Kuhlamity finally released his first EP, Center Of A Tension. Brandun Deshay produced the album and deserves half of the credit, as the album art points out.

I’ve already shared a few of the songs from the EP with you guys and if you liked those, then you’re going to enjoy the whole thing for sure. If you want some exciting rap that is raw, real, and passionate, look no further. It’s as real as rap music gets these days. And that’s something worth listening to.

Download Center Of A tension right here. It’s free and it has my stamp of approval. What else do you need?

[watch]: The National & Bon Iver Perform Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks

By Will, December 9th 2011 — with 2 comments

Yesterday The National performed two new songs live for Toronto’s CBC Radio show Q, at the Glenn Gould Studio. Footage has arrived of them performing their High Violet album closer, “Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks” live with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver.

This is a performance that will make you look at the song from a whole new light. It’s spectacular. Having Justin Vernon on your side is always an added bonus. You want that dude on your team.

Watch the performance after the jump.

Field Mouse are a 4-piece “dream pop” band from Brooklyn. They got a new single out called “You Guys Are Gonna Wake Up My Mom” and it’s all kinds of shoegazy dreaminess. It’s hard to decide what to get lost in, the distorted fuzziness, or the wondrous vocals of lead singer Rachel Browne. Just go for both…

It will be released as a 7″ vinyl next year via Small Plates Records. Check out it’s music video after the jump.

Hear The National Perform Two New Songs Live

Today The National performed live for Toronto’s CBC Radio show Q, at the Glenn Gould Studio. The performance included two new songs called “Rylan” and “I Need My Girl”.

If you like The National, you will love these songs. It’s a trend I’ve been noticing with everything they release. It’s as simple as that.

Download mp3′s of both performance below.

Alvin and Lyle – The Good Feeling

By Will, December 7th 2011

Alvin and Lyle sent me a really chill of theirs track called “The Good Feeling”. The title speaks the truth. It’s a feel good funky jam that makes retro sound really fresh. Washed out synths, deep bass and mesmerizing vocals do the trick.

Not much is known about these guys as this is literally their first release, but their soundcloud page says that they’re from Luxembourg. Their email said that they got together following encouragement from family and friends. Look out for an EP soon.

Christmas music isn’t my thing. Sure, I’ll listen to some the week of the holiday, but that’s about it. Any other time it’s just overkill. I don’t mean to be a kill joy, it’s usually just not my thing. Every now and then I’ll soften up a bit and give some stuff a chance, usually in the form of a good cover or a classic cut (Bing Crosby anyone?) that is hard for even me to hate on. Laurie Cameron did both.

Laurie Cameron is a talented young woman from Scotland that I posted about a while back. Laurie is actually a friend of mine, but that’s not why I’m sharing her music with you. She’s extremely talented, and deserves to be noticed.

She just released two songs that put a refreshing twist on the Christmas genre. One is an actually tolerable version of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”, the other is an original called “One Christmas Fall”. Both are delicate showcases for Laurie’s beautiful voice, and something that I wouldn’t mind hearing during snowfalls like the one I’m experiencing tonight.

Watch the video for “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home” below, and head here to listen to “One Christmas Fall”.

If you like what you hear, buy the single from Laurie right here.

Sleigh Bells Reveal Reign Of Terror Details

By Will, December 7th 2011 — with 1 comment

Last week Sleigh Bells gave us a video teaser of a new album called Reign Of Terror. Now the band has given us the dirt on the new record.

It will be released on February 14th, 2012 via Mom + Pop Music. Guitarist Derek Miller produced the album, just as he did for their debut.

Check out how a press release described the album below. It sounds pretty intense.

Songs on Reign of Terror are as crushing and authoritative as their title suggests; they’re effortlessly robust and heavier than any of the band’s previous output, but more melodic as well, the sonic equivalent of a beautiful shotgun to the head. Packed densely with stomping beats, shredding Jackson guitar riffs, sinister ribbons of Alexis Krauss’ candy-coated vocals, and the cries of a pep rally gone terribly wrong, Reign of Terror is a record that, like its predecessor, redefines everything you think music can be.

Try not to get excited.

[watch]: The Black Keys On Colbert

By Will, December 7th 2011

The Black Keys
stopped by Stephen Colbert’s show and performed “Lonely Boy” & “Gold On The Ceiling”. The real gold can be found in the interview they do with Colbert. It’s a funny conversation, worth a watch purely for their reaction to Colbert’s question about groupies. Awkward in the best way possible.

Watch all three clips after the jump. The sound people at SNL really need to take note of this performance.
