Last week saw Mac DeMarco play alongside Charles Bradley and Benjamin Booker at a free House Of Vans show. The show itself sold out instantly, to the surprise of no one. I was only able to catch DeMarco and Booker, sadly missing out on Bradley’s performance.

New Orleans artists Benjamin Booker combines punk with added bluesy guitar influences that allow him to sound distinctive. He will be releasing his debut album (self-titled) on August 19 via ATO Records. Based on what I heard, it’s one that you may want to check out.

By now I’ve learned that Mac DeMarco won’t let me down. He treated his 2nd billing as a headlining spot, acting as if the night was his. The crowd to be just as much there for him as Bradley, and it showed. Mac fed off the enthusiasm of the crowd, delivering a typically sharp and goofy set that was a blast. With the release and acclaim of his new album Salad Days, its no surprise that his star is on the rise. Seeing him deliver countless fun live performances, I’m going to guess that the crowds will only get bigger and bigger. His success is well deserved. He will actually be playing another free show next month as a part of the 4Knots Festival at South Street Seaport. See you there.
