The Horrors - Luminous

I’m excited to share that The Horrors have announced that their new album is titled Luminous. That’s the album art posted above.

The album will be released via XL Recordings on May 5, and first single will be released later tonight on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show. In speaking with frontman Faris Badwan, NME discovered the album title’s meaning:

It’s a powerful image: giving off light and releasing energy. It sums up a lot of the ways we make music. One thing that’s always been central to the band is that we’ve kept the same level of intensity since the beginning.

He also touched on the sound of the new album:

This is the album I’ve been most excited about releasing. I think it would be misleading to say it’s got more guitars or more synths, because half the time the guitars sound like synths anyway. Is it fair to say there’s more of everything.

It’s quite amazing how far The Horrors have come. They, along with Arctic Monkeys and Foals, ended up being the only three NME-buzz bands that truly prospered. In some ways, The Horrors exceeded expectations, considering that their debut was a more frantic horror-punk album. Since then, they’ve released two shoegazy electronic-influenced records that are stunning in many ways.

Best of all, I think Luminous has a shot of being their best yet.

We shall see later tonight when we get to hear “I See You.” Stay tuned for that later on.
