Jessie Ware’s American live debut came tonight at The Box, an intimate venue that housed maybe 100-150 people. Her debut album Devotion is an all around stunner that I still cannot get enough of. I was excited to what kind of power that she could bring live firsthand.

With no opener and just herself and her 3-piece live band, Jessie Ware wasted no time kicking things into full gear. With a beautiful light show providing her with a heavenly backdrop, she brought out all the stops. Her voice seized to amaze me, keeping all the power and grace that you would come to expect. The funky electronic r&b prowess of tracks such as “100%”, “Running”, “Wildest Moments”, and “Devotion” was stunning and a thing of magic.

Ware wasn’t shy, and was very sweet and enamored by the response that the NYC crowd gave her. She was very funny and had no problem interacting and laughing along with the crowd. She has all the makings of a star, without the ego and the hubris. She is a natural born star as shown by her powerful album, and her ability to transcend it all on the stage.

Jessie Ware is an immense talent. We will most likely see her rapid ascent in 2013, and after witnessing her likeable live show, I am rooting  for her, hard.
