Divine Fits Lolla after-party was only their 3rd show as a band. The band has limited their shows to venues in each of their hometowns to start. Lucky for me, a NY native, I was in the right place at the right time for their show.

Any band with Britt Daniel and Dan Boeckner on paper sounds ultra-promising. Live, it sounds as fruitful as you would have dreamed. The duo of them plus Sam Brown create a real powerful rock sound that lives to to the promise. Sure, some songs do sound like Spoon, and some sound a bit between Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs. But the best songs are when they come inbetween, creating a perfect balance of sounds that is heavy, smart, and authentic.

Their debut album A Thing Called Divine Fits isn’t out until the end of this month. It’s going to be a pretty strong album based upon what I heard last Sunday. From the songs I remember, look out for “Like Ice Cream” and “For Your Heart”, both of which you can watch below thanks to an awesome fan recorded video.
