Lockets – Camera Shy

By Will, December 27th 2011

Lockets are Todd and Dani, a dream-pop duo from Philadelphia. Their first single “Camera Shy” is a delicate display of affection, elevated high through warm layers of sound. Think if Beach House and Memoryhouse got together. It’s the definition of dreamy music done right.

It’s available to stream below. It will likely be on their debut full length, which we can expect sometime in 2012.

Warm Weather – A Promise

By Will, December 26th 2011

Over the summer Warm Weather released a fantastic little EP titled Dances. It was a really nice listen, and I’m glad to hear that they’re following it up this January with a new EP titled Looking Through.

“A Promise” is a track from the EP that the band are using as a preview. It’s more of the same quality from the West Hollywood, California natives. Light vocals and warm, calming instrumentation should be enough to keep you relaxed through the holidays.

[new]: The xx – Open Eyes (Demo)

By Will, December 26th 2011

The xx have been working on a new album, which we can expect sometime next year. The band have shared a demo of a new song called “Open Eyes’ with us. They shared it on their blog with the brief message you can find below.

Open eyes is a demo we did whilst creating our new album, we just wanted to share it with you. xx

-The xx

It’s a sparse and atmospheric affair, in other words, very much The xx. It’s good to hear new stuff from them. Download the demo below.

[new]: Lana Del Rey – Off To The Races

By Will, December 20th 2011

“Off To The Races” is a track from Lana Del Rey’s debut album, Born To Die. It was released as iTunes UK free single of the week, and we heard the live version a little while back. It’s got a different feel from the rest of the tracks that we have heard from Lana so far. It’s a more produced tracks featuring beats and a heavy influence of a pop star.

I need to let this one sink in a bit more. Take a listen below, let me know what you think. I’m sure you will. When it comes to Lana, someone always does.

Little Cuts – Plastic Disaster

By Will, December 19th 2011

Little Cuts are a new band fronted by Dave Hernandez, formerly a member of The Shins. Now that The Shins is just James Mercer, I was curious as to what Hernandez was up to. Now we have the answer.

He’s included Andrew Church on bass and Curtis James on drums (James recently left and David Weeks took over). They are releasing an EP titled Plastic Disaster on December 20th via Dirtnap Records.

The title track features a guitar line that sounds very Shins like. Sounding a bit retro and throwback, it’s a solid track throughout that I find very easy to listen. Think you will agree.

Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s have announced their new album, Rot Gut, Domestic. It’s their 5th record, and it’s coming on March 20th via their own Mariel Recording Company.

Singer/songwriter Richard Edwards wrote the album over 26 days in Pismo Beach, CA last spring. “Prozac Rock” is the first single from the album, and will be available digitally on January 3rd. The album art is posted above, and the tracklisting is after the jump.
