By Will Oliver, July 10th 2012 — with 1 comment

Saint Motel’s debut album Voyeur is out today. Lead single “Benny Goodman” should have been enough to win you over, but if you need more convincing, take a listen to the full album stream posted below via the band themselves.

In other news, we’re actually co-presenting the bands show at Mercury Lounge on July 27. I’ll have an official announcement coming soon, but for now head to the facebook page to RSVP, and buy tickets (which are $10) right here.

The Walkmen stopped by BBC 6Music to take part in the station’s 50th Anniversary of the Rolling Stones first show. They asked the band to cover a song, and The Walkmen obliged with a cover of “Blue Turns To Grey”. Take a listen below.

Yours Truly recently release a video of The Walkmen performing “The Love You Love”. The performance is actually one of the first of the new song, taken from their trip to San Francisco in January. Watch it below.

[new]: Bloc Party – Octopus

By Will Oliver, July 10th 2012

Over the weekend, Bloc Party’s new single “Octopus” was accidentally put on sale for a limited time on amazon. Some quick-minded fans bought the single and soon the song was out there for everyone to see. The band couldn’t have been pleased, but things have calmed down and now they have released the proper music video for “Octopus”, as originally planned.

“Octopus” isn’t your traditional rock single. Bloc Party don’t hold back in anyway, using guitar delay effects resulting in an experimental sound. It’s a lot different from what I expected from their return-single. I wasn’t impressed on my first listen, but I kept listening and soon it all clicked. “Octopus” will soon get a hold of you, just when you least expect it.

Watch/listen to “Octopus” below.

It’s off their new album Four, which comes out on August 21 via Frenchkiss. Pre-order it here.

Yours Truly and Adidas Originas brought Danny Brown and Araabmuzik together for their “Songs From Scratch” documentary series. The two wrote a new song titled “Molly Rangwald”, on the spot and it will later be recorded on a 7″ on Yours Truly’s Love Letters Ink Imprint. “Molly Ringwald” will be available to download on July 17. Below watch the Yours Truly video of the collaboration.

To win a copy of the 7″, tag @yourstrulysf in a facebook status update linking to the video.

Frightened Rabbit Announce New EP

By Will Oliver, July 10th 2012

Frightened Rabbit are releasing a new EP on Canvasback/Atlantic Records. The EP is untitled for now, but it will precede their album for Atlantic Records, their major-label debut. I’m interested to see how the new stuff sound. I’m pretty confident the band will still stay true to their sound, even if they’re a part of a much bigger label.

Leann Grimes – I’m Not Too Skinny

By Will Oliver, July 10th 2012

Last year Leann Grimes released a great mixtape/album that was an ode to the great new music he discovered on music blogs. He takes the songs and creates his own songs out of them.

Asheville, North Carolina native Shane Conerty is the man behind Leann Grimes. He’s back with a new release titled I’m Not Too Skinny and it’s another release filled with interesting versions of some great songs.

Here’s how Leann Grimes describes his album:

This album is a continuation of gratitude for music bloggers. Each track on this mixtape is a remix of an indie band’s song that I’ve discovered on various music blogs across the internet in the past year or so. It is my hope that people that are unfamiliar with the band’s I’ve sampled will seek out and support these artists as much as I do.

The album is streaming at bandcamp now. It will be available to download on Friday. Find the album stream below, along with a list of the songs he used.
