expect to see it out sometime in January via Italians Do It Better.

The first taste of the new album is the title track, whose music video is posted below. It’s a dream ridden jam staying true to their late night 80s sound that made them a perfect fit for Drive.

Watch and listen to “Kill For Love” below. You’ll also find the album’s tracklist:

[new]: Atlas Sound – Flagstaff

By Will, October 25th 2011

Yes, another free Atlas Sound track taken from his new album, Parallax. “Flagstaff” is the latest track that Bradford Cox has given away for free, and it doesn’t leave us with much new stuff to anticipate from the proper release. I’m not complaining, though.

“Falgstaff” is a combination of bare solemnity and dense textures co-aligning to form a mighty result. Mood and texture take over control, leaving us lost in the core, hoping for Bradford’s assistance.

See if you find it:

The Good Natured Announce US Shows

By Will, October 25th 2011

British electro-poppers The Good Natured are no strangers to my site (see here). The band has yet to play a proper public show aside from SXSW. This changes in 2012, when the band will come stateside. The band will hit NYC first, playing at The Mercury Lounge and Glasslands Gallery on January 16 & 17 respectively.

Check out her music video for “Skeleton”, which is the title track on their new EP, just released yesterday.

Her small run of early 2012 tour dates are available after the jump:
