I’m still in shock that Girls is no longer a band. The damage done by that sudden announcement is letting up a bit as former frontman Christopher Owens is back. He has announced that he is officially going solo, and will release his debut album Lysandre through Fat Possum on January 15.

Lysandre was recorded at Hobby Shop Studios, Los Angeles. On his newly minted website is a description of the album:

Named for a girl he met whilst in France for a festival performance, Lysandre – written, recorded and sequenced as a complete narrative – was inspired by the events of Girls’ first ever tour in the summer of 2008. Owens describes the record as: “A coming of age story, a road trip story, a love story.”

Below you can stream the first two tracks from the album, “Lysandre’s Theme” and “Here We Go”, which ultimately flow into one enough, creating a stirring opening that sounds damn good. It may not have the Girls name, but it certainly has the same quality of song-writing.
