[new]: Tennis – Origins

By Will, November 9th 2011

Tennis are releasing a new single titled “Origins” on limited edition blue 7” vinyl on December 6 via Forest Family Records.

The single will be on the band’s newly announced new album, Young And Old, which will come out on February 14 via Fat Possum. The album was produced by The Black Keys drummer, Patrick Carney.

“Origins” is familiar territory upon your first listen. Further digging lands you with the realization that Tennis are only getting better and better. It’s got that sunny upside that they’ve made their own, as well as a psych-ridden groove that may be due in part to Mr. Carney.

Take a listen below and pre-order the 7″ here. It comes with the self-produced b-side “”Deep in the Woods”.

Sharon Van Etten Announces New Album: Tramp

By Will, November 8th 2011 — with 2 comments

Tramp is the name of Sharon Van Etten’s new album. It will be released via Jagjaguwar on February 7. It’s her first album for the label, and her follow-up to her underappreciated 2010 album, epic.

The album sees contributions from The National’s Aaron Dessner, Matt Barrick of The Walkmen, Beirut’s Zach Condon, Jenn Wasner, of Wye Oak and more. The album will be as honest as they come. A press release tells us the brutual honesty of Van Etten’s time recording the album:

Throughout the 14 months of scattered recording sessions, Van Etten was without a home — crashing with friends and storing her possessions between varied locations. The only constant in Van Etten’s life during this time was spent in the garage studio of The National’s Aaron Dessner.

Check out the Tramp tracklisting and her upcoming tour dates, all of which are posted below.

[watch] // [new]: Lana Del Rey – Born 2 Die

By Will, November 8th 2011 — with 2 comments

Lana Del Rey performed her new single, “Born 2 Die” last night in Paris. One of the lyrics is:

Let me fuck you hard in pouring rain, you like your girls insane.

It has this hard driven passion about it that makes me really confident about the recorded version of this single. My adoration of Ms. Del Rey has become an unpopular decision but if she keeps writing pop songs of this quality, I have no shame.

Watch her performance of “Born 2 Die” below via Pitchfork via Lastig Hip.

Serenades – Oceans

By Will, November 8th 2011

“Oceans” is some proper Swedish pop from Serenades the duo of Adam Olenius (Shout Out Louds) and Markus Krunegard. There’s just something about Swedish pop that stands out from the rest. Serenades capture the essence of this feeling and hit it out of the park.

It’s a sunny song that is a few months late, but it’s good enough to warm you up through the impending cold. It’s taken from their upcoming debut EP, Come Home, which is out everywhere on November 15 via Cherrytree Records.

[new]: Cloud Nothings – No Future/No Past

By Will, November 8th 2011

“No Future/No Past” is the new single from Cloud Nothings. Immediately upon playing it you will notice that it has a raw abrasive nature that calls to mind early Weezer/Nirvana. It’s a great turn for the band who sounded just fine the way they were on their debut. But this is some next level stuff, that takes them on a darker, emotional turn. And I’m all for it.

It’s gonna be on their upcoming new album, Attack On Memory, out January 24th, via Carpark Records. Download a mp3 of “No Future/No Past” below:
