The Shins are back with their first new song in many years. The song is called “Simple Song” and it’s set to appear on their new album, Port Of Morrow ( March 20 via Aural Apothecary/Columbia Records).
“Simple Song” is simply pop-rock perfected to a tee. It jumps out of your speakers and hits all the right chords. It sounds gorgously big, with plenty hooks and clean melodies. The Shins may just be a James Mercer solo project at this point, but if he releases stuff this kid, then it’s all the same to me.
Stream “Simple Song” below.
Digital pre-orders of Port Of Morrow will receive “Simple Song” tomorrow. iTunes pre-orders will also include b-side “Pariah King”. The Shins are selling a whole bunch of cool packages of the album that you can purchase here.

I want to be upset about the loss of Dave Hernandez and Eric Johnson (my two favorites when I saw the Shins three (?) years ago) but this song is so good I am willing to forgive James Mercer. (Plus, Eric Johnson is the lead singer of Fruit Bats — whose new-ish album, Tripper, is really worth checking out.)

Yeah, the song sounds good, but I think this is James Mercer now, it’s not the Shins anymore, well at least until we get to listen the rest of the record.

WOW! This is amazing! Really like how this one feels proper Shins like.
