Kurt Vile and his backing band the Violators played a warming set on Friday that was every bit as laid back as you’d come to expect from the folk-friendly Vile.

I heard some complaints from people who were bored by Vile saying that he didn’t quite bring it live, but I disagree. Vile set the mood in the hazy, day-dreamy sort of way that he graces us with on a consistent basis on his records. Opening with the lengthy “Walkin On A Pretty Day”, Vile hit me with a peaceful tranquility that was more than appropriate for the sunny weather than hung above our heads. This carried over on the calming ‘Jesus Forever” and the appropriately titled “On Tour.”

With so many genres getting attention over the weekend, I had no problem soaking in a chill folk set from Vile.

Setlist:

1. Wakin on a Pretty Day
2. Jesus Fever
3. On Tour
4. Monkey
5. Girl Called Alex
6. Goldtone
7. New?
8. Hunchback
9. Freak Train
