Heading into the weekend it was clear that Savages were the buzziest of buzz bands to see during CMJ 2012. I decided to see what all the fuss was about during BrooklynVegan’s day party and witnessed one of the ballsiest sets of CMJ, period.

Savages are an all girls bands hailing from the UK whose CMJ appearances were their first in America. They played dark, moody punk inspired rock that was often times frantic and vicious, and other times sounding a hell of a lot like Joy Division. They sounded brooding in the best way that post-punk could, and had by blood boiling in the best way possible. It’s the type of music that restores your faith in guitar rock. It’s still alive and kicking in all kinds of ways.

CMJ is just the start for these girls. They’re taking their time building their fan-base before making a record deal. There’s no sense rushing because I can imagine every label is salivating at the notion of picking these girls up.
